This is my favorite one of these (I had 3 at one point).
The heads on this unit were replaced ~1.5 yearz ago
and has been used rarely since.
It has been sent to Sony for preventive maintenance
(aka: clean heads/check parts) several times in its
lifetime (I bought this one new ? yearz ago))
It has the mini adaptor at the remote (plugging in
"normal" earphones to the remote). It also comes
with a wal-wart (special wattage for this unit).
It comes in original box...
I will take the best offer and I am a motivated seller
(but I am not desparate).
Email me if you are interested!
Thanks

These DDS-2 tape drives can read and write audio DATs. They
have been sold as Archive/Conner/Seagate drives with the
model names of Python 4326/CTD8000/Peregrine. They come with
mounting rails and a faceplate that result in a 5 1/4 inch form
factor for mounting in a standard drive bay. They are SCSI
drives with the older 50-pin interface. These drives are used
but are in working condition.
They have the 01931-XXX 5AC firmware, which allows them to read
and write audio DATS at more than double speed using the dat2wav
or vdat packages. They are excellent for getting audio from a
DAT onto your hard drive, with .wav files broken up by start ID,
a perfect solution for converting to CD-R. Because they operate
at double speed, they are also excellent for cloning.
Price of $80 includes insured shipping in the continental U.S. by
UPS Ground or equivalent. If you are elsewhere or prefer another
mode of shipping, please inquire. Payment by PayPal, postal money
order or cashier's check. Email audiocapable@earthlink.net with
questions or orders.
Also available: The same drive in an external configuration. Original
Seagate drive case, power and SCSI cable included, $100 shipped.

The owner of the El Rey theatre in Los Angeles charged some guy $1000 to
tape Chris Robinson's show on 8/19/02. I, of course, stealthed so didn't
have to pay. People made donations to the taper (with Chris Robinson and
Marc Ford's blessing) so he could recoup some of the money.

could this be caused by the tape not loading correctly, i once got a blank dat when the A-Time counted off fine,, i was in a rush and it is possible that i hit some buttons too fast, i know i checked the time and levels thoroughly once up and running,, is it possible to have the time count down like you'd expect and yet still not have the tape loaded correctly to the heads,, i was using a D8

You ever confront a clutch of union guys going about their business? In the
1970s? When you had long hair? And through cement shoes were déclassé? I
think not. :)
The audience got the show. Theirs was mainly to make a point that the Rules
Were Not Being Followed. Somebody from the festival ran out and got a box
of those quick-release plugs, and we were back in business before the show
opened.

We had taper tickets for that show(actually i did not but it worked out ok) so
taping was cleared before tickets could go on sale. Who knows what effort went
into that. Tapers even got in early to setup.
As for that night, I was setting up the patch bay for the SBD feed. JonO had
gotten special permission from the band to set up because of Jerry's B-Day. 2
minutes before the band took the stage, the union guy came along, saw the
cabling and had it yanked. The story circulated that night that the union guy
demanded a $10,000 check on the spot. Twas quite a little panic to swap the
patch bay back over to a microphone rig. Got to love backup plans.

common questions:
-it is the jb3, not the original jb that i'm talking about
-it can not, and will not ever play shn/flac/ape/24 bit files, tho it can
store them
-it may support lossless WMA9 in the future
-records wavs for 5 1/2 hours on internal batteries, plays back
substantially longer
-has line in and optical in, coax is not possible

Hi all,
Without taking any side of the current debate, I would only add that I know
from experience that the union and/or venue recording fees being mentioned at
Town Hall and other NYC venues are not unusual and various degrees of this
goes on in many venues all over the United States. It's also common practice
in European venues and probably elsewhere.
I suspect The Grateful Dead likely paid the required fees at Madison Square
Garden, Radio City, etc. for the ability to proffesionally record themselves
and to later allow a taping section, but never felt the need to publicize it.
I would also venture to say that these often substantial recording fees are a
primary factor to be considered when an artist reaches a modest success level
and considers an open taping policy. It goes a long way toward understanding
why many essentially "taper friendly" bands or artists, especially higher
profile ones, may perceive "stealth only/no policy at all" as the most taper
friendly they can be. Alan

If you're talking about the 8/1/01 show, audience taping was allowed as usual.
While everyone was setting up, a matrix feed got run from the board back
into the front of the section. Unfortunately, it got spotted just before
the show started and got pulled.
They're pretty hard-assed about board tapes at the LA Greek, even for
the band itself, but audience taping is allowed on occasion.

The general rule is, you do your job, you get paid. Should a waiter
be paid thousands of dollars because Stephen King's agent negotiated
the advance for his next book over a dinner he served?

That's true whether or not it gets taped, so why should they get more
money because somebody else does something they might not even know

IMO, in studying American History, the advent of the Labor Unions
established a vast middle class. In the disenfranchisement of the Labor
Unions over the last 20 to 40 years, the concentration of wealth has
canged, the middle class has gotten porer, the poor have definitely
gotten poorer, and the rich have gotten richer. Now there is still a
vast middle class, but it is shrinking some, and the adjusted income
levels haave fallen over the last 20 years, since the Air Traffic
Controlers Union was broken by a "great" ex president, aand many other
unions have had their power lifted. From my perspective, if there
weren't unions, the guy who had the $800 to spend on recording Hornsby
and Kimmock, wouldn't have had tht, his taping gear, or the car he rode
in to get there, if it weren't for the unions in the first place.

i spoke with Apogee a while back about getting an AD1000 repaired, , and
was told that minimum price would be $400-$600, maybe more. and usually
they cant give a real quote till after the service has been done. The
state that the units are a hige pain in the ass to work on, and they dont
really even want to do repairs on them, and thats why they are offeering
the Mini-Me at such a low price, etc. I asked about an upgrade program
and was told nothing of the sort was in the works.
Last week I called again, and gary in service mention they were
considering an upgrade program cause they really want to get the AD1000's
off the streets because they are so hard to repair. Today I called and
spoke to Apogee Sales, and was told that after they fill the backorders
they currently have (aprox 30 days), they will probably finalize the
upgrade/exchange program for the AD-1000 to Mini-Me.
