this guy is a a little bit convincing, but then I read this statement :
>One of the reasons I dont trade on the net alot is
the amount of paranoid kooks, it seems the harder I look to trade for my
favorite bands, the crazier people get
I find it weird because I've been trading on the internet for 4 years
(which, is admittedly not that long) and I've never met any sort of "kook."
In fact, I've only been ripped off twice, and I've traded literally hundreds
of times. The one time I did a mass trade, and the quality wasn't up to par,
the guy offered to give me all my blanks back......I've found the internet
music trading community to be almost uniformly honest, cordial, and
generally concerned with other people's well-being. That's a WHOLE lot
better than you can say for the rest of the world. Granted tapers can be a
bit anal, but hey, if that's their worst trait - I can handle it.
Anyways, I thought it was a bit strange that this guy was using the
character traits of the taping/trading community as a diversion for the
claims made against him. I didn't hear him refute any of the substantial,
verbatim statments that have been posted recently.
that's it.

You've obviously missed a couple plain facts...
1. 'gens' are not a concern in the digi-domain, trade with some ethical
tapers rather than paying $$ for recordings and you might discover that.
2. tapers are some of the most sociable, kind, intelligent and, to respond
to your point, OUTGOING folks I've met. At a concert or in life in general.
I hope I speak for the majority of the list when I request you kindly crawl
back into your hole.

Thanks for forwarding the obit of Alan Lomax. I really didn't realize
the extent of his work. I am familiar with a fair amount of his work,
but not all that was discussed in the obit. I was given a copy of the
book "The Land Where Blues Began", and it was a combination of pure
excitement with the subject matter, combined with a tediousness of a
pure academic writing style. None the less, the book has more
information on Blues-Roots-Gospel than any other book I ever
encountered. It's sad to see another american music icon's demise. I'd
love to get that 100 CD Rounder Collection. I guess it would be like a
100 CD set of the Smithsonian Blues Collection.

haven't recently seen a good beginner-helper / unidecker post in a while,
so here goes...
I have come across some used data DATs that have been erased. I will put
anything you'd like from my 800hr DAT collection to tape in exchange for
some new blank DATs. No money changes hands and you get a good bunch of
DATs for trading. I started my first analog tape collection in the very
same way. You can choose as many DATs as you like. Also, if any tape has
a problem, I will copy it again and send it your way.

I get mine from Masterpiece A/V (http://www.masterpieceav.com) and
have always had good luck. Jamey has been a great help to me in the
past too on a number of other DAT related inquiries and equipment
purchases. I like their business practice. In the past, I've bought
tapes from American Digital, and from Cassette House and both companies
subsequently spammed me without my permission (is that redundant?).
Spam is one thing I will not tolerate.

It is likely a broken solder joint where the jack is soldered to the
board. I had a similar problem with my M-1. It was not the input jack,
but the input level control potentiometer. There was a cold solder
joint where the potentiometer was soldered to the its daughterboard. I
fixed it myself by heating the solder pad with my specially modified
soldering iron (the tip has been lathed down to a very fine point for
surface-mount work).
I can't recall how the input jack is mounted (whether it is on a
separate replaceable board like the volume control or not) but I would
think that if it is a broken solder joint, a reasonably competent
amateur with a soldering iron should be able to fix it. Just make sure
that it is a broken solder joint and not a foil trace separated from
the board. In the latter case, you are best off seeking a professional
repair. If it is on a separate daughter board (the more I think about
the insides of my M-1, the more I think this is NOT the case) then you
might want to see about ordering the whole part from Sony. If it is
a separate plug-in board, it will have a Sony part no. printed on it
somewhere.

Subject: More GP-ADC 20 > D8 Problems...
Date: Sun, 21 Jul 2002 00:58:32 EDT
Hey Everyone-
Thank you for all your help on my previous question about the ADC-20 > D8 problems. I got a ton of responses and some great help.
But here's my next problem. I went out and got the BNCmale>RCAfemale adapter. Before I go too much more indepth, here's my rig.
KM184's > MP2 > (ADC-20 if I can get it to work) > D8
So I tested it out last night to make sure everything was cool. I got everything set up. I got lights on the mp2, lights on the ADC-20, and then I hit record on the D8. I was getting a signal on the D8, but I was getting a "Copy Prohibit" message on the D8 and it wouldn't let me record.
I was thinking it could be a problem with my digital coax cable. I haven't done much research on active v. passive cabling, but would it cause the D8 to come up with that error code?
So I searched the Dat-Heads for a few hours without luck. I asked a few others and was told that there are two versions of the ADC-20. One that is SCMS infested and one that isn't. I got this from a radio station that was going under so I got it pretty cheap. I can't find info on the GP website about a two version type of system and can't get a response from them about it.
If this two version ADC-20 info is correct, then I've got a real problem. Can anyone else verify this?
So if my info is correct and there are two versions of the ADC-20, any ideas on how to get rid of the stupid SCMS error? I really don't want to take apart my ADC and add boards or cut wires or anything. Has anyone else ever had this problem and was able to fix it? Is there something I can add onto the chain that can take out the SCMS error and not cause gitter?
Thanks for all your help!
