From: <sloansimpson@mindspring.com> Subject: U2A in XP Help? Reply-To: sloansimpson@mindspring.com Date: Sun, 06 Oct 2002 15:26:50 -0400 I'm hoping someone has recent experience setting up the Egosys U2A in WinXP. I borrowed one that was gathering dust from a friend, but without any of the software CDs. I've downloaded the XP driver package from the manufacturer. I can't get the 'Not Connected' status in the Control Panel to go away, and Cool Edit Pro isn't receiving the signal from the coax in. I figured this must be relatively common, but a search of DAT-Heads archives hasn't turned up any solution. . . Please drop me a line off-list (sloansimpson@mindspring.com) if you have any insight. I was using a Montego II+ until last week's install of XP rendered its coax useless; XP solved a bunch of other problems for me, so I really don't want to 'downgrade' my OS. . . Thanks Sloan
From: "DRider" <Hawkwind@attbi.com> Subject: midiman co2 may not be bit-accurate/ jb3 progress Date: Sun, 6 Oct 2002 16:45:03 -0400 Jamie, Please keep us up on your findings. I bought a CO2 back in June to accommodate more patchers. For one reason or another, I have not needed it very much. On 9/15/02, I tried to use it to give my friend James a patch and it would not work. I thought it was his 7-pin and I have not heard back from him to verify this fact. Upon playback, my tape has as light electronic buzz during that portion of the recording. I have not had a chance to trouble shoot the CO2, but it may be defective.... We appreciate your efforts! D-Rider ~~~~~~~ "Jamie Lutch" <jlutch@altairinc.com> Subject: midiman co2 may not be bit-accurate/ jb3 progress Date: Sat, 5 Oct 2002 23:17:28 -0700 in the neverending quest to test the nomad jb3, I picked up a midiman co2 to test as the coax>optical converter I need before the unit. for those who arent familiar with it, it is a 9vdc powered little box that can take coax in and spit out both coax and optical. I did 3 tests with it, they were all horrendous, causing lierally 100's of short spikes of a few samples in the recording, many of which were audible as pops and clicks......

From: david@insight.rr.com Subject: help with SV-3500 and recording from DAW Date: Sun, 06 Oct 2002 21:00:11 -0400 OK, I read a lot here and post nearly never. This evening I was attempting to transfer a DAT master to DAW and then back to DAT to create a copy for a trade. Normally I master everything and transfer to CDR, but this time I needed a DAT and my trusty Core Sound Cable has died due to careless storage. Music into computer = all good. When I try to send the audio back to the deck the deck does nothing. Athlon XP 1500, 2gigs RAM, 160gig RAID, Delta 66 soundcard, Wavelab 3.x spidif out of card (rca) to spidif in on SV-3500 (rca). The opposite jacks on both devices allow transfer of DAT to DAW. I tried every setting on the Delta control panel (logical choices first), with no luck. When I press REC on the deck, the red light above the REC button and the amber light above the PAUSE button light up and the Digital indicator flashes but I can't make the deck do anything else except stop. I don't have a manual for the deck and I may be bald from tearing out my hair soon, so if any kind souls have a bit of guidance I would be appreciative. BWT: for any and all that want em, patience may be required depending on response :) Aerosmith Cleveland 9/12/02 2CDRs Great Show just send your address, I'll mail em to ya, you check the package and return my postage only, terms inforced by the karma police, any trades for Bon Jovi masters always welcome, more masters from this summer's shows as I find time to get em ready, thanks to all David
From: Rbglea@aol.com Subject: Beacon Theater Taping/Security Date: Sun, 6 Oct 2002 22:06:27 EDT Hi All, I hope to stealth tape a show at the beacon Theater in a couple of weeks and would be interested in opinions on the best area to tape from w/ cards. Also interested in hearing recent experiences w/ security, such as do the use metal detector wands, or pat downs? Are book bags or small duffles allowed? And how's security inside? TIA, Rob

From: "daniel clayton" <djclayton80@hotmail.com> Subject: Advice on DAT recorders?? Date: Mon, 07 Oct 2002 16:39:41 +1000 Dear DAT heads, I am  planning to buy my first new portable DAT recorder in the near future. The three models I have in mind are the Sony TCD-D8, PCM-M1 and TCD-D100 - can anybody give appraisal for which would be the best for a DAT beginner?? Is it worth spending a bit more and getting the PCM-M1 or the TCD-D100? Am I going to be able to hear the difference in recording quality? I am mostly planning to do field (not stealth) recording and perform subsequent manipulations on Cubasis. At present I have a set of Core Sound biaurial mics - has anyone used either of these DATs with these mics and found the recording quality very good? Are there DAT recorders of other brand in this price range of comparable quality?? many thanks, DJC. _________________________________________________________________ MSN Photos is the easiest way to share and print your photos: http://photos.msn.com/support/worldwide.aspx
