Here you are at a taper friendly show with your mic stand and you think
everything is all cool.
Even though you're allowed to tape the show,heres what happens;
"Hey man,can you sell me a bootleg?"
"Hey man, does the band really allow you to do that?"
"does those things sound any good?"
Watch out for that drunk,He's gonna fall on your mic stand!!! OOOpS!!!
Crash!!!
Other concert goers:Hey,that stand is in my way, can't you lower that
thing?
Or maybe some buffoon thinks its funny to get real close and yell
something in your mic.(like penis)
You look at all your gear and think,Damn,I have to go to the bathroom.
You wish you were down front but the venue insists you stay in the back.
I'll stick with stealth taping at any taper freindly show.

Hi all. I did a search on the site, and came up empty. Does anyone know whether Ben Folds openly allows
his solo shows to be taped? He's coming to St. Louis next week, and i'd rather not stealth if I don't have to. I even
tyried emailing his site and a fan site with no replys either way.
Thanks.

I know how stupid this sounds but Frank closed up shop early today, think he
went to Hornings. I'm looking for Sony's or Maxell's, nothing fancy. I'll
gladly pay for them & throw in a couple shows for your trouble. I live on
91st & E. Burnside & will gladly meet you wherever is convenient if you can
help me out. I apologize for such a pathetic post but......my name is

Subject: hoping for a kind soul to help me with my Sony 7-pin dilemma...
Date: Fri, 14 Jun 2002 22:11:18 -0700 (PDT)
Hey everyone! So, I recently purchased a 7-pin cable
from a person on this list for a good price ($100),
and realized when I got it that it is the orange
'dead' cable that only has an input. What I really
need is a modified one that has both input and output
so I can transfer the DATs once I've got them
recorded.
Unfortunately, I've sunk way more $$ into getting the
D8 and cables etc. than I can afford, so, I'm hoping
that some KIND SOUL might help me with a trade for a
7-pin digi-I/O cable...
I'm planning on taping a TON of stuff (around 35-40
total hours) at bonnaroo, and here is what i'm hoping
to offer...
I will give my:
1. Brand new 7-pin orange input cable
2. Brand new gold digital signal splitter
3. FIRST DIBS on CDs (audio or shn) for any and all
nice copies of shows that I tape at b'roo
4. Any combination of the above and shows from my
music list at http://db.etree.org/Jerimiah33
and (just so it is clear) I am looking for:
1. A Sony 7-pin digi-I/O cable (with both input and
output)...just so you know, I'm NOT looking for
another orange head cable, one of the cheaper non-sony
7-pin cables, or a cable that is not in very good to
excellent condition.
I would accept either an original factory Sony 7-pin,
or one of the modified orange head cables with both
input and output.
Thanks to anyone who can help me out with this. If I
can't find a way to get a digital output from my D8,
I'll come back from bonnaroo with 20+ DATs that I can
sit around and look at.
Again, thanks
mike

I have little experience with the Nak, line of
microphones. So I will ask the experts! I noticed alot of
you use them, I have just recently purchased a few, and
I am waiting for there arrival. I am a location soundguy,
(not a stealth recorder) although I would like to! I need
to know the differences between the CM 100 & the CM
300? Is there any? I realise many of you have recorded
concerts, but has anyone used them on dialogue? If so
what are they like? Anything I should know? Does
anyone know where to get the CP-4 (shotgun)cap, or
other attachments, (other than ebay)?
I appreciate all your comments/inputs!

Thanks again...
******* REPOST from 6/7/02 *******
I have 2 floor tickets (very close!!!) for the
upcoming NEARFest in Trenton, NJ on June 29-30.
Featured acts include Steve Hackett, Nektar, Caravan,
Echolyn, Enchant, just to name a few. I wish so much
that I was able to attend, but because of financial
and time constraints out of my control, unfortunately
I will have to part with both my tix.
I wanted to put these tix up on this forum in order to
find somebody who would be ready, willing, and able to
record AS MANY BANDS AS POSSIBLE!!!! (which I would've
done otherwise). Especially the ones I mentioned
above.
I will sell these at only FACE VALUE + the $5
processing fee, which comes out to a total of $179.
No more, no less. Actually, FORGET the $5 - make it
straight face at $174.
All I ask is that whomever takes them off my hands be
able to supply me with B&P for several of these bands.
Please email me privately regarding this matter. It
is ESSENTIAL that somebody out there get these
bands!!!! Tell me your recording setup in your
email.
Peace :)

Actually that policy is a little dumb. Lets assume there is a tapers
section. That section is a very small portion of the venue, probably less
than one percent of the total area. Asking that one percent be set aside as
a quiet zone is not too much to ask for. The taper are there to enjoy the
show too, then and later.
I have given many the evil eye. Many times I try to use psychology on them.
Stand very close to them and get into their space. Breath on their neck.
Bump their feet. Some are impervious to this, 98 percent of the time it
works.

I agree with the old Phish taping policy (just my opinion) People are there
to enjoy the show and tapers do not have the right to ask people to shut up.

Date: Sat, 15 Jun 2002 13:18:35 -0700
I have an Otari DTR-8S pro deck for sale. This is a pro deck that is
very similar to the Fostex D-5 and the Tascam DA-20 MkII, but it's
actually better than either of those two both in terms of construction
and features. Absolutely no SCMS, balanced I/O, AES/EBU inputs (but
they work perfectly fine with D8's version of S/PDIF), etc. Two nice
features that neither the D-5 nor the DA-20 have are: (1) a head hours
display and (2) "character pack", which allows you to write up to 60
characters at each Start ID. The latter is great for adding song
titles/info and then watching it scroll on the display when you get to
that track.
The unit is in excellent cosmetic and working condition, was very
lightly used, and comes with the original manual, remote control, rack
mounting brackets, and even the original box. I'll also throw in a
pair of XLR --> RCA cables that will allow you to connect it to an amp
that doesn't have XLR inputs.
I'm asking $400 + shipping for the whole thing, but I'll entertain
other offers.
Please reply directly to me, not to the mailing list.

Subject: FS: Sony WMD-DT1 ($260 OBO)
Date: Sat, 15 Jun 2002 13:20:09 -0700
I'm selling my Sony WMD-DT1 DAT player. For those who are not
familiar with this unit, it's a TINY (not much larger than the size of
a single DAT tape) DAT player. It does not have record capability or
a digital output, so this is not the deck that you'd want to take to a
show or to use for cloning, but this is exactly the kind of deck you'd
want to take jogging or to listen to your tapes in the office or in
the car.
The deck has very few hours on it (I'm guessing about 20) and is in
excellent condition. It comes with the original wired remote with the
proprietary plug and headphones, leather case, and, of course, the
original manual. I'll also throw in an AC adapter (this is a
non-standard adapter that cost an extra $35 back when I bought the
deck).
I'm asking $260 + shipping or best offer.
Please reply directly to me, not to the mailing list.
