From: "Killion, Jeff" <jkillion@Urban-Engineering.com> Subject: sound card advice Date: Mon, 1 Jul 2002 13:04:15 -0400 I have the same question, and was about to ask it here. Will the Zoltrix Nightengale do the job? I'll be using my DA-P1 and Windows ME. I'm really just looking to go as cheap as possible right now and get something that will be sufficient enough to use (instead of transferring to disc with my Marantz, and then using EAC before I shn something). -jeff From: "Bob Haas" <rhaas@srcginc.com Subject: sound card advice Date: Sun, 30 Jun 2002 19:22:41 -0400 I've been out of the loop for a few months, so I'd like some advice regarding the current choices available for digital I/O sound cards. Coaxial I/O, bit-for-bit exact transfers, and solid compatibility with Windows 2000 and/or Linux are my requirements (I have used a ZA2 for the past few years that only records reliably under DOS, and I'm determined to move on from that setup). Optical I/O, optional real-time resampling, and MIDI capabilities would also be nice but are not a necessity. As far as price goes, I'd like to stay below $200. From the very limited research that I've done, it looks like the M-Audio Audiophile 2496 and Delta DiO 2496 are worth considering. I'm a little hesitant on the Zoltrix products, unless somebody can REALLY convince me that it is possible to obtain a reliable digital I/O card for $30. Finally, I will use the card with PCM-M1 and DA-20MKII decks, so I'll need to avoid any devices that have been known to act strangely with these particular machines. Thanks! Bob Haas
From: John Brinkley <johnbrinkley@yahoo.com> Subject: Houston Arrowfest/for trade Date: Mon, 1 Jul 2002 10:59:08 -0700 (PDT) Despite the rain, I was able to get some nice recordings of this all day Jam at the Woodlands. Due to some no shows, I also had a nice, central seat for all of the tapings. DPA4060's>D100 1.Joe Banamassa-25 minutes-missed the first two songs. This guy is gonna be a major player in the near future.... 2.Kansas-51 minutes-nice performance VS. last year's shows I saw. Steve Walsh was really doing well with the upper range stuff. Great set! 3.Cheap Trick- great setlist for longtime fans/about 60 minutes. 4. Night Ranger-45 minute set 5. Foreigner- <80 minute set- always open to quality trades! From: Schwigiddy <gear4sale4u@yahoo.com> Subject: The Right Umbrella for your stand + Bonnaroo BnP Date: Mon, 1 Jul 2002 11:58:07 -0700 (PDT) i used an umbrella from a childerns beach chair... the chair is about $10 , i found mine in an HEB in Texas...... try going to a childrens store, or wal-mart, look in children's section for umbrellas, or just ask where there would be something like this....... then just tape it to the stand......also never have heard of any problems with direct sunlight on the mics ...unless they get over like 110degree's you should be fine.....i would worry more about the deck & the pre -amp ..... and yes it brings up issues at a show if you are using an umbrella at a show when it's not raining..... the wind could lift your stand, it could make excess niose that would not normally be there, and get in the way of concert goers..... i hope this helps....... BWT : Phil 6.23.02 Bonnaroo FOB Scheops rig i'll take 3 shn/wav you choose..... ALSO LOOKING TO DO ANY BONNAROO TRADES Have plenty of other shows to trade including a lot from Jazz fest.. From: "Bas Ruesink" <basruesink@hotmail.com> Subject: CAUGHT: BUSH @ Podium, Hardenberg, Holland Date: Mon, 01 Jul 2002 23:03:37 +0200 for those intrested. Me and a fellow taper got caught tonight at the BUSH concert in Hardenberg (Podium venue). The venue had metaldetectors, but we both manage to sneak stuff in anyway. We found a spot upstairs right in front of the right speaker and hang our mics a bit downstair. we used some tape to tigh them to the balcony. During the supportact (not recorded, crap) i already had a strange feeling security was watching the tiny little wires and mics (OKMII). then i noticed two guys on the floor talking and pointing our direction. They whispered something in their microphone. Only two minutes later a third securityguy shows up next to me with a flashlight. He does not see the mics. He asks my friend: ,,Can i see your bag" (no recordingstuff in there, those were hidden just on the wood from the balcony (where you can put drinks). Our jackets were lying just on top of them. This guy search the bag and does not find anything. He leaves. One of the two security guys on the floor makes his way up. There they were: two guys. The grab our stuff and told us we get it bakc after the show. The way the handled the equipment was not nice, so we decided to go after it directly. they old us to sit down, in some office. Like we were criminals. The wanted names, and they treated us the would pass it on to MOJO (big organisation that arrange concerts in Holland). We did not give names. I noticed they had me on their pc (from video). anyway, long discussion...bottemline: They took our tapes and we were throw out! I did ask some question, here are the answers: Policy of BUSH?: ,,No camera, no video, no audio" Policy of venue (The Podium, Hardenberg, Holland): "If the band allows it we are fine with it". Dont go and tape there unless you have permission from the band, only advice i can give. Or..stealth VERY GOOD. but remember, metaldetectors. bas _________________________________________________________________ Chat with friends online, try MSN Messenger: http://messenger.msn.com

From: "DRider" <Hawkwind@attbi.com> Subject: R-500 Trouble Shooting Date: Mon, 1 Jul 2002 19:03:22 -0400 This may or may not be the R-500 acting up..... I was just cloning a master that has no cuts in it. My playback deck is an R-300. The R-500 made a "clicking" noise like it does at the end or beginning of a tape or when it detects a change in program. This occurred during music like there was a micro cut in music. I played the master tape back on the R-500 and it plays fine w/ no clicking. Any ideas?? Thanx! D
From: will.stiefel@autodesk.com Subject: umbrella Date: Mon, 1 Jul 2002 16:21:06 -0700 One thing to consider is that umbrellas and wind don't mix. especially at the end of a 10-ft pole. If you're using fat windscreens I assume it would be windy- and in that case maybe the wind will cool them off a bit? for keeping your equipment from baking in the sun how about a thick white terry towel?

From: Jason Neely <bondibox@bellsouth.net> Subject: Re: Taping policy of White Stripes, Tool, Santana & Weezer?? Reply-To: bondibox@bellsouth.net Date: Tue, 02 Jul 2002 06:52:53 -0400 > All four of these bands are coming to the Twin Cities in the next few weeks > and I'm wondering if anyone knows about their current taping policies? Can I > bring a stand, or will I need to stealth? Any contact info for taping these > bands would be great. Thanks... > > Steve > > http://www.geocities.com/stejampzy/cdlist.htm AFAIK, Santana does not openly allow taping on his tours. I think this has more to do with his label than with his own views. In 1986, while at a Santana show @ pier 96 in NYC, I met a man from the Netherlands who was taping with a handheld walkman w/ condenser mic. He sent me the tape, and his tape list - it turns out he was the president of the international Santana fan club, and he had a lot of recordings on his list ... several of which were obviously band sanctioned. I think this is a good picture of the situation. Since Santana's playing with Rusted Root, I thought the taping policy might open up some. Last tour, the security at Riverbend was very observant in the front rows. and I think stealth would have been the only way to go. I'm planning on stealth recording when I see Carlos this summer (Cuyahoga & Indianapolis) -jas
