The Birchmere is one of the most anti-taping places I have ever encoutered and also the only place I've been busted. I was taping NRBQ and was turned in prior to the show by either the wait staff or another concert goer. To make this an even bigger slap they took my deck until the end of the show and actualy hooked it up to the board and recorded the show on my tape before giving me the deck back at the end with low batteries and no tape. Can we say OUCH!!! The new Birchmere or Birchmere bandshell I think as it's called is bigger and there is a dance floor in front of the stage and it's a lot easier to tape. My bust aside I dislike this place for their strict old school no taping policy, expensive ass craapy food, expensive beer, and the old general sit down and shut up vibe of the old place. Anyone want to trade NRNQ from the Birchmere or any other venue drop me a line.

if there's anyone out there who might be able to catch and tape either (or
both) of the following shows, please get in touch. david berman/the silver
jews have a long history of hardly ever playing live and these shows should
be pretty great. i have over 400 cds of pavement, silver jews, jicks,
preston school of industry and related recordings (plus countless other
things) available for trade. thanks! cory

Subject: Neil Young freebies/Counting Crows video/DVD recorder for sale
Date: Fri, 06 Sep 2002 17:01:14 -0400
A few items:
1) I have several more copies of the Neil Young "Time Fades Awy/On The Beach" remastered disc to give away. If anyone wanted one last time and didn't hear from me, here's your chance. I'll let you know if you made it.
2) I am looking for a video of the Counting Crows show on 10/14/00 at Lakewood Amphitheater in Atlanta, GA. I have the audio of the show and of Live's set, but I have never seen the video. I don't even know if it exists, but if anyone has it, I'd like to get a copy. I have other vids to trade or audio masters.
3) Is anyone on this list interested in a standalone DVD recorder? I have one of the Panasonic models, used for only a few months for sale. This is not a computer based burner. It works like a VCR with any blank DVD-R disc. Please contact me if you're interested.
Thanks,
Wes

1) Hopefully some nice deadhead can answer this for me. I would like to know if either One from the Vault or Two From the Vault were ever released on vinyl. I have seen Without a Net on vinyl, and those were released around the time it was released, so I would think that they might have, even if just a limited run. I know Mickey Hart's a techie, so he might have voted against it, but hopefully they were released. If anyone knows, or better yet has one for sale, I'd love to hear from you.
2) I would like to find the entire 1974 Winterland run on CD. Aud or SBD is fine, but I want to get the whole run from one person. I have seen separate shows on people's list, but I want to get it all in one shot. If you have the whole run and are willing to trade, please contact me. I have some dead but mostly indie bands to trade but I'll find you something.
3) I would also like to find a recent Flaming Lips show with material from "Yoshimi". They are on tour with De La Soul and Modest Mouse right now, so if there's an FM, SBD or great audience tape, I'd love to hear it.Does anyone know if they are still doing that headphone system they did last tour?
Thanks,
Wes

this is something worth doing to my inbox, i figure. now, i'm
soldering-iron willing and capable, but a bit ignorant, i guess.
xlr is three wires plus a ground, or so it appears looking at the inside of
my box. on the ribbon cable, 4 wires are dedicated to each channel, one
appearing to be a ground and three others for the pins. going to the 1/8"
mini, i'll be working with 2 wires.... hot and ground, per channel.
and then there's the issue of the ribbon cable having no markings...i'm
assuming it's a standard connector/cable that pops right out of the
connection on the board?
as always, i appreciate all the help/info this group has given me over all
these years.

The XLR digital output on the Fostex is AES/EBU (pro format),
which is a format the D8 doesn't quite understand. The optical
output of the Fostex D5 will work (using a POC-DA12 optical cable
on the D8), but, only if the tape being played in the Fostex doesn't
have prohibitive SCMS. The Fostex D5 never records SCMS, and
a digital signal passed through the D5 will have SCMS stripped, but
when the D5 plays back a tape, it passes on the SCMS as
recorded on that tape. (IE - the SCMS stripper is in the input
circuit, not the output circuit).
You can probably get around both of these problems by recording
from the D8>Fostex. The Fostex D5 XLR *input* will accept either
SP/DIF (consumer) or AES/EBU (pro) digital signals. And this will
definately reset your SCMS to 00, if there is any SCMS on the
tape.

Subject: NiMH 9volts in Sonosax?
Date: Sat, 7 Sep 2002 01:14:20 -0500
I've recently switched to NiMH AA batteries to power my D100 and absolutely
love them. The energizer 1700mAh batteries blow alkalines away, are
cheaper, and much better on our environment!
However, now I'm looking at the 9volt rechargables to power my sonosax and
wondering if anyone has tried this before and has any comments. I currently
get 3+ hours out of 2 fresh Duracell Ultra's which is pretty good. I've
gone really long shows with just one set which is nice. However, I'm
wondering if the NiMH 9v's will last as long, or longer than alkalines like
their AA brothers. The sax requires 14volts from 2 9v batteries which means
once they fall below 7 your doomed. I know most NiMH's carry less voltage
than alkalines (1.2 vs. 1.5) which might be an issue.
Anyways, please email me or post to the list if you have any comments.
Thanks
Zach

I am parting with a mint condition v-2 microphone pre-amp. This unit is in
excellent working order. There are no scratches or dings in the unit either.
I purchased this unit new from sonic sense in late 99, I have the paper work
to back it up. I will also include 2 eco-charge batteries with the pre-amp.
$775.00 gets all!
Please serious inquires only as one person has allready strung me along and
fell through. I will be happy to send pics.
Thanx
DAVE
