From: Keith Bode <t.tunakebo@verizon.net> Subject: TY media identificatin Date: Tue, 17 Sep 2002 20:16:24 -0700 Identifying TY media isn't that hard. All the Fuji Film 80 minute media in the blue packagess has been TY manufactured. All the HP media I've seen has been TY manufactured. Some TDK media is, but only the media that says Made in Japan in microscopic letters. If the Microscopic letters say made in Taiwan on TDK media it is usually made by Ritek. Other than that, the packaging is identical. The vast majority of TDK media is made in Taiwan, and not TY. If you can get the little screw on cap off the spindle and see the center of he disc; if it's clear, it's not TY media. IMO, the Taiwanese TDK media, is the same as generic Comp USA media. One dead giveaway. All the TY media I've ever seen is white, or opaque, or snowy, or any number of words, I prefer opaque. To my knowledge, all TY media does not have a clear center. From: SCHUBIDOO@aol.com Subject: ISO:Dylan April 30 and Oct 24 1991 missing mystery shows Date: Tue, 17 Sep 2002 23:57:13 EDT I'm on a treasure hunt. Thought you friends here might be a good place to look for more info. Did anybody go to, or tape, or know of a tape of the following Bob Dylan shows? April 30, 1991 Savannah, Ga, Civic Center, Johnny Mercer center October 24, 1991 Corpus Christi, Tx, Bay Front Auditorium I've gotten the following clues forwarded to me: >>The strange thing about these two (relatively recent) shows is that there seems to be no details; Helyin, Dundas & Olof all have completely blank listings. April 30, 1991 Savannah, Telegraph (#42) adds it with a note " a gig that only came to light well after the event". Huh? TWM 2064 (in ISIS 37) mentions the possibility of a Savannah show but in TWM 2074 lists a show on 30 April 91 as Columbus, GA with a note to say "NO SHOW TOOK PLACE". This could of course mean that no show at Columbus took place, so the one in Savannah could have taken place. Did this show really happen? October 24, 1991 This show seems more definite, with it being listed consistently in all the reference books. The only trouble is that there are no details given. Does anybody have any details at all? Even press reviews would be something. Surely there were 10 thousand or so fans who went to this show and they must know something!!! It was only 11 years ago after all.<< Please reply to me at SCHUBIDOO@aol.com if you have any info. From: Jason & Monique Riggs <mkwilson@iquest.net> Subject: Re: JamGrass taping Reply-To: mkwilson@iquest.net Date: Tue, 17 Sep 2002 22:56:43 -0500 Eric wrote >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Be advised: at the Marin show the volume was ridiculously low!!! You'll really want to get as close to the stacks as possible (within reason). I setup right at the SBD, and I could hear the soundguys chatting (without having to raise their voices) throughout the show over the music. On top of that, twice per set someone walked up and told the soundguys to turn it up... but they wouldn't. I think they had the attitude that if people ain't gonna be quiet, then they ain't gonna hear the music. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> JamGrass in Indianapolis was extremely low volume also.... Until we went up to the balcony and then it was extremely loud!!! Come to find out it was soooo loud up there before we went, that people went down and told the sound guys to turn it down. So it got even quieter before we went up. So up is the key to a good tape. Depending on the venue of course. Jason

From: Sam Upton <sam.upton@verizon.net> Subject: Mac i-book for recording? Date: Wed, 18 Sep 2002 18:13:17 -0400 I left the Apple world years ago when I finally gave up on my wonderful Appel ][GS, so I am really unfamiliar with the Macs of today, but I am sick of Bill Gates' products & I would like to try recording with a lap-top. The iMac is fairly reasonable, is it well suited for that? I know Mac has always been ahead of the PC world in the past when it comes to multi-media. Anyway, would I be substantially better off with a Powerbook? Should I just stick with a PC notebook? Please reply to this message *privately* at: clancey420@netzero.net Any and all comments appreciated, both pro and con.
