I have a homemade SCMS Buster that I used
on the road when hooking up digi - to non-professional
decks...runs for 3+ hours on a single 9Volt battery...
rca/coaxial Input/Output...I do NOT believe it does
anything with startIDs, so if you want to use it at home
from previous recordings
It was bought as a kit from me, and I "paid" a tech
in one of my old businesses to put it together...
I no longer have any DAT Decks, thus, the need to
sell...best offer gets it!

Ok, I taped my first show the other night with my new rig (DPA 4061s>MPS6030>M1 @48.8) Ben Kweller & Ben Folds Five in Geneseo, NY. The Ben Kweller show sounds great (except the first song being cut) the Ben Folds on the other hand came out distorted due to using mic instead of line in. Its listenable, but barely. The point of this post however, I saw a guy running a full rig with a mic stand there just to the left of the soundboard, I talked to you for a minute but didn't get your contact info. If by any chance you read this list (or anyone else who might have happened to be there and got a good recording) I'd really appreciate if I could get a decent sounding copy of the show from you. Ben Folds in particular, Ben Kweller if you have that as well. Please contact me off list and I'm sure we could work something out. Thanks in advance.
For the rest of the list or anyone that is interested, I'll have my recordings of the shows available as soon as I get them onto my computer.

Sorry for the small crosspost...
If anyone could tape this show it would help make my life complete. We could
work out some sort of deal, of course, and my list is long, so I'm sure I've
got something(s) you'd like to trade for. I've managed to miss their last few
gigs, always happening to be in Mpls a few days before or after. They were out
of action for 8 years, and suddenly reappeared last winter. One of the greatest
bands ever. Definitely among my few absolute favorite bands. You can listen to
a lot of their songs at their site: http:www.tvbc.tv
I don't know if this show will sell out, but it's possible.
If anyone knows any tapers in Mpls area from a decade ago who were into punk
and crazy rock and might have taped TVBC back then, I'm always hoping to find
such recordings.

Namaste Y'all:
well, i just took the plunge and bought a beautiful
rack mounted 88 which is linked to a Behringer 8
channel tube amp to "warm" up the inputs into the 88.
What i'm looking for is a digi connector to go from
the 88's "tdif" to a coax or to do a "tdif"> seven pin
connection...
Is such a beast even possible?
I have a wonderful lil Samson Mixpad 4, but am now in
the market for an 8 channel mixer [it'd be cool if it
had the capability to be battery powered and with a
delay?] to be able to properly use the DA-88 on a
budget....i have access to a 24 channel board a few
times a week for a coupla hours at a stretch...but
that's not cutting it.

Bad news for any Legendary Pink Dots Tapers!
I traveled to St. Pete (4 hours) to tape the Legendary Pink Dots last
Friday, but I was turned away w/ my equipment and not allowed to tape the
show.
The band is no longer taping friendly.
Someone sold a live recording made at a show on eBay and the band found out
about it. This discouraged them from allowing taping of ANY kind any more.
This is very bad news for fans like me.
I promised the road manager and the sound man that I would post this
information to DAT-Heads. They were well aware of this list!!
This band allowed taping for a long time and used to be very open and cool
about it. In fact, I was originally exposed to them because I heard about
their pro-taping attitude. I don't know of any other band like LPD and no
band that is even remotely similar allows taping.
It's very unfortunate that some greedy scumbag has ruined it for everyone.
Once again, if you missed it:
The Legendary Pink Dots No Longer Allow Taping of ANY kind at ANY of their
shows.

Subject: CD burner problems
Date: Tue, 22 Oct 2002 17:20:20 -0700 (PDT)
i have a fairly old Marantz 630 burner which seems
on the verge of dying...for 6 mos or so, after
finalizing a disc the 'recordable' icon (sometimes)
doesn't dissappear; the display will still reads 'CD
recordable', yet the discs will play fine in a normal
CD player. now it's at the point where this happens
more often than not, and the discs are becoming more
and more difficult to play in standard CD players.
they often read 'disc not finalized', or the display
shows the number of tracks and total running time, but
the discs won't play... SO. i assume there's really
nothing to remedy the situation? lens cleaners etc
aren't going to help? and these things are next to
impossible to repair, i hear... so i guess i need a
new burner...the marantz CDR500 looks quite
interesting (the dual-well high speed one). does
anyone have experience w/ this model? gary, if you're
reading this, feel free to email me w/ any spectacular
deals the DAT store may have on this model, or
similar... ;) thank you.

It works for me under Win2K. There's information on www.zefiro.com about
how to install it under that OS. You might also try the same steps in

Trying to get the best recording I can and still keep as small as possible.
Has anyone had experience using a setup with just the Schoeps MK4 caps with
either the JK Labs DVC or the Sonosax preamp?
Any ideas where to get a modified Sonosax SX-M2 LS(The LS version doesn't
require the mic bodies and I guess and isn't such a battery hog.)

Subject: stealth taping method (recording levels)
Date: Wed, 23 Oct 2002 12:35:26 -0400
Hi Guys,
I'm asking this question on the behalf of a friend:
I've got a question on stealth taping and setting the recording levels.
I recently recorded a show that had a lot of quiet parts/songs, but when
the
song ended and the crowd roared the levels shot waaay up (i.e. the crowd
was
much louder than the music). I ended up dealing with this by constantly
adjusting the recording levels.............up for the quiet songs, down for
the crowd roar at the end of the songs.
This was a bit of pain in the ass and not all that practical (fortunately I
had a seat so I could just keep the deck in my lap, but it was still
annoying).
I'm taping another similar show next month and I'm wondering how to
overcome
this problem.
One idea is to set the record levels to peak when the crowd roars, but that
is sort of annoying too........on the play back you end up having to
constantly adjust the volume (way up for the songs, and way down for the
crowd, or else you'll blow out your eardrums and speakers!)
Another idea is to just set the deck to the "Auto" record levels. This
appeals to me, but I've heard some people caution against it, but never
give
an answer as to why it's such a bad thing to do. It will work well for my
upcoming taping mission because I'll have to stand for the show and won't
be
able to adjust the levels often. Is this a bad idea?
Anyone have any suggestions on how to deal with the quiet music/loud crowd
problem?
Thanks,
Bart
