Included in the band are 2 drummers, percussionist, bass, 2 guitarists' and a person on sound effects, bass loops, samples etc. This is total improv done on the fly every night. 1 80 minute disc. I'll take 5. (by the way, Anthony Cole is the drummer for jazz great Sam Rivers) Sorry to all of those who got shut out on the James Brown offer. I was swamped with requests for that show. Upon listening to the tapes after the post, they aren't that great anyway. In my early days of collecting, before I knew of the taping community, I amassed a small collection of Pearl Jam stuff that I very, very rarely listen to. It's about time that I gave the CDrs to someone that can make use of them. I am asking 1 blank CDr in return for every disc that I send out. Here are the "commercial" names of the concerts that I have for trade (all Pearl Jam): Le Zenith (2 discs) Live In Hartford (2) No Avail (2) New Songs II (1) And the Pearls Sweep (2) Home (2) Seattle 09-16-1996 (2) DJ Eddie at the Mic (1) Bridge Benefit, October 1&2 1994 (1) More Fuckin' Messiah (1) Circles (1) The Versus Sessions (1) [Disc of bootleg scans for some of the above boots (1)] All discs are Maxell Gold. I've tested most of them for DAO extraction and have had 100% quality rips in EAC for each one. These discs are in A-1 shape. Email me offline if you are interested in these puppies. - Vince _________________________________________________________________ Chat with friends online, try MSN Messenger: http://messenger.msn.com ------------------------------ From: Jim Subject: RE: Off topic, concert tickets, staying home and gate crashing Date: Sun, 29 Sep 2002 14:39:01 -0400 Keith Bode wrote: >How the hell does going to a concert without a ticket equate to gate >crashing, and why should I stay home if I don't have a ticket? Adam ------------------------------ From: acffh Subject: Re: DAT-heads Digest #490- re: dead rong / the band's request Date: Sun, 29 Sep 2002 14:35:10 -0500 subject: going to a show without a ticket There used to be a band called the Grateful Dead, and in their heyday, they could attract more people than many venues could hold. Once upon a time in the mid 1980's, the "Dead" (as they were known) had a song called "Touch of Grey". This song became popular as a result of Radio and Music Video airplay. The Dead had never had a HIT SINGLE before. As time went by, and more new fans started coming to the shows, (which were already crowded) it became harder and harder to get tickets to some venues. People who had previously been able to make their decision to attend at the last moment would be subject to much more difficulty in their search for the "extra" or "miracle ticket" that they desired. As this continued, it became clear to the band that ticketless fans outside of some of their venues were causing problems in the surrounding communities. Kids would show up for the legendary parking lot parties, in excess of the number of patrons allowed inside, and sometimes their behavior did not sit well with the venues' neighbors. Trespassing, public urination, underage alcohol consumption were common on the list of complaints. The band realized that if their way of life was to continue then they would have to get the fans to cooperate, and behave themselves. The Dead's ticket office would send messages with mail-order tickets reminding people to make sure that anyone without a ticket TO A SOLD-OUT SHOW would be causing problems for the band, and could jeopardize the band's ability to be booked subsequently in that market. They even went so far as to say "PLEASE DO NOT COME TO A SOLD-OUT SHOW WITHOUT A TICKET" directly to as many fans as possible, so that they might continue to spead their vibe across the land. Suffice to say it didn't really work, and the final dead shows were marred by threats against Garcia and lots of very weird energy. I'm sure anyone who is sober would never run afoul of these rules, Likewise if anyone with poor taste would want to be caught without a ticket and discovered in central tennessee. . . would I care?? Personally I thought Bonnaroo looked like it could be the biggest jail in the south this summer . Wookies may feel free to show up without tickets and PO the neighb's. . . Then everyone won't have one to go to next summer. -tom WOB tax (what the heck does this post have to do with DAT anyhow? almost nothing!) Date: Sun, 29 Sep 2002 13:16:41 -0700 (PDT) I've been thinking about buying one of these little devices, but I would like to hear from others who have one and read what you have to think? They have only been out for about