Reply-To: thatdamnguy@angelfire.com Date: Sun, 29 Sep 2002 16:11:08 -0700 I am sorry to send out what many would call spam, but this directly affects me and many of my friends as broadcasters ... and even more as fans of Internet broadcasts. Sorry if you have received duplicates of this message. Now my station on live365.com plays 99% Sound Tribe Sector 9 which I am fully authorized to broadcast. The other 1% is generally music that I myself have recorded thanks to the great kindness of bands who allow us to both tape and trade their performances. Even though what I am doing has NOTHING to do with what all the hoopla the RIAA is bitching about my broadcast is being lumped in with all the rest. My point is this, even if you agree with some sort of legislation protecting the artists (and the labels hiding in the shadows) the fact is the blanket laws being worked out right now do not make sense. If nothing more, look to the example of my broadcast which is endorsed by the band whom are independent of major labels... and is being penalized in order to protect the major labels. Does that seem fair?!?!? If you listen to even a few minutes of independent Internet broadcasts a year, please take the time to read what follows and do your part! Thanks for your time, and lets keep the power with the people! <Begin post> Yesterday, the "Relief for Small Business Webcasters" bill was introduced into the U.S. House of Representatives. This bill calls for a six month stay on the DSRP royalty rates. This is HUGE, in that it permits an opportunity for Congress or the courts to remedy the unfair royalty. But we must act quickly. Because without it, Independent Webcasting will be bankrupted and silenced. Please call your U.S. Representatives anytime before September 30, 2002. (Over the weekend is fine. Leave a message if they're not there.) Tell them your name, that you live in their district, and ask them to "support H.R. 5469 in Tuesday's vote." ========================================================== CONTACT CONGRESS ========================================================== This link provides more information for contacting your U.S. Representative. http://www.live365.com/carp/hr5469.html ========================================================== FORWARD THIS EMAIL to mailing lists, friends, others.... ========================================================== Thank you for your urgent attention to this matter. We have until Monday, September 30 to take advantage of this opportunity. The fate of Independent Webcasting is truly in the balance. kind regards, betty ray senior editor P.S. From: "James G. Lykos" <jlykos@nc.rr.com> Subject: FS: Graham Patten ADC-20 and 3' Zoalla XLRs Date: Sun, 29 Sep 2002 19:20:50 -0400 Hello, I am selling my Graham Patten ADC-20. It is a 20-bit A/D converter and sounds nice. You must have a preamp for it, though, as it does not provide too much gain. Mics > power supply > ADC-20 will NOT work. It is the 44.1 version and can output a consumer signal so it can be used with any type of DAT deck. It runs off a 6v battery and has XLR inputs. I am the second owner, having used it for a few months now. The ADC-20 comes with the instruction manual, two Eco-charge power cords, and an AES to RCA coaxial adapter so you can use a standard RCA connected digital cable with it. I used an MP-2 with it so it is already correctly calibrated for use with an MP-2. Asking for $300 for the ADC-20 postpaid. I am also selling a pair of Zaolla 3' XLR cables. They are silver and are the best cables that I have ever used in my taping rig. They sound really, really sweet and are very transparent. Asking $75 for the pair of Zaolla XLRs, plus shipping. Please e-mail back if interested in any of these items. I can send you CDs if interested in hearing either of these items. --Jamie Lykos jlykos@nc.rr.com

Last I heard they were slated to ship this past Friday, 9-27-2002. So, I'm sure there are a lot of folks anxious to hear how this thing sounds. I'm seriously considering picking one up, but I'm probably going to wait to see how the ADC sounds first. -tim __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? I have an NT4.0 SP6 SERVER, which operate beautifully in the daytime, so I don' t want to mess anything up. It has a LACIE B24GS E6M DAT attached, on ID 4, SCSI 2, UN#0, and it works fine for backups with SONY SDT9000 driver, FWR 0400. I need to transcribe some audio DAT taper, LP 32KHz, and don't wan't to mess up things in the server. I intend to use DAT2WAV. I ran ASPICHK and it reports that no ASPI is installed. Can anybody helo me install the right ASPI driver with reasonable chances not to damage the backup operation ? Anybody can help me with information ? Thanks, Mike

While the majority of you are probably just capturing S/PDIF signals with your computers, some of you may be trying to send digital signals out of Windows 2000 machines, and by the looks of the reply I got, this is a totally flawed practice. This leads me to 2 questions - is there an alternative to the k-mixer that I can force into W2K? B/C there's no way I'm upgrading to XP... Alternatively, what is the best freeware recording program for Linux? Is there a linux distribution that is preferable for doing harddrive recording? > The problem you are experiencing is the Windows Kernal Mixer resampling > the wav before it passes it through the DIO card. I believe they stopped being posted or indexed on the web site around 9/16. This has happened before and is always corrected pretty promptly. I will find out. The web site is managed separately, and although its well managed, there is no way for me to tell what is going on when something happens. Sean PS There are a lot of people with questions about errors posting -- you need to post plain text. I should be able to get to your messages, but wanted to mention that the error message describes the problem and mentions that an email to dat-heads-help@datheads.phish.net will provide suggestions for several platforms. Post AOL 4.0 users may have to use AOL's web interface to send plain-text messages. But is easier and quicker for all of us to try those suggestions before contacting dat-heads-owner.
From: "Jamie Lutch" <jlutch@altairinc.com> Subject: Nomad JB3 Recording problems Date: Mon, 30 Sep 2002 09:01:31 -0700 OK, after 20 or so successful recordings with the jukebox, I ran across some trouble this weekend. I have continued to test this alongside my laptop when transferring, for peace of mind. I did about 10 recordings this weekend. The first 4 or 5 were flawless, but then I started to get drops/diginoise in the last 5 or 6 I did. These are atypical of what I saw with the old firmware, rather they appear as glitches or signal dropouts, as opposed to dropped samples I've gotten back in touch with the engineers and am working on it. From my best guess, there may be some trick to making it work correctly at this point. My testing in the past was flawless with an extremely fragmented drive, but for some reason, I am getting errors in the middle of a non-fragmented drive(fresh from format, only large wavs recorded on it). I'll keep you all posted, sorry if I jumped the gun (but geez, youd think if it could do it 20 times in a row on a badly fragmented drive, it would be valid proof. I guess there's still some ghosts in the machine) Sorry if I led anybody astray, my experience with creative has been pretty positive to this point, I do have faith that they will resolve it. One thing I forgot to mention, if you pick up one of these, make sure you get an extended warranty for it. best buy and buy.com both offer them, and it only comes with a paltry 90 day warranty (mine died after 60 days). -Jamie --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free.
