I'm searching for anyone who might have taped any 2002 Tragically Hip shows
(they're on tour still so if you can, tape them!), or if you buy some chance
have some old gems sitting in a shoebox somewhere that'd you like to get
out..
thanks

I experienced some technical difficulties with my rig
and did not get the drum solo. I'm hoping some kind
taper of this show will help me out by offering a
trade for their tape of the show. I'm not collecting
the tour, I'd just like a complete archive of a very
nice evening. I've got access to a few tapes from
this tour and a large list of other stuff. Please
contact me if interested. CDR's are ok, too.
BTW - I'd love to get a copy of the Chicago show for a
freind, as well.
Thanks,
Chris

I have a pair of Coresound binaural microphones and a Sound Professionals
Slimline Battery Module that I no longer need. Both pieces of equipment are
practically brand new (only used 3 times). I'd like to see these get some
use, and since I no longer have a portable DAT recorder or the desire to
tape I thought I would offer them up on here before listing them for
auction.
Details on the mics:
http://www.core-sound.com//lcmics.html
(the ones I am offering are binarual, not cardioid. These are the ideal
mics for beginners since you are almost guarenteed a great tape!)
Details on the battery box (needed to power the mics):
http://www.soundprofessionals.com/cgi-bin/gold/category.cgi?category=310&item=SP-SPSB-1&type=store
(The one I am offering has the bass rolloff option which is an absolute must
for recording live music, otherwise your tapes will be over-saturated with
bass).
I paid about $160 for this rig. It's your's for $110 + shipping (you choose
the method). Paypal only please.
Thanks,
Rob

This rule sux. Yeah, I understand they want mics behind or next to the =
board. FOBers usually keep them head level anyway. But this rule is very =
similar to what happened last time Other Ones toured. I had to sneak my =
deck into the Continental Arena and then sneak it into the tapers =
section so I could be patched in. All because I was shut out of a =
taper's ticket. The other alternative was to give my deck to a taper =
waiting on line to get in and who has a taper's ticket but I was =
reluctant to do this because they had enough to worry about. All this is =
going to accomplish is a much slower trickle of the music after the =
shows. We'll be trading these shows well into Spring 2003.
I agree - ABB & SKB & JS and others are the taper friendly bands. No =
special tickets or secret handshake is needed. TOO should put the live =
shows onsale for charity like the Who did this summer to cut down on =
unathorized taping, IMO.

Subject: FS: Nak MX-100 DC Battery Pack Conversion
Date: Thu, 19 Sep 2002 05:18:49 -0700
ATTENTION NAKAMICHI MX-100 Owners: I can provide conversions for any
Nakamichi MX-100 three channel pre-amp/mixer to allow it to accept +/-9V DC
power pack. This modification does not alter the MX-100 wiring scheme at all
and is wired exactly to Nakamichi specifications to provide both +9V DC and-
9V DC (originally it was designed to run off of the PS-100 using +/-10V DC,
but Nakamichi tech. department has provided wiring info & OK to use 9V DC
power source for field recording. Also included in the conversion is a neat,
light weight 9V DC power pack that connects to the MX-100 via a small 4 pin
DINN connector. It powers the MX-100 in the field via (2) standard alkaline
9V cells for approx. 5~6hrs!! Conversion and DC power pack is very
reasonably priced; only $35!! Why spend awad of cash for the 9.6V DC lithium
pack & charger (like those sold for RC applications) when you can have a
pack that provides both + &- voltage for a fraction of the price!! Price
includes converting your own MX-100 to use the DC pack and one DC power pack
. Money back guarantee. Additional DC power packs available for purchase
($15). Requires sending your MX-100 to me for wiring conversion (no
alterations to chassis or circuit board required)!! This conversion looks
and performs very professionally. Email me for details and pictures of my DC
pack and wiring conversion!

Ever since the Dead formalized a tapers' section in the mid-80's
this has always been their position on it (i.e. taping is only
allowed from the tapers' section and only with a taper's ticket).
I don't know what your surprised about.

I went to the State Theatre in Falls Church last night and saw Rod
Argent Colin Blunstone doing Zombies and solo material. It was an
amazing show, 2 hours long. The band was fantastic and had the bass
player from the Kinks and his son on drums and an excellent lead guitar
player who's name I can't recall. Unfortunately for the first time in
years, I came back home and the DAT was totally blank. So, I'm
groveling for tapes from their first US tour since 1965, especially
last night's show. I have 2002 Stones and other goodies to offer.

While I agree that the comment was pretty irrelevent*, what
he is picking up on is the contradiction between the band
and the organization. "Once I play it the music is free..."
... "here are the rules..." In practice this meant "BGP
stormtroopers" (not my words and I believe there is someone
who works for BGP and is not such, on the list, so please just
take this in context) disrupting 120 people on the floor enjoying
a show just because of bad blood with one taper they wanted to
chase/harass. The tapers certainly didn't disrupt so many people1
The Allmans organization definately embodies the spirit
of what the band says, more than several other organizations,
but those have also had to deal with a completely different
scene. For some reason, too, I think the Allmans fans
that worked for them in management remained "fans" more than
with other bands.
My personal opinion is that by having rules just for
the sake of rules, the bands create more of a problem.
The tapers sections have more problems of overflowing,
people bringing in others gear... than upfront. And
the problems upfront, are more basic "don't take someone
else's seat." However, if you teach and emphasize good
behavior other tapers tend to reinforce that to one-another.
But rules, people always want to get around... and if
not enforced for a long time, they become a problem.
I had this debate with people who setup such policies for
another band, trying to encourage good behavior over
restrictions... and dealing with the upfront issue as
a reality first. They didn't see it that way... thought
they could do better than the GD, and didn't.
I do think that the Allmans and maybe even Dave Matthews
have done a lot better. However, taping at those shows
is not on a similar scale and I do not believe there is
anyway to put this into practice. It would be interesting
to see -- I think tapers are better organized and connected
than "GDTSTOO..." (who has put together setlists...) --
someone take advantage of those networks to have a dialogue
with tapers instead of just penning them in like livestock.
* Although I got pulled into this (the topic has some value), I
do think the comment was irrelevent because if you think
you have the (...) to tape upfront -- big deal if you gotta
stealth it. Why are tapers so afraid of doing this? I would
rather stealth or not do it, the tapers section has to many
annoying people in it to enjoy a show... people like me. :-)

Subject: Phantom-Power Turn-On
Date: Fri, 20 Sep 2002 20:11:31 +0200
Hy Winnie,
here is the answer:
Turn the power on AFTER the microphone is connected to the cable
(XLR-cable usually). Turn it OFF before the mic is removed away from the
cable.
The phantom power must be switched on for phantom powered mics (48
volts).
These mics have usually a symmetrical plug to the cable (XLR-plug) for
each channel. You can also switch it on if you have another mic with
symmetrical connnection (Shure SM 58, ...).
Attention: DO NOT switch the phantom power on for unsymmetrically
connected mics. If the mics have a XLR-plug, you can usually switch the
p.power on.
What mics do you use ??
