I sold one of these a month or 2 ago, and someone was interested but got
out bid. There is a brand new one available on ebay now, and even
though I wish I hadn't sold mine, and will be biding on this one, I
figured I'd let the group know, aas someon was definitely interested.
This USB unit is compaatable with all windws O/S through W2K and most
Mac O/S, and comes with ASIO drivers, as well as a hard steel case. IMO
it's a great A/D unit with SPIDF optical aand Coax in and out as well as
analog I+O.

Subject: seeking portable deck and newbie help
Date: Wed, 14 Aug 2002 08:00:33 -0700 (PDT)
Hey folks,
I'm looking to get myself rigged in something of a hurry. I'm just now
getting my brain wet with basic info on DAT equipment.
My initial purpose with the setup will be to record various music and
sounds of a folk festival that starts in 8 days, so there's my hurry. I
want to be portable, and there are some stealth style mics I'm looking at
that got good reviews here:
http://www.nickspicks.com/mics-tf.htm
In the future I will use the deck for "regular" shows and quite possibly
consider good stationary mics.
So, I'm looking for a used portable deck, preferrably with no SCMS (see
I'm learning the basics), in good condition. I am hoping to spend around
$350 just for the deck, but this is negotiable depending on what I'm
getting. I recognize that I could easily spend a lot more on a new or
even used deck.
The other thing I'm looking for here is advice. Can I use those mics
without a seperate pre-amp device if I am recording conversation, ambient
sound and unamped music from close up? I'm also looking for any beginner
advice you'd care to give.
I would especially appreciate a line from anyone in the NYC, Jersey,
Philly area who has a portable deck to sell or ideas on where to get a
used one. I would doubly especially dig hearing from anyone who'd be
going to the Philadelphia Folk Festival, or the They Might Be Giants show
in Central Park tomorrow!
Since this is sales and newbie info I am looking for, please e-mail me
directly rather than posting to the list.
Pez - Daniel

I have about 50 Sony DG90P tapes in the house with me, out of 100 I
bought this winter, and have never had a problem with them. Many
vendors, including Masterpiece AV and Cascade Media reccomend them to
customers as the taape of choice, and I have never had a problem wwith
one yet.

joe, if you remember, day 1 was me sending you, a complete stranger, my mics and a/d for alpine 2000. i could have said no
even when they returned broken, i didn't bitch
when you wanted a place to stay for a PMB show in NYC, you stayed at my house
when i needed a place to stay in the seattle area last year, i had a good time at your place
i have most certainly not had a "beef' with you since day 1. it's only in the past year that you've really started to bug me. i know i'm not alone in this too...

Subject: Audio Capable DAT Drives - $80 shipped
Date: Wed, 14 Aug 2002 11:53:05 -0400
These DDS-2 tape drives can read and write audio DATs. They
have been sold as Archive/Conner/Seagate drives with the
model names of Python 4326/CTD8000/Peregrine. They come with
mounting rails and a faceplate that result in a 5 1/4 inch form
factor for mounting in a standard drive bay. They are SCSI
drives with the older 50-pin interface. These drives are used
but are in working condition.
They have the 01931-XXX 5AC firmware, which allows them to read
and write audio DATS at more than double speed using the dat2wav
or vdat packages. They are excellent for getting audio from a
DAT onto your hard drive, with .wav files broken up by start ID,
a perfect solution for converting to CD-R. Because they operate
at double speed, they are also excellent for cloning.
Price of $80 includes insured shipping in the continental U.S. by
UPS Ground or equivalent. If you are elsewhere or prefer another
mode of shipping, please inquire. Payment by PayPal, postal money
order or cashier's check. Email audiocapable@earthlink.net with
questions or orders.

the time. Open the tape and manually take out the slack, A key works great,
I stop when I hear the tape make a few clicks. Like I said when I do the I
have yet to have problem.

Greetings DAT-Heads,
I was at this show and only managed to get a marginal 2 -60 meters of
recording's. Most of my problems were due to unmatching Microphones and a
bad cable. I am searching for the whole show if possible. I have alot to
trade and will trade anything in my list.

Sorry for the WOB and the short notice. But if you're bored and have tht
itch to tape this evening; and if you live in the Chicago area; here's an
opportunity to catch Blue New World:
>Greetings all, We hope everyone has been having a great summer. The band
>will be playing on Wednesday August 14th at Lakeview Links 3206 N. Wilton
>Chicago, IL at 10:00pm. We hope anyone in the vicinity will come and join
>in the festivities. BNW
If you go, have a great time and please say hello to Joe (guitars and
vocals) and TC (bass, Warr) from me. And I'd also love a copy of your tape.
THanks in advance.
All the Best,
Chris in DC

Hey Now All!
Happy Birthday to me! As a Present my lady wants to
find me a rack to mount my equipment in so after this
bloody fire dies down and I will be putting my things
back together, I can put things in it instead of just
spreading them accross my room . Also it will allow me
to put fans behind it so as to keep things cool .
Summer here is in the 100s and winter it will freeze.
So something small enough for a house, that will hold
about ten pieces of equipment with room to breath and
no door. I have found pro gear, like one would take on
the road but is a little bigger than I need ...
Any ideas ????
TIA, Peace, Michael
As a B/W tax. After I get set up again i will offer
Widespread Panic, 1/12/87 in Athens, GA. I am
Listening right now to a great Fire on the Mountain >
Spoonful from that show!

Subject: FS: Apogee AD500e A/D converter
Date: Wed, 14 Aug 2002 19:56:49 -0400
Hey all,
Well, I finally decided to get off my duff and get my AD500e
fixed. So now I've got a newly fixed and in tip-top shape Apogee, ready to
go on the auction block so to speak. Since I've been happily using my
modSBM1 during the Apogee's state of disrepair, the AD500e is up for sale.
Details:
Apogee AD500e A/D converter (with brand new clock module), cables, and
battery system. The AD500e has had the necessary SCMS-jumper modification
done, so it will work with all DAT decks--successfully used with the DA-P1,
Sony M1, D8, and D100, and even my ancient Aiwa HDX3000 "brick-style" deck.
Comes with 15-pin cable with dual coax outputs and 12v battery connection.
Also comes with a 12v 7Amp-hr battery system that will run the AD500e for
5-6 hours. This is a powersonic battery and comes with the powersonic
PSC-12800A "smart" fast/float charger. Basically, all set up with
everything you need run it in your rig. And since it's already had the
clock module replaced--the problem that almost all Apogees need fixed
eventually--it should be running smoothly for many moons to come. Asking
$625.
Drop me a line if you're interested.
