hi! did anyone out there tape rush @ nissan pavilion 7/9/02? i
used CSC>M1 and pulled an ok quality tape for set two... during
set one a storm front blew through the venue and wind noise is
quite a problem... i would prefer to circulate a decent quality
recording of set one, if one exists, instead of my wind burnt
tape... if any nova/dc-area tapers are reading and would like to
get in touch please email me, i just moved in from the midwest...

Greetings DAT-Heads,
I finally decided to upgrade my Audio Technica cardioid microphones for a
set of SKM140's. I also wanted to offer these mic's up to a newbie seeing
that we were all new to the Digital Audio world once.
Here is my package deal for a starter to the recording world.
2 - AT4041 Microphones
1 - 12 foot microphone stand
2 - Homegrown shockmounts
All for the low price of 225.00, Firm. The AT4041 were 320.00 new. I have
only used them a few times. They are a great entry level microphone. I can
supply a DAT or two of Phish taped with the AT's if you want to hear them.
Lastly, I have a QPS 32x24x12x CD Burner for sale. I am asking 50.00 firm
for this burner. I only used it a dozen times.
Thanks,
Stan

Hi,
I just got a kind of scary message from a taper friend in Belgium. It seems
that Belgian customs confiscated 3 packages(one being mine), about 20 cds
from this guy. They showed up at his house, claiming he's illegaly copying
cds, fined him 450 Euro. Now they're trying to take all his cd burning
equipment, and his collection. They've been monitoring his computer, website
& email, so all his contacts are now in the hands of the Belgian government.
The kick is this guy does soundboard only, and always gets permission. But
Customs isn't buying it. He wrote me for the last time saying not to write
him anymore and that my package now is in the hands of Belgian customs. Just
thought people should know.

I trade and use DATs because of my wife. When I ignore her and the kids

she tells me to take my fucking music and shove it up my ass. I can

One reason i can think of, is before there was CDR, there was DAT. Many
many tapes from the 60`s and earlier, were first transfered over to digital
on PCM or DAT tape. I`d hazard a guess that at least 75% of all that older
material (like the Grateful Dead) that circulates nowadays was first traded
around on digital tape.
One thing that`s nice about trading on digital tape, it`s all real time, so
you get to listen to it while you dub.
Plus the added length (2-3 hours) is great for dubbing complete shows, and
for recording radio broadcasts.

The rumor is that this is the last tour, because the singer will be
attending graduate school this fall. I'd love to get any and all of
these shows taped if possible. They allow taping(sbd, aud, vid) but it
wouldn't surpise me if they don't inform the venues. It's most likely
venue dependent. I have spoken with the singer on a couple of occasions
and sent him several shows I've either taped or traded for. He loves
getting copies of the shows. I'll be going to the Dallas(most likely)
and Austin shows myself. If you have a good rig, I'll gladly pay for

Interesting. It seems like most of this applies more to individual
miked instrument channels, though, so will take even more experimenting
to apply to stereo/audience mike placements.
For example, I wonder if anyone could help me with a starting point
for this situation: I got a patch for a recent Los Lobos/Quetzal show,
for which I'm grateful, but it was from a distant pair of Nak 100 or 300
shotguns (I can't remember which). The frequency response sounds
somewhere between that of an AM radio and a telephone. Do people
usually just trade these as-is? Or are there some common EQ tricks for
shotguns?
Thanks...
