FWIW, whenever I give patches I make it a requirement that they be
passed on if anyone asks (if the technology allows), and those who
can't pass on go to the end of the chain, while those who can pass on
more than they get go to the front.

Subject: Active Cable Questions
Date: Fri, 01 Nov 2002 13:07:17 -0500
Couple of questions about active cables:
1) Does an active cable negate the need for the mic body?
I believe this is so for the Schoeps Collettes and the kc5 cables, but don't
know about the Neumann LC3 cables and the similar MBHO setup. For example,
do I need the km100 bodies if I have the active cable setup, the ak50 caps
and a preamp? Is the DPA system an active cable system (e.g. 4021s and
4022s)?
2) Is there audible difference in recordings with the bodies and those
without?
My thoughts are that I'd like to use the same rig for both stealthing and
section taping but would certainly like to avoid the costs of the mic bodies
if they're not entirely necessary (with the understanding that the active
cables are themselves quite expensive).
Any help, suggestions, online tutorials would be greatly appreciated. If
you prefer to contact me privately, please do so to:
chris_melas@hotmail.com.
Thanks!
Chris in DC

What do you mean by "my information"?
They should always specify mics, location, etc.
Ask me if I want them to use my name. (I generally don't care, and
people who know me can often identify me by the rig anyway.)

I'm looking for a copy of SCI 10/31/02 set 1. The *one* time I forget
to do a load check, the tape misloads. Lots to trade. TIA.

Hy Steve,
congratulations, I use the same mics for recording.
I use not a Neumann mount for ORTF. They want to much money.
I don´t know exactly the supplier for my mount but I can get infos for
you. There is also on the König&Meyer website (www.k-m.de) a mount with
the number 235. This would be right for you. I think you should be able
to set the 90 degree between the mics with it too.

Jason,
If someone patches out of you, they should put in "your info" if they trade.
They may add some more details if they are really particular, such as saying
their source is a patch master. But that is not really necessary. If they
have a list, it will become obvious that they are a patcher. Not many people
own a pair of Schoeps and Neumanns and MBHO's etc.........
Most people that I know would want to know if it was an analog patch, should
that be the case.........
Some people forget to ask and some people just don't care.
I would say that forgetting is more common than not caring. Stress, time
allotments, access to the section, security and the amount of functioning
brain cells at the time can all play a role in the "Mr. Short-Term Memory"
factor.
Chances are, if a person forgets one time and they like the sound of your
mics, they won't forget to ask the second time they see you..... ")
I tend to practice the "ask me and I'll tell you" motto. If it's a really
relaxed atmosphere and there's plenty of time before the show, I may ask
them if they want the source info. If it's a guy that has managed to make it
to the section and he has security breathing down his neck, I will write it
on the label to help him out.
If you carry a ballpoint pen to label your tapes at shows, break yourself of
that habit right away. Use some type of felt-tip or sharpie instead. The ink
in a ballpoint can flake when it dries and cause problems w/ your tape.
Just find your level of comfort and deal w/ it on a case by case basis. The
friendly tapers w/ the phatty rigs get the most patchers. Take on what you
can handle, but don't overdo it.
Hope this helps!

looking for a kcy cable any length for schoeps need just the part that caps
screw into to. But if you got a cable will take whole thing. Even if cable
is no good as long as the part the caps screw onto is good I'll take it

Subject: Furman power conditioner question (NDC)
Date: Fri, 1 Nov 2002 21:21:01 -0600
Sorry for the non-dat post here but I figured your a knowledgable groups. I
have an old Furman rack mounted power conditioner that I am using to power
my TV set, reciever and vcr now. I had a bit of problem with AC noise
leaking into my TV in the form of very short and minor burst of static that
is visible when the washer, dryer and dishwasher were cycling. All of which
are on their own circuits in our panel which is why this doesnt make much
sense to me since they wouldnt be drawing extra power off the circuit my TV
is on. Im guessing this is caused by RFI/EMI interference. The conditioners
manuel says its a surge transiet supressor with an RFI/EMI interfernce
filter. Anyhow, I am hoping this has solved this minor annoyance of mine.
My concern is, is there any hazard in having this conditioner not rack
mounted and mearly sitting level in the TV cabinet? Perhaps because of heat
of some kind? I figure its gotta be safer than your average temporary power
tap surge protector.
Anyhow, if someone is familar with this non-DAT inquiry, please advise.
