Traders,
Last week a trader complained to me that the CD I sent her was
incredibly smashed and unrecognizeable. Oddly, I had sent this in a
hard plastic shell. The CD she described sounded a whole lot to me like
what happens when you put a CD in the microwave - spiderweb cracking of
the metallic layer.
The following link confirms my suspicions, that ALL mail is being
irradiated, not just mail headed for Gov't facilities
http://www.cnn.com/2002/US/07/21/white.house.anthrax/index.html
Has anyone else had media damaged in the mail this way?

The power failure in lower Manhatten on Saturday took down the server that
hosts etree.org, db.etree.org, and etreenews.org. Someone has to manually
go to the colo to restart the box... we expect to be back online this
morning. Sorry for any inconvenience... this is only the second outtage
of more than an hour in 4 years ;)

It would seem that Etree.org is down again.
It pings, but it won't display a webpage, nor my
trading list.
Most annoying is that I need the SHNAmp Plug-in and
everyone has links to it at etree, but no mirror. (Not
even CNET)
Is there a SHNAmp available for D/L somewhere else ?
Does anyone know what the deal is with etree ?
I know they are a volunteer organization and a great
resource, but are they being legally constrained by
the new digital music laws, or simply down again ?

For sale: A pair of matched Earthworks SR-71 mics (with windscreens) and
a pair of AT 8410a shockmounts... purchased used six months ago and ran at
about 10 shows, all indoors.
I purchaced SKM-184's about 4 months ago, and the Earthworks and have been
sitting in my bag as backup mics.
I paid $525 for just the SR-71's six months ago... looking to get $575 for
the mics and the shockmounts, but all offers considered.
Thanks!

Everyone can have their own definition or interpretation of what makes
an email SPAM. Perhaps Mr Hoxsie's definition would also include the
post-order email with the tracking number.
However, I must adimentily disagree with Mr Hoxsie. Getting an email
from a company you have done bisiness with, by my definition, does
not make it SPAM. Again, that is clearly up for individual interpretaion.
Our email list was not bought or sold. Another key definition of SPAM.
Your email was obtained, somehow, sold or whatever, and then you
get sent SPAM. That is what makes it SPAM. The whole unsolicited
nature. Your email obtained and sold. Our list is 100% generated by
people who have contacted US. Not the other way around. Therefore,
my definition, which I believe is mainstream, makes our email to our
database not SPAM. That fact alone disputes Mr Hoxsie's opinion.
However, he is absolutely entiled to his own idea of what is SPAM.
For the record, everytime we send out an email to our database we get
10-15 people asking to be removed. Almost all are because they want
it sent to a different account. We also get about 10-15 please add me
to your email list.
We aren't a fancy operation...we have no automated way to remove
an email address other than by hand. If we are guilty of something we
are guilty of not having an automated process. We are working on this.
We have in fact missed removals. Perhaps Mr Hoxsie's asked to
have his email removed and we dropped the ball. To err is human.
If that is the case then I would agree with Mr Hoxsie that we sent
him SPAM. However, when you look at all of this in context, we
have never, nor will we ever, send SPAM (other that the above
explained accidentally missed removal).
It is a pretty low blow to accuse a company of a practice that they
in fact do not engage. In a public forum no less. I personally will
make sure Mr Hoxsie's email address and account is permanently
deleted.
Best Regards-
Dan Haugh

Let me be the first to apologize if I am in err. I am going on memory
here from a couple of years back and not having any saved mail from that
far back I only have my (admittedly fallible) memory on which to go. It
may very well have been another company that I mistook for American
Digital.
If I order something from a company and a few weeks, or months later I
get an email saying "Hey, check out our great deal..." I consider that
spam (I didn't ask for it). I look very closely at the online ordering
forms and if there is a check-box for this sort of "opt-in" thing I make
sure it is unchecked.
If it is not your policy to send this type of email to your customers
then I apologize.

We need automation...badly. Asking to be removed and
then doing so by hand leaves to much room for error.
The opt in or out will be implemented with the addition
of an automated email database. That will be coming
shortly and hopefully eliminate any mistakes.
One last time for the record. We have NEVER bought
or sold any email list. Everyone on our list contact US.
Not the other way around. I freakin' hate SPAM with
a passion. It was a very tempting idea...especially in the
early years...to buy a 1 million email list. SPAM the
globe. Once you cross that line there is no going back.
I proud of the fact that we operate without junk mail.
In both mailboxes...on the street and on the PC.