a month... so, is it too soon to ask...? Also, when I record shows, I use a DA-P1 w/ an Eco-Charge system. I've heard that it isn't a good idea to run the D1-P1 w/ a pre-amp using the same battery charge. Besides the drain on the battery, is there another reason? Also, is this pre-amp good for a portable DAT like the D-100? Last question, I'm looking into buying a pre-amp and I was thinking abot the V2, but then the V3 came-out and then there is the mini-me, can someone give me some solid adivce on what I should buy...? I record a variety of things from live music concerts (rock, punk, contemporary, classical, etc...) to enviromental sounds, home recordings, to stage performance plays and theatres, etc... Now, I only do this to feed my own personal obbsession. And when I record something that I like with equipment that I know how to work and is a reliably good piece of equipment... the endorphines kick in and... well, all you tapers know what i'm saying :P! ( Is anyone else here as obsessed with taping as I am ?:) I am not "in the business" but love to record and remaster sound. Also, I'm willing to pay a good price for a pre-amp, but I would prefer to pay less for an item that can do most of the the things that a high end item could do. In between, the difference between 20,000 people with tickets showing up and going to the show, and them plus 10,000 people without tickets hanging around the parking lot, hassling passers-by, and otherwise making nuisances of themselves (even if just by forcing people with tickets to park some distance away by filling the lots) is noticeable. Any one person likely isn't a problem. It's the numbers that are." Seth I can see where having people out in the boonies, like Alpine Valley, where it is a remote area, and it's a one time concert or 2, that is a problem. Anyone who thought that they'd be able t buy a ticket, was not to swift, the people who had ticktets, wer far less likely t sell their tickets, No one is going to trek all the way out to Alpine Valley without half a brain r less, withut a ticket. That was an exceptional circumstance, but on a day in day out basis, not going to a concert simply because yu don't have a ticket, and planned to buy one. About 7 years ago, I had asked my siser who was playing in SF NYE. She didn't check for me, and I got up tere and found Hot Tuna was playin at the Fillmoe. I drove down t the Fillmore, aand tried t buy a ticket, no luck so I drove back t my fathers house. If there had been sme stupid people trying to rush the gate, I wouldn't have joined. I think this entire point is irrelevant to this list. If there are any members of this list who have crased gates, gone to shws ticketless to buy tickets, and have either done something obnoxious, or have gone t a shw ticketles and bought tickets, I'd like to hear from the gate crashers particularly. I have used the Nomad 3 to record two shows since I got it last month. My set-up for the past four years has been Nak 300 cardioids->SBM-1->Sony D-8 DAT@44.1K. I used the Sony POC-DA12 seven-pin optical cable on the SBM-1 to simultaneously record via SP/DIF to the Nomad 3. I used the D-8 to set levels. Here are my observations: 1. The DAT and Nomad 3 recordings sound identical to my ear. I am sure there are sophisticated ways to compare the two, but I don't have the expertise to do so. I would be happy to send two comparison discs to anyone willing to report back to DAT-heads. 2. The Nomad 3 comes with a single rechargeable LiMH battery that supposedly will get you 11 hours of MP3 playback. I have estimated that you will get 4 to 5 hours of .wav recording. Be sure to get the second battery pack (about $35). I haven't checked yet, but I assume you can get 8 to 10 hours from the double battery set-up. 3. The three biggest problems with the unit were no easy way to "lock' the buttons, no level meters, and no gain control. As Jamie indicated in his post, the most recent firmware update fixes all three. 4. The Nomad 3 is restricted to a file size of 2GB, about three hours of recording without stopping the recording and starting a new file. As I have only had one instance of a band playing over three hours without a set-break, this isn't a big problem. The total disc space is 20GB and there is a Nomad 3 coming out with 30GB. 5. A two and a half hour show transferred to my home computer in a few minutes via the Firewire (1394) interface. It has a slower USB 1.0 connection as well. 6. Used along with a Midi-man CO2, this may become the patchers deck of choice; no tapes/discs to flip, no batteries to change.
