Hello,
SSIA. They're playing at the Riv. Apparently they are taper friendly - talk
to the sound man if you have any issues at the door. Sorry for such late
notice. Please contact me and we can work something out...

I have found a nice "bang for the buck" buy for a Phono pre is a
Dynaco PAS-2 stereo tube pre-amplifier circa 1960. It sounds
really nice has a no negative feedback that was copied in many new
high $$ tube pre's and can be picked up used for around $180. I
am currently with out a nice A/D while waiting for the V3 to
arrive but made a test shn of the setup. The shn is the first two
tracks off my quad pressing of Darkside of the Moon.
Source Info: AR ES-1(belt drive)->Shure V Type III->Dynaco PAS-2
(Magnetic In/Tape Out)->Philips CDR-800
This shn is avail. for d/l at my fileserver

If anyone is going to record any of these shows I have tons to offer. I
know from my own experience that the band is open to SBDs. I can't stress
enough how essential these guys are to see and record.
Hope to hear from ya!

So I just picked up one of these and absolutely love it. Problem is I'm
not sure on how often I need to clean the heads. In the manual it said to go
by the instructions on the cleaning cassette. Well those instructions say
the same thing. Pretty funny I thought, got a laugh out of that one.
I use a maxell HS-4/CL to do the heads on my sony D3 about every 10 -12
hours. As suggested by someone with good knowledge. Should I apply the same
rule to the DA-20? Thanks!
Stay human,
-Mike

A friend of mine used this set up with surprisingly good results:
Pick up an 'open' parabolic structure. He used the back half of an electric
fan with the motor and fan blade removed. This left just a parabolic chrome
metal lattice. Rig a setup whereby the mics are sitting inside the lattice
with windscreens on. This may necessitate bending the lattice in the back so
that the mics can fit thru it, and bending the lattice on the bottom so that
the mic stand can pass thru as well. Make sure that the front of the mics
are behind the most forward part of the lattice. Then run panty hose over
the front of the lattice and as much of the sides as possible. The hardest
part was getting the mics and the metal lattice to be attached and stable on
the mic stand. The panty hose purportedly had no noticeable effect on the
audio but did act as a suitable wind diffuser. Warning: be prepared while
using this odd looking thing for the know-it-alls out there to come up and
ask which brand of panty hose works best....

OK...I've been saving my change for these shows for over a year now,
confident that they were coming soon, I bought a plane ticket already
determined that I would be taping these shows and got no love on the
lottery, that's the way it goes when probably more than 100,000 people are
trying to get tickets. Well I will be running SCHOEPScmc6/mk41v>Lunatec
V2>Apogee MiniMe>24/48 or 16/48 for patches, I will hook up a patch, or CDS
DAY AFTER EACH SHOW for someone who could help me get into these shows...I'm
sorry to do this, but like I said I've had my mind set on this for
years...JOHN

Peace,

I'D TRY TO BE AS COOL AS POSSIBLE. A FRIEND OF MINE SAW THESE 2 DO A SPECIAL LIMITED ACOUSTIC TOUR IN THE UK, AND THERE WAS AN INCIDENT THAT OCCURED THAT IS NOT TO BE BELIEVED.
AS MY FRIEND TELLS THE STORY, BOB (WHO IS ACTUALLY A MIDGET), IS COOL WITH TAPING, BUT MITCHELL IS VERY MUCH AGAINST IT. AT THIS PARTICULAR SHOW IN A PUB ABOUT 2 MILES AWAY FROM WEMBLEY STADIUM, THEY WERE PERFORMING FOR AN INTIMATE CROWD OF 125. MITCHELL SEES THIS GUY SITTING TO THE LEFT OF THE STAGE AREA, WEARING A BASEBALL CAP WITH MICS IN THEM. MITCHELL STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SONG (WHICH I THINK WAS THEIR CURRENT HIT SINGLE), STANDS UP & STARTS TO CUSS OUT THIS GUY MAKING A TAPE....RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF A SOLD OUT HOUSE. BOB (WHO IS QUITE HOT TEMPERED HIMSELF), TELLS MITCHELL TO SIT THE HELL DOWN, AND THAT THE GUY TAPING IS NOT HURTING ANYBODY. MITCHELL TURNS TO BOB, PUTS IS GUITAR DOWN, KNEES HIM IN THE FOREHEAD, REMOVES HIS HARP BRACE, A BEGINS TO CHOAK BOB WITH IT FROM BEHIND HIM.
WELL AS YOU MIGHT IMAGINE, THE AUDIENCE THINKS THIS IS PART OF THE ACT, BUT IT IS NOT. BOB PASSES OUT....THE GUY WHO WAS TAPING.....QUICKLY SPLITS.....AND MITCHELL PICKS UP HIS GUITAR, FINISHES THE SONG, AND WALKS OFF STAGE!
SO, BE REAL COOL IF YOU ARE GOING TO ATTEMPT TO TAPE!
GOOD LUCK!

Subject: Those TDK CD-rs
Date: Sat, 14 Sep 2002 17:22:59 EDT
Yeah; looks like there are plenty of TDKs out there made by Ritek. I think
that the "made in Taiwan" is a good way to tell that theyre not the good
stuff right?
I have noticed that the TOP of these silver CD-Rs peel off with ease. I
happened to rup the back of my fingernail on one of them (not the side with
the info but the top you would write on) and the silver peeled off like old
paint!!!
Does anyone have a way to tell the good TDK blanks from the bad ones? What
about that "Certified Plus" thing?

I have a SONOSAX SX-M2 for sale.
Included with pre-amp is a Custom 12v Lead Acid Battery & Charger.
All perfect working order and excellent condition.
Comes with all original gear, hard case, padding, and owners manual.
Battery is 3 months old.
Custom Battery weighs just over one pound and will power unit for well over
12 hours. Many people run Sonosax simply on two 9v batteries, but that can
get
expensive if you plan on taping frequently. The lead acid cell and charger
elimates the
need for any further battery purchases. A custom 12v + charger from
Eco-charge will run you about $300. The chargers and cells are identical to
what Eco-Charge or Oade would sell you at 3 times the price.
A brand new Sonosax will run you about $1000.
I'm selling Sonosax, Battery, and Charger for $800 firm. .
Pictures can be found at

Thanks for the space, Phil

This appears to be the full service manual for the KDT-99R Kenwood Car
DAT deck.
It's yours for the asking, though I remember the ROYAL PAIN THE BUTT it
was to acquire...
If you want it.. it's yours, just pay 3 day fedex letter shipping (less
then $10 I think) and it MUST be via PayPal.
Again, free, but if you wanted to kick in a few extra bucks into the
PayPal account, that would be okay too. :-)
Just ask, and it's yours.

I swear to god this is not a joke - when I used to gather sound for radio
news, we routinely used a dry condom over the end of the mike (no reservoir
tip) if the mic was big enough... Amazing results in high wind
situations...
