I have everythng to do this, but have yet to try it. What I have, and
would use is the turntable to a reciever to the Tape Out>A/D
converter>Digital Sound Card SPDIF in>Software of choice. I have
recorded direct to the HD this way from FM, and don't see why it
wouldn't work for LP's. There are a few nice USB Devices that have
analog in and A/D converters, so you can have even less equipment. I've
used the Ego Sys U2A and their new U24 and was very happy with the
results from both.

How can someone not get mad at that statement. You are a taper geek who
decides to try and insult half of the tapers on this list to prove a point
that has nothing to do with the section. And making fun of some ones
(fictional) musical taste/list here of all places???
Stick to your point! You show your lack of knolage about gear or your ears
lack of ability with this statement. Argue selling shows & stealthing with
this guy is fine but trying to tell us what type of taper is better & more
respected than another is just making you look like an opinionated
...............?.!
Jason, you are correct. I am quite opinionated and I have a tendency to get
up on my soapbox. I was just ranting about this guy who thinks that people
who make non-authorized tapes are bad... Taping can be fun and I dont want
to spoil anyone's good time - no matter where they want to record from. I'm
sorry if I offended anyone (besides the taping police).

There is a good outboard-phonopreamp:
Rotel RQ 970 BX. I bought it about five years ago for 400 DM (200
US-dollars) and it has a switch for MM or MC systems, most people have a
MM system.
I don´t know whether they are selling it now.

This is for their recent set at The Museum Of Television And Radio
in NYC. The show was recorded live from the webcast to an
SBM > DAT and is on a DIC-DAT 60m DAT. In return, I'd like
one sealed Sony or Maxell 60 or 90m DAT plus postage.
First to respond after the Digest hits my mailbox gets it...unless you're
willing to do B+P's for others, which I would give preference to (and
then you wouldn't have to be 'first'), in which case please tell me how
many B+P's for others you're willing to make...the highest # of B+P's
offered will then get it. 'The contest' ends 48 hours after I get the Digest,
and I will email back all who respond.

Subject: Pro taper vs Anti taper issues
Date: Mon, 9 Sep 2002 17:54:21 -0700
I have been reading some of these posts and just want to add my take on
this issue.
Heres what really cracks me up about the anti tapers and the musicians
who are anti taper:
They think their live shows are going to end up on bootleg silver cd's
and some low life is going to profit
big time off of them.WRONG!Heres Why!!!
Bootleg cd companies have to spend huge amounts of dough to produce
somewhat of a quality product that
they think are going to be monetary reward on their investment.Do you
really think some bootleg record company
gives a sh-t about guys who play small venues like Leslie West,Rik
Emmet,Robben Ford or Robbie Krieger?
Its ludicrous for these small time artists to think they're going to get
bootlegged by some huge bootleg company.
Big time bootleg companies (if there are any left) want big name acts
like Stones,Who,etc.
And those bands have lots of money anyway charging $300.00 a ticket, they
can afford the loss.
Bottom line is this,if the fans want some live jams, then the bands need
to give it to them!
Its tapers who are the die hard fans,we're preserving history and
documenting a great event that took place,
bands should be thrilled we go to great lengths to tape them.No ones
making any real money who tapes shows
period,not any real money anyway.
If you don't want people to tape your show, then STAY HOME!!Be a big baby
and never play live music again!!
This whole mentality of,"you're ripping off the band" or "you should ask
permission first" is the most stupidest
thing I ever heard in my life.If your live show winds up on boot cd and
ends up on some table at a swap meet,
YOU SHOULD BE SO LUCKY!!!!!!!
Do I think all bands should be taper friendly and allow a sea of mic
stands at every show?
Absolutely not!Taping should be done totally discreetly and harassment
should never take place.
Live music is not a crime, only ignorance is.

Please tell me how to spend my money.
I have a sony T3 , with CS binaural mics w/battery box. I got the
mics off ebay.
I need recomendations what to purchase next, whether:
1) Better mics
2) a Pre-Amp
3) An A/D converter
I unfortuately have as an absolute limit $300 to spend.
I stealth, at least when I can afford to go to a concert. I wear
baggy pants, and everything is in the pockets. =20
I have been looking at the Sound Professionals binaural, but are the
$219 that much better than their $179?
So please advise me.

I have a friend who taped at the Birchmere back when they
allowed taping. I don't know if he is still on the list,
maybe he'll post a clarification. A summary of what he
told me is that taping was ended at the Birchmere because
a taper stole a soundboard patch one night.
In any case, fuck the Birchmere. Some great artists play
there but I'll never spend another dime there. Someone I
used to know had a friend who's band was going to play
there and he wanted me to tape them. When the band asked
the venue if they could have a tape made of the show, the
Birchmere gave them a hard time. As far as I'm concerned,
the artist has the last word, not the venue (ok, unless
I'm stealthing and yes I see the hypocrisy in that).
So anyone who can stealth the Birchmere successfully, please
do and please circulate those tapes like crazy. Do whatever
it takes to piss those fuckers off.
BTW, that 1989 superpickers show is awesome. I have the
Senn441->CM(Marantz)->DAT->CD. I'll make B&Ps for a few
people.
