I am a semi-frequent concert goer to DTE Energy Music Theatre in Clarkston, MI and have recently found out a way to get almost free admission to various shows just by picking up complimentary ticket vouchers off the ground by the gates. I have interperlated what concerts are going to be "compementary" at DTE for this summer. I will not say how I found out (that is my secret) but the following shows are definately compementary. I went to a few May - June shows to see if I was correct before posting and I was. Here is an excelent oppertunity for the taper or filmer to hone their skills or for a family to go to a big venue concert really cheap. This is no scam. Here is the low down. DTE gives out complimentary passes for a variety of shows during the concert season and some of those who get them bring their extras to the venue and leave them on the ground or on top of the garbage cans for other to take. You can literally bring a group of people to a show and get in for almost nothing. Here is what you do. Below is a list of concerts where you will be able to get in for less than the cost of gas to get there. Pick the ones you want to see and show up at the venue about 30 min before the show is scheduled to start and wait by the gates. In about 10-15 min the vouchers will begin to accumulate on the ground. Pick one up, go to the ticket booth, pay your $3 for lawn (or upgrade to Pavillion for $15) and you are in. No joke. Also, when inside DTE be sure to sign up for the My Pal program. It is affliated with the www.palacenet.com site and you get free coupons for consession stand discounts and vouchers for free shows. This is free and all you have to do is swipe your card at the Kiosk every time you go to DTE, The Palace, or Meadowbrook. These complimentary ticket vouchers are slightly larger than the size of a regular ticket. Here is a scan of the voucher for the DTE season opener show, Eddie Money. http://www.giant-squid-audio-lab.com/ebay/eddie_money2002-05-24b.jpg Whenever I upgraded my voucher to pavillion I got anywhere from 6 to 11th row. For the "70s Soul Jam" show, for example, I was offered much closer but since I was going to record I asked for a seat further back in "sweet spot" row H, center stage. Here is a list of the rest that I know about. All are definatly complimentary shows. Dates with "(maybe)" after them may or may not be. JULY 2 B-52s 4 George Thorogood and the Destroyers / Little Feet (maybe) 7 Jefferson Starship / Ray Manzarek / Vanilla Fudge (maybe) 9 John Mellen Camp (maybe) 10 "A Walk Down Abbey Road" with Alan Parsons, Chrisotpher Cross, Mark Farner, and Jack Bruce 14 Clay Walker 16 Blondie (maybe) 17 Berlin, The Fixx, The Outfield (maybe) 19 Foreigner 31 Doobie Brothers August 4 Huey Lewis and the News (saw them "complimentary" last year) 14 Creedence Clearwater Revisited 26 Daryl Hall & John Oats / Tod Rundgren 28 Eddie Money / Loverboy / Survivor (Maybe) September 2 America / Kansas 14 The Righteous Brothers (Maybe) last scheduled show of the season. There may be more than this but the above is all that I know about for now. Security is sparce at these shows. A few under the pavillion but mostly ushers showing people to their seats. Nonexistant in the Lawn section. Please do not post this information on any website or on the Usenet. The management may notice that people are finding out about this big loophole on teh Net and decide to close it. Don't ruin this!! I am very familiar with DTE. If you have any questions about sweet spots or general venue taper / filmer related questions just drop me an email. Also, I will not be able to make it to most of the shows listed. Drop me a line if you are willing to spining me a copy of your masters. :) Have a nice day, :) Darren Nemeth dnemeth01@sprynet.com Owner of "Giant Squid Audio Lab" - Specialists in durable, high fidelity Binaural / Stereo and Mono miniature microphones for discriminating DAT and Mini Disc recording enthusiasts. http://www.giant-squid-audio-lab.com/ ------------------------------ From: Matthew DeNardo Subject: AKG c451b's? Date: Sat, 29 Jun 2002 10:40:26 -0700 (PDT) Hi all, Is anyone familiar with the AKG c451b mics? I've been looking around at a number of different mics, and have found a really good deal for these. However, I don't know anyone with a pair. I plan on mostly using them for audience taping in small to medium venues with an Apogee Mini-Me whenever that finally arrives. If not these mics, please suggest others in the same price range (looking around $750/pair). Date: Sat, 29 Jun 2002 14:36:55 -0400 I will be using "MASSIVE" wind screens on my mics for the first time this summer. I bought a pair of high end shields as the "standard" ones dont really work that well. I also have purchased a small umbrella in case it rains. Elecronics perform better when cool. Does this hold true for mics? As long as I have this umbrella, should I consider using it to keep the huge black windscreens from baking my mics in the 85 degree sun? Thanks Winnie YEAH!! I did not see them again until the "Roll Your Bones" Tour in Cincinnati, Ohio. I thought it would be anti-climatic, but I let my buddy Phil talk me into it....Before the show, some Rush fans walked around the main floor of the arena with a GIANT banner that said, "Rush fans are better than Deadheads". My buddy Phil and I looked at each other and laughed alot, since we really like both bands and found such a display completely ridiculous. Needless to say, the Roll Your Bones show could not touch the '76 show, just like most of the post "Signals" Rush can't touch any of their predecessors. I hate that medley crap! Hell, play one song from 2112, not part of 4 other killer songs that don't even equal one good song. It was sickening to hear kids say, "Geddy Lee is the best bassist" in 1980 after Moving Pictures came out. Everybody and their brother was on the Rush bandwagon after never hearing of them before. Just because all the radio stations played the hell out of "Tom Sawyer". Blah, blah, blah!! "OH, they are so great!" and on and on.... If they are so great and their fans are better than Deadheads, then why can't they vary their setlist? Sure, not every Dead show was of the Warlocks performance quality. But at least the Dead got out there and tried to give their fans something DIFFERENT and special every night. That's what kept us coming back time and time again and not just doing one show. They did not buy into that corporate crap of - We have a new album out so we have to go promote it for the record company. Let's play our "hit single" off the new record and a few other new songs and then all our hits from over the years. That's what our fans want to hear.... What a load!! How about this for a Rush setlist: Anthem Red Barchetta Natural Science Finding My Way 2112 (complete) Distant Early Warning Bastille Day Stick It Out The Trees Subdivisions Closer To The Heart Jacob's Ladder Working Man E: Closer To The Heart E2: Something For Nothing And then the next night - play something completely different. They have a very large repertoire to draw from. Why keep dropping the bucket to the same spot every time? The times are changing. If ticket prices are going to keep going up and up, bands need to get out of this corporate cookie-cutter mold and give the people what they deserve. The recording industry is being forced to change. People are finally figuring out that they have been getting ripped off. And bands that play the same setlist every night are selling themselves and their fans short. Some might even say, they are ripping their fans off..... I guess that I see the point of setlists being spoiled for folks that like bands who lack imagination and creativity in their live performances. But do we really need a lengthy explanation for why it's spoiled? No - I am not trying to beat anybody for "best rant " ) But I will say that this Summer's Trey Anastasio Band's performances were much more entertaining than most of the Phish shows that I saw during 1999 - 2000... Except for Big Cypress of course ") Some of these bands that play the same setlist every night say that they "improvise" from night to night. It's been my experience that Trey is the only performer that can repeat a song from one night to another and make it something completely different and refreshing over and over again. Thanks a lot for any help. actually, with that card, all paths are effectively analog transfers, since it resamples all inputs. If you insist on using that soundcard,I wouldnt waste your money on a digital cable, just go line out of the d7 make sure you clearly note the transfer path and soundcard used, as a lot of hardcore tapers would be likely to avoid cd's that were transferred through such a unit.
