Sorry for the plug here, but with all the talk about people getting shut
out for tapers tickets and wanting to see who indeed got tapers tickets to
the Other Ones shows, I created a group for us DAT traders and tapers. The
group can be used as a forum for setting up meeting spots, searching for
tapers tickets and finally trading the Other Ones shows from the fall on
DAT. If you want to join, click on the link below.

Subject: mini-me power connector
Date: Wed, 6 Nov 2002 10:33:02 -0800
Mike responded to Winnie's power plug comments about the mini-me. I do not
like straight power connectors on portable electronics units like the
mini-me. I recommend the following choices from mouser:
172-1015 rt angle 2.1x5.5 detent locking molded cable assembly,
120inch long 24ga cable
172-4207 same, but blunt cut tip not locking and 18ga cable, 24inches
long
for those like me that make their own cables, I recommend Canare L4E6S cable
available in 10 colors from Markertek www.markertek.com
<http://www.markertek.com>
and this rt angle plug from Mouser:
171-3215 2.1x5.5x9.5 rt angle power plug
I have not had a mini*me in front of me despite a building power system for
one. So I cannot tell you how or whether the detent locking plug will work
w/ the mini*me jack. And all the usual disclaimers apply.
Hope this helps

FYI, despite any previous confusion about 'tapers' tickets for Roanoke.
and even tho some people may have gotten tickets marked 'tapers' a GA
floor is all you need to tape there.

Subject: got any Garaj Majhal seeds to share?
Date: Wed, 6 Nov 2002 14:08:57 -0600
We've spoken with Charlie Miller and Fareed and the Garaj gang has given
their approval to be a part of the archive.org project. The policy is up
there and there's even a show being hosted already :)
So the task now is to pull in the shows that hopefully some of you folks
have taped and get the materil up on the archive.org servers so people can
start pulling down the SHN's and get the word around about this fantastic
band.
If any of you have happened to tape them and have some seeds you'd like to
get out there - please help out.
You can upload the shows to archive.org yourself (and here's a link to learn
how: http://webdev.archive.org/audio/etree-upload.php) and the admins will
review and post the shows on the servers OR if you want to send the seeds my
way (FTP/snail mail, etc...) I'll take care of preparing them and uploading
them.
In addition they currently don't have a 'setlist' repository on their
website and it appears if they prefer to use setlist.com as their database
for setlists. so if you are working on a seed and want to verify a setlist
or need one, do check there first. If it's not there David Divjak
(divjak@msn.com) who is the keeper of the Garaj material at setlist.com may
be able to help you. He recently has said that he does have a bunch of
setlists he's working on getting up there, in time of course.
Thanks!

The band put together a show on Halloween at Studio E with the help of some
special friends. Joining the DN
Acoustic Band was Sandy Rothman (JGAB, Good Ol' Boys) on banjo, dobro, and
mandolin, Brian Godchaux (Dan
Hicks and his Hot Licks) on fiddle, and Pat Campbell on upright bass.
Did anyone tape??

Last year I bought a Portabrace (standard DA-P1 model) to house my MP-2 and
DA-P1 but since the XLR input/outputs on the MP-2 are on each *side* of the
unit, I can't make that fit inside the Portabrace. Has anyone here
customized their Portabrace for this? Or does an MP-2 (fully connected) fit
nicely in a Sonic Case? If so, anyone need a pristine Portabrace? ;^)

Subject: Albany TOO Taper Tickets?
Date: Wed, 6 Nov 2002 18:17:18 -0500
Ira,
Have you tried calling Ruby and asking her as nicely as possible if ANY
taper tix were released for this show??
Could it be that the taper tix are in a certain area and if you have a
ticket in that area, you have a taper ticket?
This has happened before.
If you have not called Ruby, I would suggest doing that. But I must stress,
be as nice as possible.
Ruby has made it VERY clear that we tapers are a "pain in the ass" and a
"thorn in her side" that she wished we would go away. She and I have emailed
back and forth on this topic, as well as discussing it on the phone.
Ruby thinks that we tapers are an un-needed group out here and that we
complain more than anyone else.
Over the past year, tapers have added more fuel to her opinion (which most
importantly is also shared by the crew) and not done much to dispel her
opinion.
Tapers set up their equipment in other people's assigned seats on the Fall
2001 PLQ tour because they did not wanna tape from the section. This no
doubt was because the section was in an area that no one would want to sit
in, let alone tape from. However, this pissed off the people that wanted to
sit in their seats, they in turn complained to the venue and both the venue
and the people themselves complained to GDTSTOO.
Then add the FOB tapers at the Fox in St. Louis at the 8/1/02 PLQ show,
especially the one directly in front of Ruby's seat.
The true icing on the cake were the FOB tapers at the Alpine Reunion that
were told personally by Dennis McNally not to tape in front of the board and
move back to the section that totally disregarded his request.
Yes, Phil, Bobby and the rest of the guys are taping friendly, but they are
not the ones selling the tix and they definitely are not the ones that
layout the hall. The guys in the band don't get involved w/ the crew setting
up the equipment in the hall.
I have been told flat out that the crew does not like tapers. Period!
That's why they often put the tapers in one of the worst sections in the
entire room. Tapers are an after thought that get stuck back in a corner
"out of everyone's way". Some concert goers are Grateful for tapers and the
service they provide in circulating copies of the shows to the masses. But
there are others that have complained that they can't see or that they don't
like being "shushed" for talking.
The truly taper friendly days appear to be gone when it comes to the
remaining members of the Grateful Dead and all their offshoot bands. We lost
a great ally when we lost Dan Healy!!!
So call Ruby, be nice and try to find out what the situation is in the
kindest way possible.
Tapers are on thin ice.
Good luck!!
D

Subject: Albany TOO Taper Tickets?
Date: Tue, 5 Nov 2002 15:49:34 EST
I'm wondering what gives for this show? Besides myself, I've got over a
half-dozen taper friends who got shut out for taper tickets for Albany. In
fact, I still haven't found one taper who managed to get a taper for this
show. All of us are long time tapers who've been getting our tickets from
Ruby at GDTSTOO for ages. I would think that at least a few of us would
have
gotten tapers.
I thought that possibly because I asked for two tapers she couldn't fill my
order, but a few on my friends only asked for one taper and got shut out.
We
all received tickets in Section 118 (Right side, just in front of the stage)
which are good seats, but not tapers.
If anyone out there managed to get a pair of tapers and can part with one of
them, I'll be happy to accommodate you in any reasonable manner you specify.
I've got a taper for both Philly's, Hartford, and the Meadowlands so far.
I'll help anyone I can get a recording of the show. I'm more than happy to
give out patches at any time. This Albany show will be the first time in a
long time that I'll be a begger for a taper.
Thanks for the consideration!
Yours,
Ira
