From: Adam McMillen <atm135@yahoo.com> Subject: Steve Earle Date: Thu, 1 Aug 2002 15:06:19 -0700 (PDT) Hey folks. I'm new in these here parts...I've read the digest on and off for awhile, finally took the plunge with subscription. I'm really jonesin' for any of Steve Earle's gigs from 2002. I've got a few, but I'm specifically looking for audio from the Mariposa Folk Festival or the Ottawa folk fest. Or from Albany on 7/8 and Burlington 7/9. E-mail me if you'd be up for a trade, I've got all kinds of Earle and many others. Thanks! Adam __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! From: "Frank Rinaldi" <frank@cascademedia.net> Subject: Grace V3 Date: Thu, 1 Aug 2002 15:27:47 -0700 Hey Folks, I am proud to pass along word that Grace Design has announced the long awaited Grace V3. Here are the preliminary details: Lunatec V3 Product Overview The Lunatec V3 by Grace Design is a portable 2-channel microphone preamplifier and high-definition A/D converter designed for audio professionals in the concert taping, music recording and location sound markets. Based on the industry standard Lunatec V2, the V3 represents significant enhancements that enable customers to directly output digital audio signals to high bit depth and high sample rate recording systems. The Lunatec V3 offers the following key features/benefits: . Includes the identical microphone preamplifiers and feature set of the industry standard Lunatec V2. . Ultra-low distortion, stereo, 24-bit A/D conversion included as standard. Outputs include S/PDIF (RCA) and two sets of AES3 (XLR). Sample rates of 44.1, 48, 88.2, 96, 176.4 and 192 kHz are supported. . Both single and dual-wire 176.4 and 192 kHz AES/EBU modes are provided via a pair of XLR connectors, which enable connection to today's high sample rate dual-wire digital recording systems as well as provision for single-wire systems that will likely become the standard in the future. . ANSR TM , our unique new dither circuit, can be applied for word-length reduction when sending signals to a 16 or 20-bit digital recorder. . The converter section can be disabled to operate in analog-only mode, which provides system battery power conservation of up to 40%. . Dual, 8-segment dot mode LED meters provide critical level information at a glance. We are going to have a special presale for the V3, similar to the Mini-Me presale. The expected ship date is going to be August 30th, which Grace has assured me is a FIRM date. Email me for more info. From: Keith Bode <t.tunakebo@verizon.net> Subject: Re: Old computers Date: Thu, 01 Aug 2002 19:37:59 -0700 While I do thnk n old computer will do a perfectly fine job of burning CD's, I would tend not to ageee that an old computer like my AMD K6-2 450 or Jens Ljungkvist's overclocked K5 or K6 would not be remotely appropriate for audio work other than Burning CD's. First, in the computer I do all of my aaudio work in, I run a P3 700 with 1 GHZ of PC133 SDRAM, actually 1024 megs, 4 256 meg chips. In the overclocked 150 I don't think you could even get many, if any MOBO's to hold that kind of volume of RAM, and if it was available it would most likely be EDO RAM. Now when I transfer from a source a chunk that I would like to put on a CD, befor I cut it into tracks, I probably have 65megs of data hanging around to work with. I kind of like to have enough RAM to keep it in RAM instead of virtual Memory. To process a cunk of dat, even just to save it with a P3 700 takes several minutes, which I probably had something I need to do anyway. IMO, I am hard pressed to get rid of this box with an AMD K6-2 450, even with it's shortcomings because it still can do usefull things, although music data opertions I choose to do elsewhere. One other thing I don't do with the AMD on an Asus P5A board is DAE. I had a Plextor Ultraplex 40 max, with the settings all as tested in EAC and I don't remember what the offset with that drive was. I took the same drive, the same SCSI cable, and the same Imation badged 8x20 CD burner, and put them in the P3 700. My settings for secure mode didn't change, and I ran an extraction and the extraction speeds doubled. Using the Copy and Test function my max sppeds went from around 14x to 15x and jumped to 23x to 24x. Some may argue tha I lost accuracy picking up that speed, I don't know. I do knw I called Plextor Tech support and asked them about my extraction. I was told the the Plextor drives don't work as well with MOBO's with Ali or Via chipsets as they do with Intel. Within the last year I have built some computers for friends with burners, always a Plextor, and with a couple of boards I had problems with EAC with non Intel chipset boards. Sorry for the long winded rant, I'll cut it off here, where it seems to be ending anyway, Keith -- Please check out http://www.wotwild.com for some great animal art and wall decorations.
