Subject: bit perfect soundcard question
Date: Sat, 19 Oct 2002 11:19:43 -0500
I am in the market for a sound card for my PC which can do bit perfect
digital transfers. Specifically I am looking for a card w/ spdif input
and output which does not resample for digital transfer to and from a
DAT recorder. I currently have a Soundblaster Live! Platinum but I think
my Live! Card is on the fritz and I know that the chipset for these
cards resamples the digital data so I want to purchase a new card which
does bit perfect transfers. Has anyone done any testing of cards and
have some suggestions? Money is tight, as it is for many people right
now, so I am looking for a cheap solution here. I have seen some generic
cards with the ESS Allegro chipset, anyone know if the Allegro resamples
the data?? If anyone has a used card to sell, please contact me offlist.

If anyone was fortunate enought to walk away with a recording I'd greatly
appreciate getting a copy when convenient. Please contact me privately for
my list info.
To anyone else lucky enough to see an upcoming show, you're in for a treat.
Paul sounds amazing & his stage show is nothing short of beautiful; very
much in the vein of the Dead & Floyd.....minus the lasers that melt your
brain. Chris

Using DPA 4061 mics and a Sony M1, would using a Sony SBM-1 produce better
results than using a Denecke AD20??
I've never used the SBM-1 or AD20 yet, and I'm going to be taping a rock
band tomorrow night, so I'd like to get some opinions of which A/D
converter would be better. The only thing that would make me pick the AD20
is because it has a built-in preamp as well.
Any opinions would be greatly appreciated,
Dave
