Date: Mon, 26 Aug 2002 14:28:58 -0500 Hey all... First: I know the Who are releasing this last leg of the tour (wondering if that means the Chicago House of Blues show to) on CD. In fact, I've already ordered mine for the Chicago show yesterday. I taped the show.. but had some problems near the end. Little did I know that the Who were going to run SO long.. and I ended up switching over to 32kHz (better than no tape in my opinion) for the remainder of the tape... which ended like 2 mins. before The Who did! For some reason the 32kHz portion is just filled with diginoise (which doesn't make sense to me).. the rest of the tape is fine. Anyone run a rig at this show? I was using DPA 4060's (w/ high boost caps) to a Sony M1... Would love to get ahold of another audience copy... I did tape Robert Plant as well... it's been put to my computer via DAT2WAV.. but I haven't listened to it yet. Second: A friend of mine just uncovered a box of old cassette masters from FM b'casts... along with some reel to reel stuff. We started sorting through and I found a Melissa Etheridge show I'm looking for information on. It was b'cast on the radio from a venue in Columbus. She states a few times that it's her first time in Columbus.. and after the second song her stage monitors start to blow up (which she talks about prior to the 3rd song). I'm not familiar with most of her works, and have no clue on venue / date / setlist information. All I know is it should be around the early 90's as that's when this guy lived in Columbus. Any help would be appreciated.. and a CD-R copy could be sent too. Thanks, Rich ------------------------------ From: Eric Angel Subject: homemade 7-pin connector Date: Mon, 26 Aug 2002 12:36:12 -0700 Here's my situation. I use a Sony 7-pin to optical I/O for field recording (with a Denecke AD-20), but I have a Delta 1010 sound card that only takes coax SPIDF. I'm cheap and I don't want to buy a 7-pin to coax cable just for the occasional DAT>CD transfer, so I want to make my own. From the Sony D7/D8 Resource Guide webpage I know what 2 pins I need for digi-out. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can use to stick into the 7-pin female connector on my D8? I don't want to haphazardly stick things in and see what happens! Also, do the Delta (Midiman) soundcards accept Sony's voltage levels at the coax input? I use to have an Oade active cable, and that worked with the Delta 1010, but doesn't that cable convert Sony voltage levels to standard SPIDF? Thanks, Eric ------------------------------ From: "skomp" Subject: SONY PCM-R500 manuals and other parts avail at partsearchdirect.com Date: Mon, 26 Aug 2002 16:04:28 -0500 you probably know the situation.... You buy a used PCM-R500, R300 or D8 Sony DAT and it doesn't have the manual and you're on the hunt. Did the same thing myself recently, still finding nothing out there on the web and my last resort was to sift thru 100's of DAT Head posts and see if anyone had it posted yet, we all see the ISO's for it every now and then. Found a ton of ISO's going years back but no solid link to the manual itself yet. I'm hopeful someone has made a .PDF of it and is sending it around when people ask. Otherwsie if are you are still one of the ISO's, here's a website I recently stumbled upon that has R500 manuals avalaible among many other OEM parts for the SONY DAT decks. (circuit boards, buttons, battery sleds, adapters, remotes, etc...) They auctually carry oodles of other consumer electronics parts. Overall it looks to be very nice resource for all kinds of gizmos and easy to navigate thru providing you have a key piece of info ->> KNOW your BRAND and more importantly the MODEL NUMBER first. http://www.partsearchdirect.com You can call them now at 877-62-PARTS and order as well. FWIW: I didn't see the PCM-R300 manaul listed there and i was told the R500 manual covers BOTH decks, it specifies which deck has which features in it. Is this true those of you that have a manual? So look-up the SONY DAT decks using SONY as the brand and PCM-R500 as the model (the manual is listed as part number: 385927801) TCD-D8 as the model (the manual is listed as part number: 381025341) Don't forget there IS a difference between the OWNERS manual and the SERVICE manual. Hope this helps someone - it solved my problem so just thought i'd share :) and why not just go thru SONY directly? it's an option still but i gave up after an hour of trying them first.... ------------------------------ From: John Brinkley Subject: Yes 8/15/02 -alt. source for trade Date: Mon, 26 Aug 2002 12:56:30 -0700 (PDT) Hello all, Got a nice tape of this show to offer for those that might want multiple sources of the Woodlands,TX show. Then if you use CDRWin or EAC to burn the show, specify that cue sheet and your track marks will appear with no cutting of your original file (as long as it fits on a CD). Here is the package: 1 AD-1000: Serial# 0192. Rev C. The word clock has not been replaced. The unit recently started to output consistent low level noise in the right channel. The Apogee tech has said that they would need to see the unit before giving a repair estimate and that repair costs can be anywhere from $150 to $600. 1 PS-1000E: Power supply unit that takes AC input and produces 12 volt output. 2 15 pin to 15 pin cables: Used to connect the power supply to the AD-1000. 1 15 pin to 4 pin XLR cable: Used to connect a battery to the AD-1000. The 15 pin side also has an SPDIF digital out RCA connector. 1 RM-1000: Rack mount bar used to attached above units to a studio rack. Everything except the AD-1000 is in fine working condition. The price is $450 for the whole package, including shipping. I can ship the AD-1000 directly to Apogee, if you prefer. I have the original boxes and manuals. I'm selling because I will be purchasing either a Mine-Me or Lunatec V3 in the near future. I'm waiting for direct comparison tapes to decide. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! Date: Mon, 26 Aug 2002 18:00:40 -0500 Hey Ernie, You're on the right track. Keep the .wav file intact as one file. Then you need to create a cue sheet to put the track information on the disc. There are several programs available to create cue sheets, or, you can make a cue sheet using any simple word processor, even Windows notepad. The trick is to make sure you align the tracks with the frame breaks to avoid any 'clicks or pops' between the tracks. You can find cue sheet editors by search on about any search engine. This probably doesn't explain things very well, but if you check out this site: http://www.cdrfaq.org/ , it will give you as much information as you ever wanted to know. Hope this helps. They have been sold as Archive/Conner/Seagate drives with the model names of Python 4326/CTD8000/Peregrine. They come with mounting rails and a faceplate that result in a 5 1/4 inch form factor for mounting in a standard drive bay. They are SCSI drives with the older 50-pin interface. These drives are used but are in working condition. They have the 01931-XXX 5AC firmware, which allows them to read and write audio DATS at more than double speed using the dat2wav or vdat packages. They are excellent for getting audio from a DAT onto your hard drive, with .wav files broken up by start ID, a perfect solution for converting to CD-R. Because they operate at double speed, they are also excellent for cloning. Price of $80 includes insured shipping in the continental U.S. by UPS Ground or equivalent. If you are elsewhere or prefer another mode of shipping, please inquire. Payment by PayPal, postal money order or cashier's check. Email audiocapable@earthlink.net with questions or orders. ------------------------------ From: Michel Pacifici Subject: 90 & 99 minute cdr ? Reply-To: mickpacifici@attbi.com Date: Tue, 27 Aug 2002 01:03:40 -0700 I was wondering if anyone has tried 90 or 99 minute cdr's... I was looking around for a cheap source for mitsui's and found a place that sells 90 and 99 minute (Generic) cdr's for 30 and 40 cents respectively. I bought a package of each and so far I am happy with my results. I really pushed the cd's with an 89:57 Soulive show on a 90. I fit a 99:57 Galactic show on a 99!!! I've done about 3 or 4 cd's on both 90's and 99's. I've played them in every cd player I have from a 400 disc Sony changer, to an Apex DVD player, to my Ford 6 disc changer.... and so far I haven't found a glitch. I've listened very close to the first and last tracks and no issues..... Even the 99:57 Galactic that failed to write the cd's lead out in Feurio plays just fine, the fade out at the end of the show is clean!!! I bought a 10 pack of each just to try them and now I am going to order 100 packs of each. I still plan on burning important shows to Mitsui's but it's great to hear an 85min or 98min show in it's entirety!! Think of how much more you can get into a car changer if each disc has 90 - 100 minutes as opposed to 40 - 60.. Just thought I'd offer my 2 cents BWT 90min CDR B&P of the 89min:57sec Soulive 8/10/01 show, here is the info: I can also do shn's at the same time if you want them (1) 74 min CD for the shn's Soulive August 10, 2001 Late Night Lower Lodge @ Berkfest Butternut Ski Basin, Great Barrington, MA Source: Neumann KM140(X/Y OnStage Nealside)> Sound Devices MP2> Sony TCD-D100 @ 44.1khz ------------------------------ From: george wang Subject: re: trading tickets and membership fees Date: Tue, 27 Aug 2002 05:44:53 -0700 (PDT) > From: "Hance, Bill" > Subject: trading tickets and membership fees > Date: Mon, 26 Aug 2002 08:59:04 -0400 > > unplanned circumstance. Christian ------------------------------ From: "Holland, John" Subject: ISO: Bluegrass DAT for BnP (w/ WOB) Date: Tue, 27 Aug 2002 14:25:46 -0400 A DAT-related question for the Datheads list ? Go figure ! I'm hoping that some kind soul will respect my decision to get back into trading tapes (DATs this time around) and offer me a BnP for some tasty bluegrass. I'm particularly fond of any Tony Rice Unit from 80's or early 90's (when he could still sing), or any John Hartford, Bela, Jerry Douglas, Sam Bush, Grisman...you get the picture. As far as newbies, I really like Nickel Creek (that mandolin player!) and Yonder Mountain String Band. And I'm always ready to discover something new, even if it costs the $2.50 for a tape. Recent Jamgrass tour tapes would make me your digital slave forever. As my CDs get lost/damaged/stolen/borrowed and not returned, I find myself getting more and more attached to my DATs, and would love to get some bluegrass in there with all the jambands that I've taped. My ears have finally reached the point where they prefer 48Khz to 44.1Khz Of course, anything that really gets me going will be reoffered on this list (w/ your permission). If you're the kind of Dat-taper that only entertains trades and doesn't mind CDs, my list is attached below with the WOB. Let the good tapes roll, John WOB - any show on my list to the first 3 folks who reply offlist. A new addition not on the list is the Al Dimeola 3-6-02 at Jazid in Miami Beach, taped by Steve Quorten (stealth AKG 451s > Tascam DAP1 at 48K.) Just converted that one to CD. http://db.etree.org/Xpanding ------------------------------ ** FOR YOUR REFERENCE ** To unsubscribe from this digest, please send email to dat-heads-unsubscribe@datheads.phish.net If your email address has changed, you may (optionally) send the message to dat-heads-unsubscribe-oldaddress=olddomain@datheads.phish.net and the old address will be removed.
