He wants everyone that's waiting on a trade from him to know that his home may have to be evacuated due a fire. He had to go to work anyway, so I'm here to be with his mom and to pack up all important things. Hopefully it won't come to that, but we want irreplacable things (like all the dats!) ready to drive out to safety. He'll be back in touch (or I will) from my computer when he can. It might be nice to tag team some of this stuff with someone. I really like the side stage line up on Sunday and am inclined at this point to run my full rig(4011s->v2->ad2k) but would not mind patching over there on Saturday. I might go for patching on Sunday as well depending on the situation. Also Wilco is playing Friday night in Chicago and I will definitely be rolling for that. (it was set to 10 by default) Happy to report - No more intermittant 'zap', at least none I can detect... Just to see what would happen I also set the buffer to 4ms and there were WAY more zipzaps somone suggested setting the buffer to '1024', but I couldn't find a control with that range or units. I've got version 5.12.1.10 of the driver and 1.01.10 of the [control]Panel (from the about tab) I bet they had a different version of one or the other.. ------------------------------ From: Bob Ramstad Subject: Re: ZA2 Date: Mon, 29 Jul 2002 16:14:44 -0700 I've owned a ZA2 for quite some time, and I've never been able to get it to work well in Windows, but it works GREAT in DOS. Simply make up a DOS diskette, copy the relevant ZA2 configuration files over to it, boot from the floppy, use the command line to record to a WAV file, absolutely no problems. The ZA2 is an ISA card, many motherboards think of ISA support as an afterthought... current m/b don't even have ISA slots (!) and so on modern systems with lots of stuff going on (ala Windows) the ISA bus is often starved for CPU cycles and samples are missed. Missed samples cause channel swapping. So, use a DOS floppy, and the ZA2 will work like a champ. -- Bob ------------------------------ From: "cream of mushroom" Subject: TOOL 7-19-02 VEGAS. Date: Mon, 29 Jul 2002 19:58:32 -0700 I went to tape Geoff Tate (of Queensryche)last Saturday at the House of Blues in W. Hollywood. I was met here, for the first time, with metal detectors. I tried a trick passed on by a fellow DAT-Head, by telling them it was just a walkman, but it didn't work. Out of desparation, I just crotched it and tried again, only to be found. I am able to only go to a few decent venues in L.A. to stealth at this point. Since 9/11, security has been worse than tight in most major venues here. I'm wondering if anyone else who lives out here, or elsewhere for that matter, and has gone through the metal detector syndrome has come up with any ways of being able to tape in venues that utilize these devices. I'm sorry, I posted about this a week or so ago, RE: Taping Rush at Staples Center, but this HOB thing has me freaked! Both venues that Rush and Yes are playing here this year have metal detectors and they are looking to be an impossibility, as far as taping goes. I'm hoping others who have encountered this situation might be willing to step up here, or via e-mail, to help me with this problem. I can't be the only one out there that this is happening to! Sony D8/Denon DTR-80P Date: Tue, 30 Jul 2002 18:26:18 +1200 Hi, I recently got a Denon DTR-80P DAT recorder. I'm wondering what connectors I need to be able to clone DATs with this recorder and my Sony TCD-D8. Record on the Denon. The Denon DTR-80P has Coaxial In/Out that is a miniplug fitting, it also has optical in. I'll be needing to get a 7Pin/Coaxial but what is the connecter called that does Miniplug to Coaxial to allow the Coaxial from the D8 to connect together so I can record on the Denon? I can't remember which RCA (right or left) ends up being the input or which is the output, but it should be easy to figure out. I have mine labeled with a Sharpie so I don't have to figure it out in the dark at a show. The levels to/from the Denon are standard S/PDIF so an active cable may be necessary for the D8, but I can't say for sure since the Denon may allow a lot of leeway with the signal. I have an PCM-1 w/active and it dubs to/from just fine. Incidentally, the DTR-80 is an under-appreciated deck. I've had one for awhile as a backup used mostly to patch into the board chain (if there is one) while using the M-1 with my mic setup, or as a loaner deck if I can't make it to a show. It is rugged and dependable and won't freak out people in the chain like an M-1 or D8 will. I use the 6-cell pack with 1600 mAh Radio Shack (green) NiMH AA batteries and easily get 3 hours on a full charge (probably more, but I've never ran it out to see). Get a Zoltrix soundcard and you have a great DAT <-> PC setup too. -- Wayne D.
