Paul McCartney Presale Tickets! Paul McCartney has announced a new series of Fall concert dates, and SamGoody getAccess is offering presales on many of them. Unfortunately, McCartney's "Back in the U.S." tour is not stopping in every getAccess city, but we thought that you might still be interested in the chance to see one of the most influential pop personalities ever in concert. M embers have the chance to buy two tickets to any one McCartney concert. Presales start at 10 AM local time on Tuesday, July 23, for McCartney concerts in Chicago, Cleveland, Phoenix, Sacramento and San Jose. Presales will end at noon local time on Friday, July 27. In new few days, we will be announcing additional presales for concerts in Boston, Houston and New Orleans. Please check this page frequently to see when new presales have been announced. Additional McCartney concerts and presales may be announced at a future date. Remember, members can only buy two tickets to any one concert. (McCartney will be playing concerts on his Fall tour co-produced or not produced by Clear Channel. We won't offer presales on these concerts.) One is Section 2 Row W, dead ctr. The other is Sect 3 Row M, a few seats in off the center aisle. She is at Freezeout1@aol.com and she is looking for face but entertaining offers, especially if the buyer wants both tickets. Thanks, Dave BWT: Two B&P on 90m DAT for Neil Finn 7/19/02 Irving Plaza (AT933 hypercards>D100). DAT only. It's not bad, but not awesome; a little distant, a little chatty, but a great show!!! __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! From: Clancey <supton@erols.com> Subject: Why not Digital out CD>digital input>HD? Date: Mon, 22 Jul 2002 17:45:06 -0400 Hey, this is probably a really ignorant question, but I thought I would get the best input from the list... In SHN trading it is generally accepted that introducing an EAC step is to be avoided at almost any cost. Then I thought, why not play the audio CDR on my CD player and take the optical out and feed it through my U2A into Cool Edit and slice it down with good old CDWAV? Would this not be preferable to my ripping from CDR>HD via EAC? It seems like such an elegantly simple solution that I feel there must be some reason I can't think of that it isn't in practice. I have a lot of shows on CDR that I would love to SHN, but hesitate because I don't feel comfortable doing EAC>SHN. I have asked this question elsewhere and have gotten responses that all say I should take the EAC tutorial and I wouldn't need to do the CD player step, but nobody has said why it isn't kosher to simply convert the shows treating the CD player the same as when I go DAT>HD. Could someone please address the CD>HD issue for me? Hey, send it to me in private if you don't want to clutter up the list. thanks in advance, Clancey

Looking to track down Chris Feldott. A search of archives revealed an email address from 2000 which is (surprise!) no longer valid. Get a hold of me ASAP as I am out of town later this week and I want to make sure that you got my end of the trade. From: "Stanley Willey" <stanley_w1967@msn.com> Subject: RE: akg c-3000 recordings.. Date: Mon, 22 Jul 2002 17:37:28 -0700 Greetings DAT heads, AKG c-3000 are drum mics. They cannot produce any quality recordings unless they mixed ( via mixer ) with a omni, cardioid or figure eight pattern microphone. >>akg c-3000>v2>adc-20>hhb pdr1000>hhb 830> eac> cool edit pro> cdr I also cannot believe someone would attempt to fix a show that was taped with these microphones (ie, taking the show from a hhb to eac then editing in cool edit pro). Get a life. There has to be a hundred better sources out there. Furthermore, I hope this doesn't piss some of you guys off by my critique of the AKGc3000. I just have heard countless recording with these mics from over the years still have yet to hear anything worth trading. Peace, Stan

From: "Winnie Olmer" <who@sover.net> Subject: bit for bit accuracy??? where do i learn more? Date: Mon, 22 Jul 2002 21:32:52 -0400 OK.. it's time for me to delve "deeper" into understanding digital music. I soon hope to move to laptop recording and get away from high maintenance and fragile DAT. Is there a good site that explains these concepts? For example..why does some equipment not simply transfer bit for bit? I thought a main feature of being digital was the ability to make exact copies. As I am familiar with in computer files for example. So why does equipment resample? I was looking at starting of gradually with laptops and have been checking out the Edirol UA-D1 USB adapter ($99). The thought was I could use my Denecke AD-20, PS2 and Oktava's with this setup. But I cant "quantify" how bad it may be to NOT be bit for bit accurate. Does it sound noticeably bad? What is the issue of this level of inaccuracy? Any info or links to a good tech site would be appreciated!! One dreams when their D8 is off for repairs!! :-) thanks winnie =========================== "Without love in the dream it will never come true"-Garcia/Hunter Winnie Olmer mailto:who@sover.net Trades: www.sover.net/~who/trades.htm ===========================

