Hi there,
I've used my SonicPort (Optical) without problems for a couple of years =
now. But last weekend I changed the settings (digital-in to analog-in)
using the configuration tool. It re-programmed the flash (sorry, I didn't =
see if the 'verify' pass came by) and told me to reboot the system.
So I did, but now my system won't start up when the SonicPort is attached. =
When I unplug it, the system boots fine, but as soon as I plug it
back in, the system hangs.
I also tried this on another machine, but it had the same results. All =
these tests were on Win98 machines. I also plugged it into an XP-machine,
which just detects that a SonicPort is attached, but then also dies. =
(Actually, the system is still sort of alive, it is just extremely slow. =
The=20
processor load is 100%, and it barely responses to any mouse clicks.)
It seems that something went wrong during the last Flash operation.
Does any of you have some suggestion to solve this problem ?
Regards,
JeroenZ

I agree that moving closer is generally the best thing to do, and that
manually changing levels during recording is _really_ annoying during
playback. However I've increasingly becoming a fan of using auto
recording levels/AGC (can only speak for the M1 here) when you know
the audience will be a lot louder than the music. Even with a mic
limiter I've been bitten by clipping during very loud applause. The
AGC also sounds a lot more natural and preserves much more dynamic
range than I expected it to. I also like that it gives me a few more
db in quiet sections than I might have settled for using mic in and
limiter. I taped Low a few weeks ago using AGC in a small room about
8 rows back from the stage and I think it's one of the better-sounding
tapes I've made.

Subject: bubble mailers (why not re-use/recycle)
Date: Thu, 24 Oct 2002 19:31:25 EDT
Hi people,
I realize a lot of people use padded bubble envelopes to mail dats/cdrs for
trading - I do that as well. I'd like to encourage people to reuse their
padded envelopes instead of buying more, no matter how cheap they are. I can
understand wanting to use new padded envelopes when sending a
business-related item, such as a sample to a customer. But for trading
music, I'd like to advocate reusing envelopes - we've all seen them used
before, a new one shouldn't impress anyone. I haven't purchased a padded
envelope since 1989, when I got started on this trading hobby... since then,
I've been able to just reuse envelopes received from trading or when
purchasing cds/etc which were sent in padded envelopes. Sometimes I'll get
them at work, as well, so I reuse those.
I also think that reusing the envelopes can be a bit better for the
environment, but I could be wrong.
