Hi all,
my name is Dirk. I'm living in Germany and I'm a hardcore collector of
Emerson, Lake & Palmer stuff. I also like the other good old ProgRock
Monsters like Yes, Zep ....
I'm new to DAT-Heads. I've a Sony TCD-D8 with Core Sound Mics and I'm
taping my favourite bands since about a year.
If there is anybody out there who taped one of these bands I would be
VERY lucky if he/she is willing to share it with me.
I've a huge collection with (hopefully) enough stuff for a trade.
Please drop me a line to pendragon@elp-cdtrading.com. My list is on the
web www.elp-cdtrading.com
Cheers

Hi Datheads,
I just picked up a DA 30 MKII deck and have discovered that it does not like
90m tapes. It shows "error 3" which corresponds to "a broken or too thin
tape" according to the manual. Is there a way I can spoof it into playing
90m tapes? My DA 20 plays, and records, them just fine.

There is another point here and that is if the person is looking to
"profit" off these DATs by using the music that is on the tape. You
can 'tmake a "profit" if you bought DATs for $5 and then sell them
for $3. That goes in the loss column. However.....
True. Sony DDS DAT tapes are about $2. If you post "used DAT
tapes" and try to sell them for $3 each. You probably wont get too
many nibbles. If you do...I need to reassess my marketing approach.
So the answer is...is the person asking or getting more for these
used DAT tapes b/c of the music that is on them? If yes..then I'd
say that is inappropriate. But to me it sounds like this guy lost
track of market value. Which isn't a big crime.

I've had pretty good experiences with minidisc'ers, and most patchers
for that matter, for the most part. When I set up my gear, as a matter
of course, I leave 3 patch sites available. A coax S/PDIF from my
modified SBM-1 feeds a CO-2 and gives a coax and an optical link for
patchers and a 1/8 in. mini to mini from my "line-out" provides an
analog feed. What happens after that is up to the patchers; "first-come
first-served." I let them fight it out and jockey for position in the
chain.

I have to agree with Matt C. I've met asshole tapers
and cool tapers, and the equipment they use has
nothing to do with it. I figure that anyone who's
running an MD really wants to tape a show but can't
afford the investment of a DAT deck. I will usually
give them a patch, and even supply the necessary
cables, given enough time before a show starts. This
applies to DAT tapers as well. If I can hook you up, I
will. But personality is a BIG factor here. If you
approach me with a shity attitude and just assume I'm
going to hook you up because we're both tapers, you're
wrong. Attitude and etiquette go a long way. I've had
people patch into me and then just take off, assuming
that I'll watch their deck. Most of the time this is
not a problem, but sometimes they don't come back at
the end of a set or show for their deck, in which case
it's not my responsibility to babysit their rig.
The same attitude and etiquette applies to trading.
If you don't like someones attitude, don't trade with
them. Just because they trade shows doesn't mean
they're cool. There's a right way and wrong way to go
about trading. Assuming someone is going to do
something they never agreed to is definitely the wrong
way. It's a judgement call.
Of course, this is just my opinion.

Subject: Old Settlers Music Festival Early-Bird Tickets *Austin*

OLD SETTLER’S MUSIC FESTIVAL EARLY-BIRD TICKETS ON SALE TILL TOMORROW.
October 1st thru October 15th
Austin— The 16th annual Old Settler’s Music Festival – popular for its
outstanding talent roster and easygoing, family friendly atmosphere –
makes a special limited-time offer for next April’s event. From October
1st through October 15th, discounted tickets will be available on-line.
The festival will be held again at the Salt Lick BBQ Pavilion and Camp
Ben McCulloch, Thursday through Sunday, April 17th, 18th, 19th & 20th,
2003. Festival President, Randy Collier said, “Many fans were gushing
with enthusiasm at the end of last year’s festival, and many wanted to
buy next year’s tickets right away, so we thought we would reward all
those folks with a special value early-on”.
The Festival features four stages of award-winning entertainment as well
as a myriad of kids’ activities, a children’s talent contest, crafts,
clothing, music, and food vendors, including, of course, the Salt Lick’s
famed barbecue. The world-renowned Texas bluebonnets will be in full
bloom, and will welcome a return to the beautiful hill country spring
time. In-Site Magazine wrote, “What started out as a little get together
has quickly become one of the top music events in the country. Not only
do we get the best bluegrass, but also country, jazz and alt-country.”
The Salt Lick BBQ Pavilion was converted into a spectacular concert
venue last year by the organizers. Camp Ben McCulloch was a huge hit
with campers. Camp Ben, located across the street from the Salt Lick
BBQ, offers plenty of shade, swimming, RV hookups, and shower
facilities. A convenient shuttle ferries campers to the concert site.
At each festival, Old Settler’s brings special musical experiences to
Austin – 2002 hosted Grammy winners Bruce Hornsby, Del McCoury and
Michelle Shocked; 2001 featured an electrifying performance by Nickel
Creek and the final performance of the late, great John Hartford; 2000,
hosted the return of the songwriting hero Willis Alan Ramsey; while Bela
Fleck and the Flecktones turned in an electrifying performance under a
lightning filled sky. Previous performers include Alison Krauss, Doc
Watson, Peter Rowan, David Grisman, Guy Clark, Jerry Douglas, Patti
Griffin, Joe Ely, the Del McCoury Band, Shawn Colvin, Jim Lauderdale,
and Rosanne Cash.
Early bird discounts for the Old Settler’s Music Festival will be
available at www.oldsettlersmusicfest.org for a limited time only,
October 1st through the 15th, 2002. The festival hotline is (512)
370-4630. A 3-day pass is just $36, 3-days with camping is $60, and
4-days with camping is $75. Buy tickets early! Save money, avoid long
lines and get in ahead the crowd!
Major festival sponsors each year include KGSR 107.1 FM, the Austin
American Statesman, KEYE Channel 42, Coors, Coors Lite, Shiner, DOS XX,
Mike’s Hard Lemonade, and others.