What is it with this crowd???? One week I see "Liar!","No, you're a Liar!", "No I'm not, but you are!". Before that it was something to the effect of "if somebody's yelling into your stealth mikes, punch them in the face." And then people sign those messages with "Peace Out" or similar. I suspect it's because fundamentally, music is understood emotionally. I see the same thing on the alt.music Usenet newsgroups. It drives me nuts.
From: "Studiowiz" <studiowiz@sympatico.ca> Subject: SPDIF / AES EBU Conversion / 96K Date: Tue, 23 Jul 2002 02:55:16 -0500 I recently bought a dbx Quantum processor. Some users on the NET [DAW users] are telling me to avoid the 96K all together since I will be ultimately ending up on the DA-40 at 16 bit 48kHz. QUESTIONS: a) Out of my DAW I have SPDIF. I was thinking of going into the Quantum SPDIF and then OUT AES EBU to the Tascam DA-40. Will there be any loss or alteration of signal during this type of conversion. b) Will I benefit replacing the AD DA converters of the DA-40 by using the Quantum in its place? The Quantum has this feature called Type IV Conversion. c) Is there alteration of the signal and loss by going from 96Khz 24 bit down to 48Khz 16 bit. e) Can anybody that owns the dbx Quantum please get in touch with me so I can e-mail you more direct questions. studiowiz@sympatico.ca
From: Keith Bode <t.tunakebo@verizon.net> Subject: Sony PCM R-500 manual Date: Tue, 23 Jul 2002 02:20:51 -0700 For all of youwho gave me feedback on the Sony PCM R-500, thanks, I found one on ebay that has less than 30 hours on it for what I feel is a very good price. I had heard this is the home deck to own, or one of the prior PCM models, and this made the most sense to me. The only short coming is it doesn't have a manual with it. As someone was trying to sell photocopies of a manual on list earlier this week, and was chastised for it, I was hoping someone could direct me to a site, or someone who had one in JPEG, GIF, PDF or another format I coud print out so I could obtain a copy. I don't know what sony is charging for these, but if it's reasonable, i'd buy it, if I can't locate one. Thanks, Keith -- Please check out http://www.wotwild.com for some great animal art and wall decorations.

From: Scott Goodwin <coryphaena_29403@juno.com> Subject: Advice for Taping at Bottom Line NYC? Date: Tue, 23 Jul 2002 11:44:23 -0700 I'm going to The Bottom Line next week - never been there before - and was wondering what kind of atmosphere I could expect for taping. I'm assuming stealth and would be running Core CSB > D8. The act is not one I would expect to even think about people trying to tape her, so mostly I'm thinking about venue security. Tight? Taper-conscious? Thugs? Are there metal detectors? Thought police? Any advice appreciated - SWG
From: Keith Bode <t.tunakebo@verizon.net> Subject: FS: Sony DTC 60 ES Date: Tue, 23 Jul 2002 09:11:07 -0700 I would like to sell this deck and give this group a shot t it before I list it on ebay. I checked with sony last year before sent it to Paul Plotnik at Pro-Digital where I sent it for a total overhaul. Pro-Digital went through the deck. Joints were resoldered, tape heads were realigned, and everything was poured over with a fine tooth comb. Now the deck has maybe 30 to 40 hours of Playback time and 4 hours of record time. I have both the Remote control and the owners manual, bith , bith in good shape. I paid $250 for the Deck and about another $250 for repairs. I expect to loose some money from what I laid out. Make an offer if you are intersted. eithm -- Please check out http://www.wotwild.com for some great animal art and wall decorations.
