Date: Sun, 18 Aug 2002 15:29:06 EDT Hi All, I'm looking for recommendations on what to wear (in the summer) to help conceal my rig in stealth taping situations. I use a D8 recorder and Sonosax M2 preamp w/ the XLR connectors sticking out of one side of the preamp and skm-140 mic capsules sticking out of the other. I would think a vest w/ pockets to hide the D8 and M2 would be best. Does anyone know if there's a "niche product" marketed towards tapers w/ this in mind? If anyone has a suggestion on concealing a rig, while keeping the cables a D8 and M2 organized, I'd love to hear it. TIA, Rob ------------------------------ From: Mark Mayhle Subject: Re: How to conceal gear while stealth taping? I have a similar question and would appreciate a CC: of all replies to this inquiry! I'll be using a pair of Schoeps CCM4's, a D100, and piece or pieces in between to be determined. I am looking for advice on mounting the mics (presumably in a hat), concealing mic cables, what preamp/ADC to consider with size and battery life taking some precedence over the very highest end audio specs available (I mean, the V3 looks great but I can't really see using it in a low-profile application). I'd really appreciate all your best trade secrets, off-list for obvious reasons! I'll guard them like a magician's best trick! I have lots of experience with tiny mics and battery box, but this will be a new game. BWT: Steve Earle, 6/16/02 solo acoustic, Showbox, Seattle, on 1 CDR, AT933 cards>D100, transferred properly. HotJobs - Search Thousands of New Jobs http://www.hotjobs.com ------------------------------ From: Keith Bode Subject: Re:Trading Etiquette and Tyvek for sale Date: Sun, 18 Aug 2002 02:36:45 -0700 I agree with Tom completely. Usually when I trade I use Paper CD envlopes, and if I B+P I use Tyvek envelopes. Yes, I am cheap when I trade because the packaging I recieve is usually not aanything like what I would do for myself. I have a copy of a study that shows Tyvek is better for the suface of a CD-R disc than Paper r cloth, Tyvek is less likely to scratch the surface. If someone wants to use some newspaper or looseleaf paper to wrap up their CD's for a B+P, I'll burn them, but if they don't burn or play right, it's not my problem, and I won't cover for bad discs. Now the sale offer. I have a supplier wh gets me god deals on Double weight Tyvek CD envelpes with flaps and windows. I don't have any without the flaps and windows. These CD envelpes weigh over twice as much as standard Tyvek Envelopes, at over 1 pound per 100. I can pass them along, brand new at $17 for 200, and ship then Fed Ex ground for quantities of 400 or more. I only sell them in batches of 200, or multiples of 200. I can give you a shipping quote, if you ae interested. Then the person who I got the deck from wrote me and told me he found them and would ship them out Priority mail 11 days ago. I still don't have them. One person offerec me a pair delivered fr $10. Now he's disappeared for the weekend only I hope. Anyway, if anyone has a pair of these ears, and would like to sell them, I really need to get them. All Items are hardly used in near mint condition. They've mostly sat in my home because time has not allowed me much opportunity to tape lately. The notebook has been out of the house/office maybe 5 times. Powerbook G4 550 bought new in December 2001. Still under apple care protection. 256mb RAM 20gb Hard Drive Firewire USB 56k Modem 10/100/gigabit Ethernet VGA Slot Loading DVD Rom Complete Specs are on www.apple.com VXPocket 2. You know it, you either love or hate it. Apple Pro USB Keyboard. I got this so I could use the laptop with an external monitor at home. I never actually did and it's sat in the box. I have all boxes, paperwork manuals, etc for everything. I have the receipts for both the Powerbook and the VX Pocket. I'm asking $2000 firm on all of this. I will pay for insured shipping personally. Considering what these items go for on eBay, this is fair. If no one here buys the lot, I'll put it all on eBay and take my chances there. Please e-mail me with any questions. I'll try to take some pictures, but as stated, I still have everything and it's all been hardly used. Christian ------------------------------ From: Scott Goodwin Subject: Beeping Soundboard? Date: Mon, 19 Aug 2002 09:28:09 -0700 Taped Colonel Bruce and The Code Talkers Saturday night. Setup was simple: SBD Aux 1/4" outs > 2 x mono 1/4"-to-RCA-to-1/8" stereo miniplug > Analog in D8. Opening act tape is pristine. The Colonel's set, however, has a prominent "beep" about every ten seconds for the entire recording, both sets!! I'm going to try and remove this beep (probably via a severe narrow-band notch EQ in CoolEdit, although I'd love to hear of a better solution), but what I really want to know is - where in the heck did the beep come from?!? Second show is row 15, mostly right PA source. Slight clipping on track 3. Each show is over 2 hours, I use DGP-90s. Second tape has Rusted Root (and a lot of loser drunk loudmouths on the RR part) and finished at 3:07 (30 seconds from end of tape!), so for a dub I would recommend leaving out 10-20 minutes of the opener to leave room for leaders on both ends. Right now I am only trading this as a DAT clone (until I have time to clean it up and track it). Cloning will be done as a dump to HD using sony toslink -->DeltaDIO 2496 --> Cool Edit 2000 and then played back to the DAT stripping SCMS. I primarily am looking to trade for other 2002, '99 or '97 Santana shows, or a Neumann sourced Rusted Root from 2002. Or, heck, just send your list, we can always work something out. -jas P.S. if anyone else taped either of these shows, I would like to compare recordings ... ------------------------------ From: "Jamie Lutch" Subject: iso: kc5 active cables Date: Mon, 19 Aug 2002 10:28:03 -0700 looking to buy a used pair of kc5 actives. if someone has a pair for sale, please get in touch.