Hello fellow DAT Heads,
If anyone plans to record the Tom Petty show on the Radio tonight (Check out

interested in trading with you for a copy of this show on DAT or CD.
Although for recording it, I'd use DAT since the show may last of 80
minutes. I wish one of my local stations carried it, because I'd tape it
myself, but I can't. Please anyone with this show email me.
Thanks.

"Little Feat & Friends" Waiting for Columbus Live
14-oct-2002 Lisner Auditorium Washington, DC
Very Special Guests were:
Warren Haynes, Jackson Browne, Billy Bob Thornton, Lenny Pickett, All
Mighty Senators Horn section, Ron Holloway, Jimmy Herring, Stephen
Bruton, Joe Ely, Bela Fleck, Sonny Landreth, Vince Herman, Drew Emmitt,
Levon Helm, Sam Bush and more

some of the funds also went to a native indian program but i can't
recall their URL
=======
was a really nice show! went down at the last minute knowing it was
sold out and got a single ticket at the box office - dead center but up
a little high (place only hold 1500 so its pretty small though!) DID
NOT TAPE SADLY AND WOULD LOVE A COPY IF SOMEBODY DID - i didn't see any
mic stands and no signs for taping not allowed so not sure what the
scoop was. i heard rumours they would video it for a DVD release but
only thing i saw was a tripod mounted camera in the back and one guy on
stage occasionally getting some shots - not enough for a pro DVD,
release but certainly some great footage!
the guests all came off with out a hitch mostly (hard to pull off!)
sadly when ron holloway (local DC sax legend who also played with miles
davis for the last years of his career) came out his sax pickup wasn't
working right - bela had the same thing happen but all-in-all sound was
pretty decent and most folks equip worked well and most of all the
on-stage coordination between musicians went pretty darn well.
it was no Last Waltz but it was one heck of a performance...
warren haynes and sam bush stole the show pretty much (or maybe i'm
jaded as they are two of my most favorite players in the world), they
played on more songs than anybody. hats off to paul barrere too, he
held the whole thing together and played some nice leads (and slide)
and his vocals were usually pretty good (of course richie, sam, kenny,
bill and the quiet, but very effective, fred tacket all held down the
forts on their instruments - kenny had some real nice bass riffs
working in many songs)
i should have kept a setlist - you know its going to be a special nite
when they open with rock & roll doctor and segue into some marley
quotes and then some Dead scarlet begonias quotes i think it was and
back into r&r doctor!!!
day at the dog races with jimmy herring was a real space fest
jackson sang a nice long distance love - didn't participate in much
else, a little bit in "willin'" at the end and maybe one other
levon helm jammed on drums for many songs - and they played rag mama,
rag (paul sang)
warren sang lead on spanish moon but wasn't as audible as i would have
liked - i probably should have gone down to the floor area for the 2nd
set to see how the sound was there but was sort of happy to be sitting
for some reason (getting old i guess) seats were very comfy - its a
really nice theatre
another highlight was warren, sonny and paul all jamming together on
one or two songs - wow...
i must admit i don't care a lot for shaun murphy's vocals (at least not
lead vocals - she's ok on backup stuff for the most part and plays an
ok cow bell) - she sang lead on mercenary territory fairly well, on
your way down didn't fair as well i thought
all the other guests were fun too - bela did some cool noodles (but did
seem a bit uncomfortable with it all), sam played some fiddle later,
sonny did some fine slide, lenny did some good sax (almost nailed the
mercenary territory lead but couldn't quite eek it all out - it is a
tough solo - did he do the original on WFC?)
sam bush wasn't listed in the newspaper but was in the program (i had
no idea until i got there - great surprise), only other guest that
wasn't listed that played on a song or two was john molo (other ones
drummer)
wish i could report on the whole setlist with who was on what, etc
maybe somebody else took notes (and more importantly taped with a good
rig, hopefully an sbd will surface) - ah just found a setlist that
was forwarded from gov't mule list to feat web discussion list
http://www.littlefeat.net/wwwboard and will attach it at the bottom
see http://www.littlefeat.net for their tour info, etc they have the
re-mastered "waiting for columbus" available which is real nice (its
from lisner & rainbow [england] 1977) - of course 73-76 was for me the
peak of their playing but the '77 stuff is still very cool. feat also
have out now three double CDs of live and studio rarities which i
haven't heard any of yet
later,
fish
p.s. don't forget i'm looking for a copy on DAT or CDR ;-)

Hey guys,
Looking to unload my Beyerdynamic MV-100 preamp. Bought this unit
used from Nutter probably back around Feb of this year. Only used a
couple times before I borrowed a friend's MP2 and now have become
quite attached to it.
This is VERY simple and straightforward preamp/phantom unit that I've
never ran into problems with. 2 - 9Volts run the left and right
channel Phantom power, 2 XLR inputs > 2 RCA outputs, 48v phantom power or
dynamic pass, 3 gain settings simplify things to 20db, 40db, and
60db settings, and a High pass filter at 120hz.
Looking to get around $350 for this unit. Very good working
condition. E-mail me if interested, or if you have any questions.
I thank you.
