Rumor has it the Lunatec V3's should be shipping soon...so time for
out with the old (and hoping the new doesn't take as long to arrive
as a minime).
I'm selling my MP2 mic preamp which I got new last August from Marc at Sonic
Sense. Excellent condition and working perfectly--no problems with it at
all. It sounds very nice, a great way to get into that transformer sound
for not too much money. Anyone not familiar with it drop me a line and I'll
tell you about it. But it's got all the bells and whistles: selectable 15v
or 48v phantom power, separate L-R continuous gain (6-66db gain range),
Lundahl input transformers, dual outputs (1/8" stereo and XLR), 2-position
high pass filtering (none, 80Hz, or 160Hz), mic input limiter option, very
nice 7-segment output meters, MS decoding, high-output headphone output,
etc. Runs for about 3 hours on 2 AA batteries or can be used with a 5V to
14V DC external battery. Looking to get $525.
I'll also be selling my modified SBM1, but I've been planning on holding
onto that for a little bit so I can do comparisons of the V3's A/D section
to the modSBM1. If anyone is interested in both the MP2 preamp and the
modSBM1 converter, drop me a line--I can probably be persuaded to part with
the SBM1 sooner rather than later.
I've got plenty of tapes (Neumann km184>mp2>modSBM1) if anyone wants to hear
how this set-up sounds.
-Todd
BWT: I'll take a few for a b+p of Phil at Red Rocks on either 8/31 or
9/1/02--your choice. Neumann km184>mp2>modSBM1>D100, 2x60m or 1x90m.
PS. I've also got a Sony 7-pin in/out cable and a Marantz pro standalone CD
recorder up for auction if anyone is interested:

I taped the Rush show at Staples Center in L.A. on Monday. BTW, thanks
for all the tips folks gave me for getting past the metal detectors.
That was the least of my problems. All seemingly went fine during
recording. During the intermission, I rewound a little bit to make sure
I had good playback levels from the first set. All visually seemed fine.
After the second set, I rewound that back a bit and much to my surprize
I had a constant level of about 12 with absolutely no fluctations. When
I got home, I listened to the tape and my fears were pretty much
realized...the 2nd set was pure diginoise. The first set, however played
Ok. About 40 min into the first set. I noticed some diginoise creeping
into the playback. I stopped the tape, and replayed the section and it
sounded fine. I then rewound it completely so I could dump it to my hard
drive. Well, now every time I play the previously OK 1st set, I get
massive diginoise. Every time! Same when I play it on my other DAT deck.
Any clue as to why this was able to be played once, but not again? Other
tapes play fine on the original deck. Is it possible that the tape
shedded? It is a new Sony DG90P. I've used some other tapes from this
batch with no probs. I have run the dry head cleaning tape a couple of
times with no improvements. Any suggestions? Any ideas as to wether or
not I can ever get this tape to play OK again?
Thanks!
Darryl

Subject: I.S.O. Hirth Martinez
Date: Thu, 26 Sep 2002 19:36:09 -0400
Back in the mid-70's, a fairly unknown artist by the name of HIRTH MARTINEZ released 2 solo albums on Warner Brothers....one called "Hirth From Earth" (produced by Robbie Robertson, and featured such musicians as Garth Hudson, Robbie Robertson, Russ Kunkel, Chuck Rainey, Ben Keith etc....and an album called "Big Bright Street", which featured such artists as Steve Gadd, Jim Keltner, Ron Carter, Dr. John, Garth Hudson, and more). His music is amazing!
Now that I have your attention, I am on the hunt for possible live recordings by Hirth. I am not sure if he ever toured in the 70's, but I know for sure he performed a few live dates (or maybe more) in April of 1999 in Tokyo, and in February of 2000 at Parsons Green in Culver City, CA. There is a pretty rare commerical import from Japan taken from those performances.
So, if you, or anyone you know has a line on live Hirth shows, please drop me a line.
I have 2,839 superior quality entries on my list for easy trades. Thanks very much for your help!

bring along condoms to cover the mics : )....Anywho, if there is someone
who could help me out with Jorma's, Pete's and Dave's sets, it would be

Also, I'm in search of the kind sole who sent me Macca Philly on two
