From: Justin Trinkes <stoner_fee@taping.org> Subject: taping Bela Fleck at Wolf Trap 8/7/2002 Date: Thu, 1 Aug 2002 01:02:48 -0400 I will be seeing Bela Fleck with Keller Williams opening @ Wolf Trap in Vienna, VA. I am wondering what the taping situation will be. Last year when I went there was no problem bring my equipment in. But they absolutely would not let me raise my stand......any where. Does anyone know if this will be the same policy this year. Or maybe they will have a taper section. What about a board feed? I don't have stealth equipment (AKG 480/ck61 > DMIC-20 > D8) so I really need my stand to get any decent recording. Any information is much appreciated. justin "If you get confused, listen to the music play..." Jerry Garcia http://www.taping.org
From: Greg Gardner <gwg@well.com> Subject: Comparing sources Date: Wed, 31 Jul 2002 22:38:01 -0700 (PDT) I am trying to get an impression on a few mics. Does anyone have any recordings for these mics: AKG C1000S, Audio Technica AT822, Audio Technica AT 825, Audio Technica AT4033? I have some stuff to trade, or I would be more than happy to do a B&P. Thanks Greg Gardner www.phishhook.com/lists/gwg
From: Jens Ljungkvist <jens@wovation.se> Subject: Old computers Date: Thu, 01 Aug 2002 10:09:04 +0200 Hi! I was active here a longtime ago but the past years I've just been a lurker... Anyway, I find the recent discussion about old computers rather interesting= . The work normally assiociated with DAT-live recording and post-processing can easily be done on a very old computer. I still have my trusted PC which had three (3) soundcards configured. It has a ZA2, Turtle Beach Tahiti and some cheap Soundblatser card (for games only). I exchanged the normal harddrive for SCSI (It has 3 harddrives totalling 5 GB), RAM 64 MB and a burner at 2X (this was modern 1996). Oh, and the CPU? A AMD 133 (clocked to 150...2x75MHz). This machine works great for putting live shows on CD or any other postprocessing. We really don't need the latest equipment for sound anymore= . My main target has always been the homestudio (even though I still tape fro= m time to time) so I have moved on to a new Mac (Powerbook G4) on which I run Cubase. I quite like Steinbergs new take on this. In the new version of Cubase SX you can use any other computer (that runs Cubase SX or VST 5.1) a= s an extra processor, maybe processing all your VST-instrument or that really nice reverb on vocals. This is called System Link. Of course for this you need something better than a 133 (like I have) but think of the possibilities! Instead of shelling out alot of money on a real highend computer just buy 2 or 3 older ones get more power than any one computer. I think that any computer (with mine being the lowest in power) to the present can be used with success for audiowork especially with live recordings.=20 Greetz ___________________________ Jens Ljungkvist Vision=E4r http://resmed.jensochsophia.nu/ <-- Res med oss!! http://www.wovation.se/jens/ <-- Tradelist http://www.kulturmejeriet.se/ <-- Mejeriet

From: "Jordan Braunstein" <jordo@columbus.rr.com> Subject: ISO: Samples at Denison Univ. Date: Wed, 2 Oct 2002 09:08:15 -0400 Just curious if anyone might have a line on this Samples show: 4-6-01 Granville, OH Denison University I haven't heard their music before, but a friend told me that the lead singer goes ballistic on a heckler about how everyone there is a "pathetic trust-funder" and then launches into a tirade about life and privilege, etc. etc. Sounds kinda funny so I wouldn't mind giving it a listen. Just a long shot but what the hell. If someone has it and it's really funny I'll do an offer for it here. tia, -Jordan
