i read somewhere in the digest that someone had said he just read the single most stupid thing in regards to the bootlegging thread, but this one beats it, hands down;
In a message dated Tue, 10 Sep 2002 7:50:01 AM Eastern Standard Time, "Matt C." <Snakebite@nyloose.com> writes:
> >>>snip<<<
> someone wants to trade with me. they have nothing on their list that intersts me. they offer a b&p. i tell them to send me 2 apogee gold cds and $3.50 for shipping. they say

>>>end snip<<<
someone offers to allow you to do a b&p for them? lucky you. OK, seriously, who cares what someone sends you unless your burner is unbelievably finicky, or they are sending you something where the layer is already flaking off, in which case you'd send it back or write them and tell them to send a better cd (or, like i would probably do, and use one of my own discs for them and write a letter in the b&p package). now, 43.50 to mail it back to them? how many b&p's are they offer to allow you to do for them? i just sent 16 discs out in a trade, cost $2.59. last line is a clincher, and I'll quote it here; " so now we have the cost of the cds, the shipping of the blank cds and postage." the cost of shipping, and the postage? wouldn't they be one and the same?
anyway, just an observation, and my vote for weakest argument ever.

Hi Folks,
I am on vacation, but have obviously have seen the email which is flying
around here.
1) This list promotes free speech, you do get your say
2) However, it is about helping each other with both technology
and technique, in some cases trading information
- This means that while your opinion does matter, you may end
up having to say "consensus is against me and that is ok."
- "Fighting the list" (or certain people) whether you think you are
right or not is inappropriate
3) There are some actions which are prohibited here (profiting off
someone else's music), but speach on such is not necessarily
(ethics...).
However, at some point these discussions become hard to
resolve. If you send more than 3 messages on such a topic,
this is a good sign that this is past due for you to repeat a
varient of the
above phrase and step away from your email.
4) This is not a trading list overall, so while trading warnings
are helpful (bad trader, bootlegger...), this should be to a
certain extent.
I am frankly annoyed at the childish and in some cases mean
posts which are displayed here. I have provided this service
for free for greater than 10 years and with the company that
employees me moving, I will again have to invest a fair amount of
time to continue offering it. Such discussions as the current have
the potential to drive away individuals who can provide good
technical advice, which for me makes this list pretty useless
(there are plenty of trading forums). So if DAT-heads does not
resume as a technical list, it may not move.
More immediately, however, if DAT-heads does not resume to technical
discussions after the digest that includes this post, I will likely impose
a
silence effective midnight 9/11 for at least 24 hours. That is a day when
we should not be fighting each other.
Thanks,
Sean

It's painfully obvious this has become the stupidest troll ever on
DAT-heads. Can we all stop talking about it so maybe the jackass who
keeps equating B&Ps with "selling" will go away?
Thanks muchly for the cooperation.

ready to work at BIG event at the Warfield when the
Stones are in town. No one has said it's actually the
Stone that are playing, but my friend is 99% sure it's

Matt, yet your postage charge is high for a bubble envelope and 2 cd's. B&P
means that
someone usually sends you (the burner) a return bubble mailer with the blank
cd's, postage and return label affixed. 60 cents is what it takes for 2
cd's. $3.50 for postage on a 2cd B&P. Gold cd blanks? LOL...who is
ripping off who?

Anyone who has either done or requested a B&P knows that the mailer is part
of the deal. What, do you put the stamps and address label on the
discs/tapes themselves and throw them in the mail? Now you are just being a
jackass, which judging by some of your other comments during this thread,
seems to be par for the course for you.
Then, in another message, you tried to rationalize your ridiculous opinion
by writing:
>someone wants to trade with me. they have nothing on their list that
intersts me. they
>offer a b&p. i tell them to send me 2 apogee gold cds and $3.50 for
shipping. they say
>they can't find any apogee gold cds. i offer to buy some through mail

>have the cost of the cds, the shipping of the blank cds and postage.
A) Since when does a person demand what kind of cds to send for a B&P? Is
that something you came up with? Hmmm...wonder why?
B) If you buy the cds using their money, you aren't selling them the cds,
the mail order company is...you're just placing the order. That's the same
fucked-up logic the cops use, charging me with dealing if I go buy a bag for
you, with your money, for your personal use. Unless you are marking up the
cost of the cds. Then you are selling, and by the way, are an asshole for
doing that and should be shunned.
>and you don't think b&ps aren't selling????
Nope, and neither does anyone else in their right mind
>i guess it's all how you justify it, isn't it? many of you 'traders' are
just 'selling'.
School time for you, and unlike your "lesson", from a legit
source...Webster's New World College Dictionary, 4th edition:
sell: to give up, deliver, or exchange (property, goods or sevices) for
money or it's equivalent.
seller: a person who sells
trade: an exchange; swap
trader: a person who trades
Ok...now that we have that straight, let go over the basics of a B&P...You
(not you literally, not a f-ing chance) send me 2 discs (or
tapes...whatever) and return postage, in a mailer. I burn those discs and
send them back to you, using your supplied postage and either the used
mailer, or a fresh mailer if you sent one. That's a standard B&P. Nothing is
SOLD (the past tense of SELL...from the dictionary again. You really ought
to get one of these).
A trader sends one disc (or tape) for every disc (or tape) received...no
money, or it's equivalent, changes hands.
Throw in all the "what if's" you want. Your argument has no merit. You're
wrong, and frankly just plain full of shit.

You could always look for a late 70's high end Marantz or other stereo
receiver. The back of my 2275 has an output after the pre-amp, originally to
be used to run an outboard amp. Many times you can find these type of units
in thrift shops or ebay.

Great band out of california. Full of emotion and innovation. Closest label
that i could find for them is a blend between tool, failure, pink floyd,
