I highly recommend you have a look at the D7/D8 Resource Page, which has
tons of interesting and useful information. It can be found here:
http://www.rockpark.com/d7/
More specifically for the *tape eating* problem, look at this:
http://www.rockpark.com/d7/8_sandhd.txt
Alexander Chin (the author of the above) is great guy, who has helped me
several times, and he seems to know his stuff.
From my discussions with him, eaten tapes can often be traced to sticky
(over-smooth/polished/worn) heads. His solution is to sand the head with
very fine sand-paper, and/or paint the capstan with glossy enamel paint (to
give it more friction/traction than the worn head).
Good luck!

Howdy y'all -
I'm selling my M300's - they are cosmetically in great
shape and make really nice tapes. They were purchased
about six months ago from Sonic Sense, at which time
they were checked out and given a thumbs up by Marc.
The reason I'm selling them is that I'd like to
upgrade to a pair of Neumanns.
Thanks!

Personally, I ran CD-Identifier n the TDK Taiwanese CD-R's. They
reported as made by Ritek. I expect they should be the same as other
Ritek Media. Personally, I expect them to perform like any other Ritek
Media. I won't accept them in trade, buy them, or guarantee the results
if I burn them for a B+P. I've had prblems with some a few yeas ago, and
I have mre than one burnerr, and theee is nothing but Plextor SCSI
drives in my place. I personally buy nothing but TY or media
manufactued by TY, and have very good success rate'ss with it. I look
for something that works and once I find it, I don't mess witth it.

I got a nice DAT of Pat Travers at the Cactus Moon Blues Cafe, Humble TX
9-13-02.
Was taped with Core Sound Binaurals to D100 and came out really nice. Has
unusual high end for the core sound mics. I was positioned directly in line
with Pat's amp and the PA so vocals and guitar are both clear.
Runs 90 mins.
Can trade on 90 min dat, or 2 CDRs if you prefer.
Would like to trade for more Pat Travers, Rainbow, Gary Moore and Ian Moore
(that I dont have), if possible.
drop me a line!

Got the Gorge show ( Nak CM-300"s>D8 lowest tier/edge of lawn, 15 feet left
of center) but I saw they ran metal detectors here in Portland so I
chickened out just before going in the main entrance. Got rid of my
equipment, then proceeded to walk in untouched at the side entrance.
NOTE ON METAL DETECTORS: SOMETIMES IT"S RANDOM!!!!!!
It looked like they were hitting everyone at the main entrance so I bailed
but it was random elsewhere so explore your options.
I really would like to get a copy of the Portland show on either DAT or CD,
please contact me if you can help.
As far as the Gorge, I'll do as many B&P's as I can handle so long as you're
not in a big hurry or take a look at my WANT list @
http://phishhook.yi.org/lists/ODJubilee
maybe we can set up a trade. Thanks ya'll, Chris

If you can swing the cost of a high-end setup for the duration of
the LP transfer project, you may be able to recoup much of that by
selling it once you're done. Obviously, you'll need to check out
the market for various setups, but I'd imagine there'd be little
depreciation over a few months for a used high-end turntable/
tonearm/cartridge setup.

Have a PC with C-Media CMI8738-MX chipset which
supports S/PDIF in and out. Drivers from the MB
manufacturer (Soyo) installed fine and got digital
audio in from a DAT fairly quickly. But on playback,
surprise, the resultant .WAV file has
crackles/pops/etc. I've been poking around the apps
included with the MB as well as in WinXP looking for
any settings to tweak (DMA, buffer size, whatever I can
find) but can't find much of anything. Has anyone out
there set up anything similar? Looking for any
input/ideas/clues.
Thanks

I found a complete setup (Dynakit ST-70, PAS preamp and Dyna FM tuner, all
tube units) at a Salvation Army in '95. They were inside of a large 60's-era
stereo cabinet the size of a couch. They were asking $20 for the cabinet. I
told them I wasn't interested in the cabinet, just what was inside of it.
The guy said "you'll still give us $20, right?", I said "Uh, OK".. Works
great! I use it in the winter when the heat is a good thing for my cold
apartment, and in the summer, I use a Luxman R-3055 that I picked up at the
Les Turner ALS Mammoth Music Mart for $100. I wish I had more time and money
to go to more garage sales and flea markets..

i've got a few older turntables( none are real low end crap) with various

no model numbers, so i cant look up specs. assuming i set them up right( i
