Hi DAT-Heads,
I'm looking for quality recordings of recent BRAD shows. They recently
performed in Boulder, CO (Radio appearance, in-store performance and show),
Seattle (in-store performance) and Portland, OR (in-store performance). If
any one was able to tape these, I have plenty of BRAD, Shawn Smith (solo -
BRAD lead singer) and related bands to trade. Thanks for the space.

Date: Tue, 20 Aug 2002 14:27:47 -0500
Hey all...
I recently purchased a used DMIC-20 and have been having trouble with it
lately. It seems to power up with an external batter (I did tape a few shows
with it before it started having problems) but I can't get any levels from
my mics. I figure it's doing one of two things (1) suddenly not providing
phantom power to my AKG mics, or (2) having internal wiring problems that
resulted from me hooking the unlabeled battery connecters to their opposite
polarities. Oops! The mics still work fine when phantom powered directly by
my DA-P1. Again, the DMIC-20 still powers up, I just can't get levels. Any
help is grately appreciated!! Thanks...

slightly off topic, but i guess some of you have the same problem. I have
hunderds of cdrs in a house that is too small :-) So, i was thinking of
making some kind of archive (like in a library) where i can put the discs
into. buying 'standard' cd-racks is no option. but, maybe some of you have
designed some wooden rack themselves? let me know if you have some designs
or other usefull tips.

Any reports on these? Any reason I shouldn't do it?

For sale: Fostex CR-300 standalone pro cd recorder, rackmountable
It just sits here collecting dust, so if someone has a need for one of
these, get in touch..
This unit is essentially brand new. To make a long story short, UPS broke my
original CD recorder on me, and this is the unit they replaced it with. I
made the jump to burning discs via computer very shortly after, and this cd
recorder has just sat here not even plugged in for the last year and a half
or so. I have the original box and I'm sure I could dig up the receipts for
it as well. I have no idea what these units go for now other than my knowing
I won't get but a very small fraction of what I paid for the original I had.
Make me an offer..
Thanks,
Chris

First thing I would try is see if there's newer software drivers etc
on their web site. Early product shipments often have buggy software.
It's always worth checking for updates even if there's not any obvious
problems. They might have added new features etc. (but keep copies of
the old ones just in case)

Subject: batch of pre-recorded DATs available for B&P value
Date: Tue, 20 Aug 2002 14:13:59 -0700 (PDT)
hi everybody --
i'm cleaning house, and i'd like to find a home for a
few DATs that i've uploaded and archived to shorten.
in a move that i hope isn't too controversial, i'm not
accepting b&p for these, rather i'd like to receive
the amount you'd pay for these DATs as if they were
blank. more on this below.
before i explain further, here's what's on the 6 DATs:
60 Meter tapes:
Beck
5-6-00
Greek Theater, Hollywood CA
dpa4061
Sonic Youth
7-2-99
Greek Theater, Berkeley CA
schoeps ccm4 > sxm2 > m1
90 Meter tapes:
Spiritualized
4-11-02
Gothic Theater, Denver CO
dpa4061 > d8
Robert Randolph & The Family Band
11-16-01
Fox Theater, Boulder CO
b&k4011
Robyn Hitchcock / Sebadoh / Flaming Lips
7-23-99
Showbox Theater Seattle WA
CSB > m1
Zorn-Sharp-Ribot / Thurston Moore - Rashied Ali /
Blonde Redhead
12-20-97
Cooler, NYC
CSB > SBM-1 > m1
all of these are excellent tapes (data grade, mostly
maxell & sony), free of dropouts, etc. a fine start
to a newbie's alt-rock collection...
now, as for the value. american digital
(www.am-dig.com) sells 10 packs of maxells for $3.09 &
$3.19 for 60 and 90 M, respectively, so, using the
cheaper price for 60M tapes... 6 x $3.09 = 18.54. Add
to that whatever it'll cost to ship the tapes to you,
and these DATs are all yours. with this payback money
i'm just going to be buying into a CDr spindle... i
swear i'm not financing al qaeda or anything foul, so
please don't flame me! i am completely open to
negotiation if anybody thinks this is 'fuzzy math' or
i'm trying to pull a fast one... i'm not, again, just
cleaning house.
drop me a line if you're interested in this deal ...
first respondent who promises to get a check out to me
quickly wins.

I've been using my Denon for over a year as a backup deck and/or board
patch deck with a regular tip/ring/sleeve cord with no known ill
effects. The tip/ring/ring/sleeve cord that came with it is too cheap
looking for me to risk using.

You might consider re-building your XLR cables without the long
metal barrel. The "plug" itself is a very tiny part that "floats"
towards the front of the barrel. You can use this part alone;
perhaps some epoxy to help hold the wiring together, or just leave
everything bare for easy repairs.

Hey folks,
Club d'Elf is in need of some tapers to cover their shows on their southeast
run in early September. Some of you may have caught a show or two on their
southeast tour w/ Medeski on keys back in March.
Same deal as last time. I can get 1 person on the guest list per show as
long as you have mics and can make a recording and send a DAT copy up to me
for the bands archive. Pref. goes to people with german mics and quality
preamp, etc. If you don't know anything about the band check out
www.clubdelf.com for more details. This is one of the coolest bands around
these days. They are a totally original all instrumental groove band from
Boston. Some of us have attempted to classify them as post-modern west
african electro groove. They don't really fit into any category or
labeling, so check em out for your damn self. The tourdates are listed
below, with a few to be added shortly.
Hit me back if your can make the commitment to tape any of the shows. 2 of
the shows are opening for STS9 & Lake Trout so you get twice the bang for
your penniless expense.
Take care.
