Hi all,
Mike Keneally is touring Europe and playing with a wide and weird
variety of other musicians. Check out www.keneally.com for the
details, but here's one date coming up fast:

North Sea Jazz Concert Replay
Approx. Noon- 1 p.m.

Any taping - broadcast or live in person - would be *greatly*
appreciated by the burgeoning Keneally fan community - and Mike
himself is totally taper-friendly (I've gotten the occasional
SBD patch and many happy front-row AUD recordings of the man).
Email me if you're able to get any of the shows listed on keneally.com.

Hello,
it looks like someone made a real soundcard with front panel I/O.
here is a link:
http://www.viaarena.com/?PageID=136
does anyone know if this card is good for DAT transfers (i/e no
unwanted resampling). if so, this card looks like a dream come
true for DAT-heads.

heads up for any of you guys that get MTV2:
on 7/19 (next friday), at 8:30PM/7:30 central, they'll
be broadcasting a 1/2hr of the Troubadour show from
last tour (the one i was NOT lucky enough to get
into), where dave grohl played drums for the whole
thing, mark lanegan was a special guest, and i think
they had some other special guests too (i don't
remember)...it should be worth watching, anyways. if
you get the channel, it's free, after all :)
i don't get M2, however. so, if anyone can pull a
DAT, or a really nice video, or better yet, a DVD of
the broadcast, please get in touch w/ me. i have tons
to trade along these lines.
take care.
(and thanks for the b/w.)

I've been catching many of the Sessions at W54th on the Trio
network (DirecTV channel 315), and have been trying to find some
date info. But the Sessions original website is down. Does
anyone know of another site which has info on the Sessions
shows?
And does anyone know (from their lists) the dates on the Bela
Fleck and MMW shows, and if these dates are performance or
broadcast dates.
thank you!

The consumer CD recorder and Hard Drive recorder from Yahama ( model
CDR-HD1000 )
Was selling at $1k bucks is now $500. and is being closed out.
Good Guys chain was selling it for $450. on sale a couple weeks back.
The quality of the A/D is excellent 24bit.
Both coax and optical in/out.
Manual record levels for both analog and digital.
Bit perfect copies between CDR and HDD.
Audio CDR cloning / duping at higher speed.
You can record to / from either drives.
This is an amazing unit.
It has a 20gig HDD but that's plenty to edit and then transfer back to DAT
or CDR.
But with the HDD you can go in and insert track marks and then burn your
CDR or out to DAT.
So from vinyl or analog tapes this is wonderful.
Like Minidisc but no compression.
It does have SCMS but that's not an issue with gear that can ignore it later.
It also only uses consumer audio blanks.
Yamaha has a new model due in the Fall with a 40 gig Hard Drive but otherwise
it's nearly identical.
I don't believe Best Buy or Circuit City sell the unit.
Ultimate Electronics does sell them.
Yamaha's website has the details.
Anyway, thought I'd share the information list members.

| Date: Fri, 12 Jul 2002 19:36:09 -0400
|
| I've been speaking with people using the Nomad 3 at Phil & Friends shows.
| They say they have experienced NO dropouts after recording several shows.
So
| what's the story? Do we believe the extensive review that has been
| referenced here at DATheads several times... or the many users at shows??
| People who have direct experience... please chime in. While the Nomad 3
has
| some issues... no record levels, 44.1khz, 16bit, if it does not drop
| samples... then it is an alternative, or companion to DAT recording. Many
| DATheads have expressed their desire to get a Nomad 3 until the review
came
| out and said it dropped samples. Indeed... I had one on order until I read
| the test results. (sorry... I dont remember the link to the guy who did
the
| extensive tests, and currently.. I cant search DATheads... it's down or
| something)
| So... please... if other people have Nomad 3 experience using it for live
| recording as a DAT alternative... please let us know what your experience
| has been.
Hey, This may be an option for me aswell... It's fairly cheap comparing to a
D100, $399.99 at amazone.com (I did not really compare prices yet, over here
in the netherlands the cheapest I found was ?466), and it IS actually able
to record at 48kHz! I don't know about the dropouts, I'm curious to that
aswell...
How would this device go with for example a Zefiro Inbox? Different question
maybe, but if I use the digital in, how can I change the levels? Would that
be possible with a pre-amp? What are the options if the device itself
doesn't have proper level control? It would make the set-up not really
stealthable I guess, which could be a problem (for me at least)
Ultimately my setup would look like this:
Nomad Jukebox III --- $399.99
Zefiro Inbox --- $310
Sonic Studios DSM-6S /M --- $450
any recommendations/comments? (pre-amps)
let me know!

I was in the 8th row center for Rush at Montage Mountain. You were about
two rows behind me with a great stealth setup (Sonic Studios?) including
curly hair and a dark green hat. I gave a card to your friend. Any chance
I could trade for your show?
For that guy (and any of the thousands of others who aren't that guy), I
have nice Rush masters from SPAC and Holmdel and copies of other early shows
en route. Please contact me if you're interested in trading some Vapor
Trails shows. (Please no B&P requests -- yet.) Thanks in advance.

Hello, I went to tape a show last night using my Sony M1 and after I loaded
up a tape, it now will not come out! I can't rewind, fast forward, record
and will not open. When I turn on the light and try to press some buttons,
the light will automatically go off after a few seconds. Any help is greatly

Subject: DMIC-20 battery setup for field recording
Date: Sat, 13 Jul 2002 17:43:08 -0400
I recently purchased a DMIC-20 and need a way to power it in the field. I
don't want to buy an Eco system or similar high cost rechargeable system. I
am wondering if its possible to build my own battery pack for it. I built
one for my D8 using parts from Radio Shack. Is this possible with the DMIC?
It requires 6V 500mA (stamped on the back). This is all greek to me. Any
help or a link is greatly appreciated. Also what kind of battery life can I
expect? I the battery pack would power the DMIC and phantom power a set of
AKG 480 mics.
As always thanks for the help. Dat-Heads kicks ass!

PS: I am also looking for a taper ticket to SCI @ Merriweather 7/18/02. I
would be happy to provide a cdr copy of the show in addition to the cost of
the ticket. My rig is AKG 480/ck61 > DMIC-20 > D8 > SBLive! > cd.
