What do you all think of this scenario? I gave someone a card after one
of
the workshop sets at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival, and he emailed me
shortly thereafter, and again a month later when I finally had time to
burn
a show for him. I agreed to burn the set he had asked about (Emmylou
Harris
workshop). In the mailbox on Saturday I received a package with 10 disks,
taking up my whole mailbox, and a note, listing in order of priority, the
shows he wants. Now, I had agreed to do one show, and he sends me 10
disks,
saying he knows I don't have time to do all these shows, so whatever I
can
burn would be appreciated, and hopefully I can do a few more. Personally,
I'm pretty torqued about the presumption there, and am tempted to send
all
10 disks back and not bother burning the one show I agreed to. Opinions?
Cheers

(not even an offer of a trade); I say okay. His
package arrived about a week before I left for two
weeks to Telluride; he sends an email right before I
leave asking about the status of his B&P, which I
didn't have time to respond to. A few days later, I
then received a very rude email accusing me of ripping
him off of his $.50 worth of disks; I responded that I
was in Telluride and he quieted down a bit after
making an ass of himself.
I think I finally sent him his disks about a month
ago...too many fools in the world.

i'm inclined to respond by saying that if you're going to be away for an
extended time, don't take on any trades or b&p's immediately before that you
may not be able to get to. that, or tell the person that you've asked a
friend to do it for you while you're away, and to contact him or her. also,
if you had time to read this person's email before you left town, you had
time to respond, if only briefly.

Hey everyone,
I have a Beyer MV-100 for sale (original owner, used lightly before I
upgraded to an Oade) and, while not DAT related, I also have a Yamaha MTX100
4 track analog recorder that I have no use for and wanted to see if someone
could put it to use.
I'm looking for around $400 for the Beyer (I see SonicSense is selling new
ones for $549, but if you can show me a better going rate, I'll be more that
happy to talk. I just want this little guy to find a good home).
I have no idea what an analog 4-track goes for these days, so lets just say,
make a reasonable offer if you are interested...
Both items will come in the original box with owner's manuel for your viewing
and reading pleasure :)
peace...kev

Sure... MP3 uses ATRAC compression... I know that. But.. I listen to a lot
of music at work on my so-so computer speakers and in the car. Not the ideal
listening environments. The only "QUALITY" listening I can do is on my home
stereo. I like the idea of being able to carry my entire music collection
around on a 40-60 gig drive as MP3 files. The higher bit rate MP3 formats
sound fine to me when competing with traffic noise or as background while
working. BUT... before I head down this path there is a potential stumbling
block. It seems there may be no way to seamlessly flow from one track to the
next as a DAO burned CD plays. Is anyone aware of a way to play multiple MP3
files with no gaps between songs?
Thanks

Well, when i started out trading about 7 years back, DAT tapes were
about $3.50 or so.
Maybe the seller is remembering the good old days? (before CDR that is).
Plus, if there is some music you like on there, i`d say it`s worth an
extra buck

Oh, DON'T GET me started on mindiskers!!!! You want a better example of bad
etiquette than Mr. "Here are ten other disks and would you mind giving me
more than you said you would?" This is the closest I've EVER been to
committing felony assault. This summer at RockyGrass I was set up in front
of the board, and running 12-15 patchers off the Apogee, and even feeding a
digital out from my Marantz DAT. This woman came up at around 3 on Friday,
the first day of the festival, and asked for a patch. She didn't have a
mini-mini, so I couldn't feed her off a D8, and the only other RCA outs on
the Tascams were already taken by other patchers. So, being nice, I plugged
her into my Marantz.
Now, as a writer, Planet Bluegrass gives me poser pit access, so I usually
start the tape, stay for a song or two to set levels, then walk up to the
pit to hang out. No one bothers the gear, usually. Everything went fine this
time until the last set, which as it happens was the MOST important of the
day, the Hot Rize reunion. Apparently, while I was up front, right before
the encore starts this woman decides she wants to get out of the way of the
other tapers, since she didn't have another disk, and decides to pull her
deck since no one is patched out of her. In the process of removing her
cables from my DAT, she yanked the digital cable out of my deck and I lost
the encore. And she didn't even have the guts to stick around and apologize.
I get back to my gear, jazzed after an amazing Hot Rize set, only to be told
by the people patched out of my deck's digi-feed that this woman had screwed
up the chain. ARRRRGGGGHHHHH!!!!!!!!! Thankfully, the next day I borrowed
the tape from the first Tascam in line out of the Apogee and taped the
encore. But having to do that again pissed me off. The denoument is that
this woman, to her credit, did come up to me and apologize profusely on
Saturday. What are you gonna do? At that point, I had cooled off enough. She
had also gone out and bought her own mic so nothing like that would happen,
so I gave her some pointers and told her to have fun.
But minidisk seems to bring nothing but trouble. How many times have MDers
come up to me 3 minutes before lights and asked for a patch? I've stopped
counting. The low cost, IMHO, brings in people who haven't bothered to learn
the ropes before coming in and bugging me. That may sound like elitist crap,
but at this point it's happened often enough that I haven't been able to
come up with any other reason.
On another note, I wanted to thank everyone for offering their opinions on
my little problem. The votes seem clear: burn the agreed upon show and send
the rest back blank with an explanatory note saying he shouldn't be so
presumptuous in the future. Since none of the other shows have track IDs,
and are not burned, that is my inclination as well.
Cheers
Candace

there are asshole datheads too. it has nothing to do with minidisc or dat. it has to do

When I started, they were around $10. What matters is the current

Hi there,
stealthtaped 3 Doors Down last night here in Munich with incredible,
stunning results. This was the only played one public gig in Europe after having
visited US Navy Forces in Bahrain and on US bases in Spain and Italy.
Tape came out unbelievable, most definitely my best stealth effort to date
in more than 6 years and about 100 shows...7 feet from the left speaker stack
with a security guard just 3 feet away looking at me for most of the set..:-)

Sorry, forgot most of what I actually wanted to write in my prvious posting
regarding the 3 Doors Down show...
The show was professionally taped my a german film crew and will be
broadcast in parts in TV stations "Viva" and "Viva Plus" in the upcoming weeks in a
show series called "Overdrive". This week, for example, they aired 50 minutes
of the Foo Fighters shows in a small club in Cologne which took place a few
weeks ago.Check your TV guides for the actual date of the airing...
3 Doors Down played most of the new album which will be released next
month. Some pretty strong material, up the the stadard they set with "The better
life"...
The entire show was about 90 minutes long and included 18 songs...
That's it...hope I didn't forget anything else...
