I made a tape last night running Core CSBs into a D8 mic input. Levels
were ser correctly, or even a little low, and the brickwalling effect is
obvious. I'd like to make up some sort of electronic device to stop this
from happening, but don't know what that might be - A resistor? I want
to attenuate the mic signal without affecting frequency response, etc.,
and would like to avaoid going to a seperate preamp unless there's just
no other way to do it. How are the Core guys making the 'low sensitivty'
CSBs?
Just wondering -

can these posters be removed from the list? once a week or more is a bit
excessive for their FS posts...

For sale (going to laptop recording);
1- Sony D8
(includes Warrantech RepairMaster valid to Feb 8th 2004)
2- Oade Active Digital Cable
3- Denecke AD20 (Preamp & A/D converter)
Customized. Large readable gain knobs. Installed 1/8" plug to accept non-XLR
mics. Negates the need for a 1/8 to XLR adapter... and saves space.
4- Denecke PS2 48 volt Phantom Power
5- 6 volt 7AH Power Pack w/charger and cable for D8 and AD20
$1000 Firm. non-negotiable. I feel the price is fair as-is.
Thanks.
Any questions... email me.

Core sells in-line attenuators for this very purpose. I almost always use
at least a -11dB attenuator with CSBs or HEBs, more often -20dB and
sometimes both together. You can make your own if you're so inclined; I
think it's just 2 or 3 components but don't know the relevant formulae and
circuits offhand.

Subject: Tascam DA-40 MAJOR AES/EBU Problems - PLEASE HELP
Date: Sat, 31 Aug 2002 21:55:41 -0500
I am borrowing a Quantum I (version 1) to test it before buying and I am
having problems.
INPUT: Analog IN [TS Unbalanced]
BYPASS ON
Clock Mode: 48INT
SRC Off
OUTPUT: AES EBU
Bits: 16
Dither: HPTPDF & Tried SNR2
Shaping: S2
TYPE IV ON
Color: None
My source is from a phono pre-amp into the quantum. It has nothing to
do with the playback source device. The input levels are fine. I am
using Canare DA 202 110 ohm AES/EBU cable with properly wired gold
pinned Neutrik XLRs at 30 foot length.
Recorder: Tascam DA-40 DAT The heads are perfectly fine and there are no
errors on the recorder side. I have checked the Block Error counter.
The DA-40 is set to AES/EBU, 48KHZ, Digital IN
The signal Locks fine on the display of the DA-40. There is no question
mark on the display and it says AES/EBU48.
Some recordings work while others are displaying bizarre behaviour and
Im wondering if it is from the DBX. During recording, suddenly in the
middle the pause button will light up on the DA-40 and pause for like
1-0.5 seconds and then continue. Intermittently. It is really
annoying. I re-check those gaps and it is not a error caused by the DAT
recorder, being that the error rates are still locked on 000. Plus when
I try re-recording over the same spot it works. I only use SONY DG60P
or MAXELL HS/4-60
I want to use the DBX to track long live mixes for up to 3 hrs
flawlessly. What on earth is going on? This is pissing the hell out of
me and I have always trusted DBX quality.
I have also noticed intermittent high frequency one off "ticks" like
bits of digital noise. Its very slight and almost impossible to detect
but it is a one off TICK. The manual boasts about the clean OUTPUT of
low jitter and a wonderful clock. What on earth is wrong here? I did
A-B comparisons and I know it is NOT on the source.
I have already tried the hard reset on the Quantum as suggested by DBX
Tech Support but that did nothing. I was just in the middle of a live
60 minute recording and at the 50 minute mark, the DA-40 did it again,
paused for 1 second and then continued on to the end.
I have been doing SPDIF clones IN and OUT of the DA-40 to a Sony CDRW33
CD Recorder with no problems - MANY TIMES. Never one glitch. I always
thought AES/EBU was supposed to be more stable for everything, and to
always use it whenever possible.
Im giving up, please help.

[Although I received no response to my first plea for help, I still believe
this is the best forum for my question; so I'll try to rephrase: ] 48khz
from D8 goes via optical to Yamaha UW500 USB audio interface; but in the
computer (IDE, Pent.III 1.2ghz, 768 MB RAM) in Cool Edit Pro, I just hear
digital beeps. Is Cool Edit Pro the right app for this? have I failed to
set up CEP properly? What is the app of choice for recording 48khz ? If
there is a faq or tutorial for this, i'd appreciate being pointed toward
it/them. Thanks

Hi All,
This has been a great year for Prog-Rock fans. First Rush tours for the first time in 5 years, the classic Yes line-up tours, and a Jethro Tull tour! I taped Tull last night at the Foxwoods casino and got a great recording. It was a great sounding theater, the fans were quiet and actually sat down, and no security check! Anyway, I would like to trade for current Tull tour, other Tull shows, or just send your list.

WISHBONE ASH will be playing a few U.S. dates prior to their AshCon cruise;
very rare to see the band over here!
anyone into "classic rock", great guitar, dual harmony leads/playing, might
want to check them out, and tell 'em i sent ya! the latest lineup is really
great, playing songs from the new album in addition to many old classics
the band does not mind fans taping/trading their shows but don't "come out"
in public about it, so stealth might be necessary depending on the club
a friend of mine is doing some of the roadeye/merchandise chores on the
tour, and if anyone is going to go to a show & wants to tape, drop me a line
& i'll see about hooking you up with him, he might be able to give you some
red carpet treatment/board access/help get your gear in etc

I'm looking into getting a pair of DPA miniature
microphones for the purpose of stealth recording. I'll
be primarily recording loud rock concerts. I have a
few questions about these mics:
A: For my situation would it be preferrable to get a
pair of 4060 or 4061 mics?
B: What powering options should I look at for these
mics?
C: Where can I get them for a good price?
Thanks in advance,
Bob Dobalina
