uh guys, i think WAY too much is being made of this "used dat" offer. it
hardly seems like a scandal. i really don't believe the guy in question is
trying to profit from anyone else's hobby, but merely trying to further his
own. so it seems the guy didn't RESEARCH exactly what he should have offered
the dats for (right down to the penny), but at least he's not out selling
the shit on ebay, or at repo records, where he could make five times as
much. value is relative, not necessarily determined by the dude at terrapin
tapes. chill out on the guy. he probably just wants to buy some blanks.
-chris
anyone who wants schoeps tapes of k-floor or br5-49 from the philadelphia
area, shoot me an email. these guys are obscure but up and coming bands,
both of whom rock. the tapes are great too. i'd prefer trades but will take
b&p's (5 tops).

I was playing on taping one of the Roseland shows, do they do two sets or one
long set? But for 2x120 tapes or 1x3 hour? I figure they are decent with
informing venue security so it shouldnt be a problem, I hope. I also figure
stands are ok as well. If you have an info please pass it along at

Hi all. Toad The Wet Sprocket is getting back together to open a few shows for Counting Crows on the west
coast next month. Since the Crows now have an open taping policy, you should have no problem getting these Toad
shows. I have plenty of Toad, as well as Glen solo to trade.
Thanks.

Thanks for all of the responses! While I have never had a problem with 90m
tapes in either my DA-P1 or DA 20, I think I will do the tape over the hole
bit once and split the 90m master to two 60m tapes where possible. I have a
surplus of blank 60m's at the moment anyway.

the upgrade is basically complete, as such:
oktatva m012: card capsules/pair, -10db pads, in individual hard plastic
cases. i just dont use em anymore. looking to get, say $150/pair. if
youre a newbie or patcher and thinking about getting mics, these will blow
away akg c1000's or a.t. 4051's (decent lower end mics). excellent cosmetic
shape. decent mics for the money.
mp2: total workhorse. i _love_ this preamp, but with my new configuration,
i just cant justify holding on to 3 preamps. cosmetically, it has a couple
of scuffs, nothing major (if you need pics, email me off list). perfect
working condition. i am the 2nd owner, bought from the original owner in
may 02. original purchase date 10/01.
looking to get, say, $500. this is negotiable. it has been through 2
owners but is barely a year old. i have used this preamp many times, with
flawless functionality.
i have this on my server, if ya wanna hear this config:

Subject: RE: Tascam DA 30 MKII and 90m tapes ("Roger")
Date: Wed, 16 Oct 2002 09:11:41 -0400
Roger (and all),
Borrowed from http://www.wagnerone.com/enteract/dat/tascam/#da30mk2 For more
info on the DA-30, visit the site:
Every DAT has a series of holes on the bottom front edge of the tape. Some
are open and some are closed, depending on the type of tape. When the tape
is fed into your TASCAM, the deck automatically searches for open holes to
read the tape. This function is similar to the tabs on analog tapes that
tell the deck whether the tape is normal bias, chrome or metal, and whether
it is write protected.
If you've ever had to over-dub an analog tape that has the tabs punched out
of it, then you know what to do with your DA-30 MK II. Cover the second hole
from the left on the bottom of the tape with a piece of tape label. When the
deck tries to detect the thickness of the tape, it will read it as "thick"
instead of thin, and allow you to use it. The counters on the deck will then
read and write up to the full length of the tape, just like any other deck.
If you're not sure which hole is which, read page 6 of your owner's manual.
It provides a detailed picture and description of the structure of a DAT.

Hi Datheads,
I just picked up a DA 30 MKII deck and have discovered that it does not like
90m tapes. It shows "error 3" which corresponds to "a broken or too thin
tape" according to the manual. Is there a way I can spoof it into playing
90m tapes? My DA 20 plays, and records, them just fine.

Hi-
There are two ways. The first is to have the deck modified as I did. I
brought it into a Tascam sevice center and had them short the sensor
that determines the tape length. If you look at the DAT tape, you will
notice small holes. These are similar to the analog cassette holes used
to determine Normal, Chrome and Metal tapes... I forget off the top of
my head which hole determines the tape length, but whichever one it is,
that one needs to be shorted so that the machine thinks it is using a
60m tape...
Since my machine was still under warranty, it was done for free. Had to
social engineer the tech that this was an approved Tascam mod, but he
didn't care. All he cared was that he wrote, "Service" on the ticket and
billed Tascam...
The other way if you are out of warranty or can't find someone willing
to do it, is to just use a bit of tape over the hole... Not very
sophisticated and may fall off in your machine, but still does the
trick... You can also do this to each hole first to see which it is that
needs to be shorted to make it think it's a 60m....
Funny story though... I had ordered a case of 100 90m tapes at the same
time I ordered the Tascam and had them all delivered to my friend's
house in Jersey to avoid the tax. When I got there and put the tapes in
for the first time, I got those same error messages. When I looked in
the manual and saw what you saw (that the Tascam doesn't accept 90m
tapes), there I was: standing there with a blank stare on my face
looking at my new deck, 100 useless tapes and my friend laughing at me
so hard, his soda was coming out his nose and ears... Guess you had to
be there... ;>