Hi, never posted here but I'm guessing this is a longshot but I thought i'd
try anyway. Does anyone on here have ANY foo fighters shows on dat or even
cdr? I'm pretty new to dat and can't clone but if anyone would be willing
to do b+p or 2:1's I'd be very apprecative. I also would be willing to
trade 2-3 cdrs per dat. I'm basically looking for anything I can't find for
a band thats pretty big their shows are almost impossible to find. Old
shows, new shows whatever. Even if you can point me in the right direction
that would be cool. Anything will make me happy :)

At the Camden NJ Phil Lesh show July 20th, taping was allowed anywhere in
the venue. You could have been front row center and raised a stand. The
ushers were asking that the stands be kept about head-high; it was explained
to us that it did not have anything to do with whether folks behind you were
being obstructed - the rule is intended to keep the damage down when it gets
knocked over. :-)
There were 35 stands out on the lawn, and at least 20 more under the
roof. Most of those were FOB, center.
Not sure about the availability of taping tickets - they were not needed
in NJ.
If you plan to roll Robert Hunter, be prepared. He comes strolling out
onto stage already playing his first tune.

Hey all,
Real quick. Sorry for the length but thought you folks might want to
know. I set up a trade with Mr. Levy the night he put his first post
up and before I had a chance to get to the post office in the
morning, I saw the warning about him. I checked out the links posted
thought it a little fishy and wrote him asking if he had anything to
say about the warning that was posted about him.
This was his response:
You dont atttach any warning here, hey man alot of people get jealous because
I got a lot of stuff, a ton of stuff MORE stuff than the weeners on DAT-HEADS,
so I could give a fuk about what any of them say, I got tons of stuff Im
trading for
and people groveling everyday for my WHO stuff why DO I GIVE A RATS ASS
what some envious weenie on DAT-HEADs has to say about me, who is either
fat and stinky or skinny and stinky either way an anti-social stinky jerk
that has no
life outside of bootlegs, I HAVE A FANTASTIC life outside of bootlegs. My
advice is
trade ONLY with the fat/skinny, stinky, havent had a date in 15 years
DATHEADS
that post "warnings" about people, it may behoove you since you decided to
bring it
to my attention, hey keep trading with them you may finally get a date after
20 years
- Thinking You Foolish For Listening to Weeners
Bill
We'll believe it or not, after he responded to the digest defending
himself I was going to give him the benefit of the doubt and send him
the show on Saturday but the post office was closed. Well, for some
reason I was thinking about it this weekend, as if I don't have
enough on my mind right now and decided not to trade with him so I
wrote this letter this morning.
Bill,
Because datheads is solely responsible for the collection of
incredible music I have today, the fact I trade with the person who
recorded the First Union McCartney show and all the coincides that
have happened to me in the past few days (starting with your posting
for McCartney shows a few days ago) , I'm going to respectfully pass
on our trade. In no way do I want to compromise my relationship with
the people on datheads for a show, it's as simple as that. The show
will come around but not by me.
All the best
Dean
This was his response to my letter:
Fine with me several of your "respectful" buddies have offered me copies of
your
lousy First Union show, Im shipping out like 10 trades today, some of them
with other "respectful" DATHEADs and your just a lousy no good cocksucker as
you
will let the other people on the list do your work for you, trade with me and
then get it
from them, it doesnt make you any less "responsible" shithead, and we're
still talking
about illicit recordings here so I guess your a real upstanding citizen
anyway, your
trade was about as low as on list of priorities as it gets no loss here

sadly i haven't been trading at all in 2002 - brain has been too bruised.
but i am jonesin' for any soundboards of the 2002 tours of sam bush,
elvin bishop (particularly would love the NOJF w/ trombone shorty but i
doubt anybody has that in non-aud unless WWOZ broadcast it) or sonny
landreth
wouldn't mind a 2000/2001 of elvin either when he toured with little smokey.
2000/2001 would be ok for sonny too,
but 2002 only for sam.
lots to trade...
