Anyone on this list that can record "Good Morning Arizona" for me on
Thursday, August 22nd? Not sure if it's broadcast statewide or not? The
John Cowan Band will be performing and the station is unable to supply us
with a copy for our band archives. I will trade anything off my fairly
extensive and diverse list for a master copy of the broadcast.
Please reply directly to me at:

or

Thanks!

I'm planning on hitting 4 or 5 of the US dates of GOMEZ. Does anyone out
there know what their taping policy is? I've heard a live recording of
their last Filmore shows so I'm hoping that's a good sign.

i'm looking for any quality ben folds or ben folds five shows, preferably
made with full rigs, but i'll take anything that sounds good. DAT or CDR is
fine, also online swaps via SHN would be great - if you have a server or
know of a server, please let me know! i have some very nice ben folds/five
and tons of other bands (2300+ shows on my list), your list gets mine. i'm
also really looking for stuff by the bands seely and the sugarplastic - i'm
starting to doubt their existence, prove me wrong!

Hey People,
As the subject says, I have a car DAT deck for sale. It has problems:
- digi-noise most times when playing a tape
- certain buttons will "freeze" with no given warning, then "unfreeze"
in the same manner
Other than that it's fine. Everything (including original packing, all
hardware, remote control and manuals come with it). It requires that
you have an external preamp which is not included. I took it out of my
van in April and was going to send it to Kenwood for possible repair but
I have yet to do so. I called them and they said they could possibly
repair it. I have absolutely no idea of what it would cost and they
would not even estimate over the phone. They did tell me that in a
worst case scenario, they would charge me $40 for looking at it. I've
spoken to Paul Plotnik about it in the past and he too offered to at
least look at it but there were no promises.
So this would make either a decent deck as is (but probably not worth
the effort unless repaired) or a great parts system since everything is
included.
I paid $400 3 years ago and would like to get $75 plus shipping.
Peace,
Sean

Hi
I have a couple of extra tickets for Friday's Santana show at the
Blossom Music Center, in Cuyahoga Falls, OH. Near Akron. They are Sec
13, Row H. That's 8th row, first section. They are on the right
aisle, and I've been trying to swap for some DFC seats a little further
*back*.
If you would like to trade your seats (3) for some a little closer up,
or if you need 1 or 2 tickets (and would tolerate my stealth
activities-to the point where you would assist in a ticket swap if it
gets me DFC), write back to me. He has a new album due out, called
"Shaman", and I think it will be as memorable a Santana tour as there
ever was.

I agree with Scott.
I had a box of 10 that I got from Oade, and EVERY ONE misloaded.
Luckily I've learned to catch a couple.
But unfortuantely I've been burned several times including a couple local bands and most notebly Trey's Bonnarro 2nd set.
ARG!
I need to use the rest of my Sony's (like 5), then I'm switching with the masses to Sony's

I have a PCM-1 and have experienced this same phenomenon with other
tapes as well. I think that you CAN blame the deck. They seem to have
a firmware bug that causes this on rare occasion. Based on how many
times it's happened to me, I'd say one tape in 50 ends up this way.
I've learned to live with it(1). It's still a better good/bad ratio
than other decks in its class. I usually have anywhere from 2 to 10
patchers out of my deck (actually out of the SBM-1) so I don't usually
lose the show.
As for Sony tapes, for the last year or so I've used Sony DDS 60M and
90M exclusively and have had better luck with them than any others.
I've had two Maxells (60M) wrap around the inner workings completely
destroying the tape (This may be due to the deck too, I don't have
enough data--also, I've had Sony tapes not retract fully, but still
managed to salvage the tape).
In short, it's like my Dad used to say, "It [DAT machine] has more
moving parts than a silo full of swiss watches!" DAT portables are
complicated machines and can't be expected to perform flawlessly 100%
of the time. Until laptop/HD recording comes of age, this is all we've
got.
As always, YMMV. I invite others to share their anecdotes.
1. I've managed to (I think--so far) prevent this from happening by
"preping" the tape beforehand and recording a few minutes off the radio
or something, playing it back to make sure it "took" then rewinding in
preparation for recording the show. This also makes sure that "A-Time"
