hi,
just got back from seeing leon russell and edgar winter. what a show!
leon started off a bit slow, then got cooking. edgar came out and played sax
with him, very sweet. then winter and his band did their thing, and they
were hot. i havent listened to the tape yet, but i expect it will sound
very nice. the sound mix for leon wasnt as nice as it coulld have been, the
winter mix was great. i get the feeling every time that its a common
practice for an opener to get a crappy mix, as to not upstage the headliner.
any truth to this?
ps the opener-opener was the king norris band( fred norris from the
howard stern show) . they did a few bar band covers.
please see my music trading page: New URL

being its AOL, its not always up. try it a few times, or ask me for a

Off topic, but since many here do transfer to CD, this site has some
interesting information:
http://www.yamahamultimedia.com/
And many here may be interested that in touting the new technology,
they are admitting that the earlier burners may not have been all
they were supposed to be!

Subject: Porcupine Tree coming...
Date: Sat, 22 Jun 2002 00:18:33 -0400
Prog fans and tapers get ready...Porcupine Tree has announced a few shows
next month in the US that should not be missed if you are even remotely into
progressive or art rock type music. The dates are listed below. Also of
particular note is that PT will be playing tracks for the first time from
the new album "In Absentia" due out next fall, and will be featuring Tampa's
very own John Wesley on second guitar/vocals...he has toured extensively
with Fish for the past 3 tours. http://www.john-wesley.com/
(Taxiboy...check this guy out! and send me a tape!).
I think most of the shows are covered and PT is cool with taping, though
stands are generally frowned upon. So take your gear and contact the band
before-hand regarding stands and such...sometimes they let em in.
Here is the PT info:
www.porcupinetree.com
SUMMER PT SHOWS
Porcupine Tree will be undertaking their first live shows for a year,
starting in the USA at the end of July. Their new album "In Absentia" will
be issued by Lava/Atlantic in September, but these early dates will be an
opportunity for the band to preview some new material, as well as
introducing new drummer Gavin Harrison. In addition (and for the first time
in the USA) the band will be bringing the Fruit Salad light show with them
on all of these dates.
So far confirmed are :
July 22, Middle East, Boston
July 24, Bowery Ballroom, NYC
July 26, Theater of the Living Arts, Philadelphia
August 1, House of Blues, Los Angeles
August 2, Slims, San Francisco
Further dates will be announced on the porcupinetree.com website shortly.
*******************************
If you can tape, get in touch as we are trying to get all the shows covered.
Thanks!!

I noticed on mine that if I leave the switch on 48kHz, it will show a 48
signal until the deck locks on to the 44.1 that my A>D puts out. At
that time it shifts to 44.1 on the display. I can't explain why, but
I'm sure there isn't anything wrong, unless it always reads 44.1 even
with the 48k rate source.
Take it easy,
Rob

<snip>
if you ran a 24bit stream into a DAT, it would
record at 24bits, unless you ran an analog connection in. when you say
"16-bit gear", you are reffereing to the internal A/D converter. but you
aren't using the DAT's internal A/D. you are running digital in at 24bits.
</snip>
wrong.
If you send a 24-bit digital signal into a DAT deck, then the deck would
truncate bits and record at whatever its A/D is capable of (16 bit for a
d7/8,
bit a D100 and M1 will take 20 of the bits and reduce the word length to the
16-bit DAT standard much more gracefully than a d7/8 truncating 8-bits.)
wrong
I tried this with a pcm-m1 plugged into a midiman DUO that was out putting
24/48 and I got a copy prohibit! I had never seen that on an M1 before...

I thought i'd sent this message the other day. at any rate here it is again.
John does indeed allow taping at his shows, as does the band that will play right before him on tour this
summer: Guster. I'll be 5th row for the St. Louis show. If anyone happens to catch a Guster/John Mayer show, please
tape them both. I have quite a few Guster shows, including a couple masters to trade, plus a John master as well.

This is a very talented and proficient Bluegrass and
String band. They have been making their way across
the country from California. They've got two albums
up,
one of which was a featured article in "Recording"
magazine a few months ago.
I would say they bring their very own unique spin on
the styles that made String Cheese Incident, Jorma,
Yonder Mountain String Band, Seldom Scene, Peter
Rowan,
Vassar Clemens, Bela Fleck, NGR, Sam Bush, etc.
popular.
Worth a listen, bring your deck !
