Subject: soundcard options
Date: Fri, 15 Nov 2002 07:11:05 +0000
hi, i need a soundcard to convert some dats to cdr, I am also thinking I may
use an external one for some laptop recorings. 96k really isnt important to
me now since i have nothing to transfer those recordings too, and i am not
going to be getting a massive pro rig anytime soon.
I am looking at the following models
http://www.yamaha.ca/computer/cavit/index.htm
this one obviously has other functions besides recording, can do 44.1 and
48k only but also in 24 bit, its also massive 11lbs
the other option is Onkyo USB Digital Audio Processor SE-U55
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2070832767
i dont have a website link to this just the ebay auction sorry this
advertises for that seller. it can do 32, 44.1 and 48 and its also cheap,
and smaller 1.5 lbs but i do not believe this is 24bit, so it would be the
same as recording on dat if i did laptop recordings it would just save the
trouble of coverting the dats later.
lastly should i forget the idea of external i'll just go with a dio 2496
which of course can accept 32, 44.1, 48, and 96k 24 bit.
As for price I do not want to spend much more then what a dio 2496 costs so
keep that in mind. the yamaha one is nice, and is also availible near me,
but not being able to record in 32k can its massive size are whats holding
me back from buying
any suggestions are welcome, thanks so much for any and all help.
Andrew

- Sony D7 $300. excellent cosmetic condition. One owner (previous to
me), light use by myself (once, maybe twice). Excellent cosmetic
condition. No issues that I'm aware of. Comes w/leather case, 6v wall
wart and home-made battery sled (replacing the missing internal 4AA
holder). Also comes with Sony active 7pin cable. This is the "digital
in" only cable. No I/O. The cable is in pristine condition.
I will pay for USPS priority shipping w/insurance.

his MD has an optical out, while his soundcard only has a S/PDIF in..
is there any cable or adapter that exists that would allow him to do this c=

please let me know if any exists!!!

Hey,
Has anyone been taping off XM radio? Looks like some
BBC concerts are being aired that I might like to
record. I have some questions that I was hoping
someone here might be able to answer.
1) are there any home receivers with digital outs?
2) is there a way to see their programming schedule
(with details of who's going to be on what show, etc.)
3) what sort of concerts have been aired.
Thanks!

Date: Fri, 15 Nov 2002 17:52:53 -0500
These accusations should never be made lightly, I know. But read on...
In early September I sent Christi Hatfield of Irving TX a money order for
the sale of an Apogee AD1000. The transaction originated from her post in
this list.
She has had my money now for over 2 months. She emailed me three days after
I sent the money order to make sure it was coming. I have not heard back
since. I have spoken frequently with her mother (I insisted on a phone
number); she appears to be concerned and tells me things like "I spoke to
Christi and she says she mailed it....". of course, when I ask for a
tracking number, she forgets to ask, or Christi won't call her back....you
get the picture.
A few points of interest (Christi, you might want to read this part):
>>> A class-action lawsuit is in the works. This will include myself,
another Digester who has had a similar experience, and ANYONE ELSE WHO HAS
HAD SIMILAR EXPERIENCES WITH CHRISTI HATFIELD (if this is you, please get in
touch)
>>> The Irving police department has been notified. They were able to
verify the name/address to which I sent the money order. I spoke with a
detective who assures me that one of his guys specializes in internet fraud
investigations and will be getting in touch later today, or failing that,
Monday morning.
>>> The Florida state attorney general's office has been contacted. They
directed me to an online method for filing an official complaint. That
complaint, as 5:30 today, had been filed. My immediate next step is to do
the same thing with the Texas state attorney general...I of course want to
see this litigation in Texas, where the death penalty is still used for
grand theft on occasion.
>>> Christi, I'm done waiting. Get my number of your email or from your
mother and call me ASAP.
Sorry for the long post...if anyone out there has a similar nightmare
relating to this girl please get in touch quickly....I want to get this ball
rolling.
In anyone out there actually knows this person, please knock her on the head
and get her to do the right thing.
John

As you can tell from my last post, I have been royally screwed by someone on
this list out of a preamp. I had to sell my DMIC20 to fund the purchase of
an ADK which I've been waiting for now for about 2 months.
If anyone reading this has been blessed with a good paying job / inheritance
/ other windfall and can make a kind, kind offer on a mod UA5, a DMIC-20, or
a similar AD/Pre combo, please get in touch. I miss taping so much....it
hurts every time....try putting yourself in my situation: how would you feel
if someone you trusted came along and basically stole your rig ? I have not
been blessed in the aforementioned ways, and replacement at this point is
not feasable unless Christi sends my money back, or someone can do a good
person a huge favor.... i don't really see myself being able to spend more
that about $300-$350 dollars at this point, or maybe a payment schedule
could be worked out, say $50 - $75 a week until it's paid off. i guess i
could do that and get something nicer, if someone can accomodate such an
assanine request.
PLEASE....jesus, this actually has brought me to tears, and i don't even cry
at funerals...death is transformation, what's happened to me is just plain
wrong.
Help.

Subject: slightly-weird taping request: Grease musical in London
Date: Fri, 15 Nov 2002 19:20:21 EST
Hey people,
Former Steps' member Lee Latchford Evans has a short (total 10 minutes?) role
as the Teen Angel in the Grease musical production in London at the Victoria
Theatre, near Victoria tube station. I caught the show Tuesday, it was quite
lovely, but didn't have my taping gear.
Can anybody tape one of these shows for Lee's vocal performance? I just would
like to have his Teen Angel performance - it is in the second half of the
show, and he has a tiny encore during the applause section. You can also
guess who he is because he's a bit famous in England, so most people
recognize him in the performance, compared to his fellow musical performers.
Alas I have zero Steps to offer in trade, but maybe have something else? I
suppose any parent taking their child to see Grease would be the ideal taper,
hopefully someone on DATheads is interested!
You can email me at "gaobest@aol.com" and production ends in March!
thanks a zillion
