Hi all,
I've been toying around with my DAT drives in Linux, and
although they work great with dat2wav in Windows, I'm having trouble
with the simple command "dd if=3D/dev/st0 of=3Dmy_dat"
Can anyone give me the exact syntax for this?
Thanks,

I've gotten a number of responses to my query.
Basically, the street price seems to be $1250 ($1400 list).
Differences will be in shipping, and possibly something is negotiable
if you buy more stuff at the same time, but there doesn't appear to be
much profit at that price.
There is likely to be a buy-back program for the AD500 and AD1000, but
I haven't heard anything about details (like, how much they'd be
worth). The going prices on those (ebay, etc.) seem to be somewhere
over $500.

I have the opportunity to puchase a reasonably priced AD-500. Having never
used one of these, I have a few questions that some of the Apogee users on
the list could answer. How would I get the signal from the Apogee to my
DA-P1? Is one of the BNC connectors an out that I could convert to S/PDIF
like an ADC-20? How are these generally powered in the field? I know that
it comes with the original, PS-1000 power cable, can I canablize this and
connect it to a 12v and be happy?
I appreciate any help.

can i get some confirmation on how to handle an1/8" to xlr adapter i need
to make? i'm going from an 1/8" mini male to xlr females. as far as i
understand it (re the 4 leads for each XLR: (2)+, (3) -, (1)ground and
(sleeve) common) i'll be putting the (+) lead from each mic to the tip and
shaft of the 1/8" and bundling everything else (the two (-) leads, the
grounds and the common/shells) to the ground. sound right?

I have the AD1000, but I believe many of the connectors are the same.

On the AD1000, there's a 15-pin sub-D connector, that brings power to
the deck, and has S/PDIF out (plus a whole lot of other stuff I don't
know or care about). There's also an AES/EBU out, that's probably a
lot easier to use (because it's the standard XLR connector).
> I know that it comes with the original, PS-1000 power cable, can I
> canablize this and connect it to a 12v and be happy?
For the AD1000, the answer is Yes. (Although I'd suggest buying the
parts and building your own, just to avoid potentially ruining your
only good cable. On the other hand, that requires better tiny-pin
detail work than my fingers are good at.)

Hello,
Has anyone worked with or own a Sony CDRW33 CD recorder? I'm thinking about

Does the SBM make a difference when recording in Analog?
Can you tell me if the Sony CDRW33 CD recorder will ignore the SCMS Copy
Protection placed on store bought original CDs? Can I make a digital copy
of a CDR that has already been digitally copied?
Will it record on both computer and Music CDRs?
Thanks.

yes, as seth stated, you could use the aes/ebu digi out, and get an
XLR->coax cable. i think u can get a HOSA cable from Oade for cheap. Or,
if you have the manual, ,it shouws you exactly what pins on that 15pin
power cable are for the digital coax input and for power, so if you are
handy with wire stripping and soldering its fairly simple. if you are
not, ill be happy to set you up with a cables and battery and charger for
a fraction of the cost of eco-charge, etc :)
