Erik, Hello. Do not sweat the DTE security. I was there on the 10th to tape Sheryl Crow and could have brought in a bomb undetected if I wanted to. Keep your gear in your pants in front of the zipper and you will get in with no problem. I am pretty sure that there will be no patdown or metal detectors at the Rush show. If you do get turned away at the gate (slim chance) go to the other one and look for someone who is not paying atttention to their job and go through. I have been to the former Pine Knob many, many times in the past three years and I think the only times I got waved with a metal detector was on Sept 15th 2001 just days after the terrorist attack, a 2001 Ted Nugent show and one more I cannot remember off hand. It was only at the Ted Nugent show that I got turned away. Once you are in DO NOT DRINK THE WATER IN THE WATER FOUNTAINS unless you want diareah (mispelled) really bad. All of the water supply in the venue tastes rusty and may be from a ground well. I got very sick after seeing George Thorogood on July 4th. Doctor said it was from drinking contaminated well water. Bring $7 for a "souvineer" beer (expensive) instead. I drank from the fountains on Aug 10th but only becuase I still have antibiotics left over and I had no money to buy a drink. When you get to the lawn do not sweat it. It is pretty much security free. However, if you are not lucky you will be among the "free complemetary pass" crowd which has a tendancy to drink and talk loud. I have been to shows where pavillion was at 1/2 or less capacity but the lawn was filled. Reason being "free passes." At about 9:00-ish the sun goes down. Sadly, that is 45-50 min after the headliner goes on stage meaning that you will be taping in daylight. Personally, I think the lawn taping sweet spot is at both the far left or far right of the stage 30 ft up from the concourse. To get there go right in front of the speakers and walk up the lawn about 30 to 40 feet. At that spot you will be right in line with the speakers. Point your mics at those. I taped from stage right 3 times and it all turned out pretty good. However, due to the nature of the speakers you will have to do a little equalising to get your recording to sound just right. Turn your Line In level controls to the highest setting. It is not too loud up there on the lawn. Hell, I have taped at DTE so many times that I could hold a non-credit class on the subject complete with a field trip to DTE. It is that easy. I believe that the Rush concert is a "free pass" deal, also. If you have friends who do not have tickets they can get in for $3 ($3 is for parking fees which you pay at the ticket booth.). To get a "free pass" simply wait by the trash cans around 7:00-7:20 and the free passes will start to drop on the ground near the entrance gates. Folks who get them bring their extras to the Knob and drop them by the ticket booths for others to use. Sometimes they can number in the hundreds. If www.weather.com says it will rain that night toss your ticket and get a complimentary pass off the ground. You can upgrade it to pavillion for under $15. Last time I did that they offered me a 2nd row seat but since I was taping I asked for row MM, seat 50, right section. If you need Pavilion sweet spot info for DTE just drop me an email. I was able to get admission to half of the shows I been to this year at DTE that way. The free passes are the same size as a ticket and white/grey-ish in color. You can't miss them. The chances of your getting busted at DTE for taping are very slim. For example, last May one guy saw my gear during an Eddie Money show and decided to turn me in. No one came to get me. Those senor citizens that they have for ushers simply do not give a shit. Your Giant Squid mics will work great for that show. Let me know how it turns out. Hope this helps. I am happy to answer any other questions about taping at DTE. Just drop me an email. This makes it easy to pull off half the tape to adjust the knob, and then stick the tape back on. --Gary ------------------------------ From: "scott charles" Subject: rc batteries to power equip Date: Tue, 13 Aug 2002 11:30:21 +0000 Has anyone tried using the 9.6v 1600mah racing car batteries from rat shack to power their equipment? It will power a ps2 and ad20 fine at that voltage, but for how long? anyone done this? What's a normal alkaline 9v's capacity? I seem to remember it's either 650mah or 800mah. I get at least 4 hours on a 9v in each, I'm hoping to get at least 8 or 9 hours with the rc batteries. thanks, scott _________________________________________________________________ Send and receive Hotmail on your mobile device: http://mobile.msn.com ------------------------------ From: Spyro Bouras Subject: FS-New Sony active cables Availible Reply-To: spyro@senet.com.au Date: Tue, 13 Aug 2002 22:25:24 +0930 RKDA10P..active digi/anal switchable heads...
