Dual output? Yes. I believe a lot of places sell optical splitters for about
$5 that you can stick on the end of an optical cable.
Dual input? Doesn't really make sense unless there is also a switch. You can
only have one digital signal feeding a device.

Am I sure? No. But I quote from page 4 of the U24 manual: "U24 offers
s/pdif digital input and output via optical or coaxial ports. There's no
additional conversion process for signal already recorded."
Anyone have any actual data or information that might call this into
question?

regarding the ESI Waveterminal U24 USB recording/interface/etc device, that
was discussed in digest 546
are you (anyone) SURE that it is 100% "kosher"? by that i mean, does it
really do a "bit for bit" transfer?
i had heard in the past that the all of the EGOSYS USB devices, including
the U2A and U24, both resample input, even if no resampling is selected,
dither down, drop bits, etc (sorry but i don't remember all the details)<<<

i found a note that someone posted to the group earlier this year about the
EGOSYS/ESI U2A & U24 not being "bit for bit"; apparently this person
contacted the company and was told that neither device would do bit for bit
transfers
http://www.solorb.com/dat-heads/digests/V6.200/D275#Msg21
if i was looking for a USB device capable of bit for bit transfers &
considering the U2A or U24, i would first email the company & ask them for
100% confirmation....when in doubt, ask the source, who knows, maybe these
boxes have been upgraded, or the company now makes other devices that get
around this problem, or the original poster was misled, etc etc

I'm not sure whether it was recorded from the board in the XM studio itself,
or from the broadcast over the satellite, but there is an excellent quality
acoustic performance/interview show with Yes circulating. George Taylor
Morris does the interview, and they play a few tunes, as well as do a
"workshop"...showing how they developed the song Awaken. Very good stuff!

Fish,
From your previous posts I can tell that you and I have similar
tastes in music (No pun intended).
You ask -why do they do this to us!?
I don't know and that is a valid question (for someone).
It's probably all about marketing and/or the fact that some corporate
goofball does not think that there's anyone in the states that would
be interested. Or there are some copyright issues that are being evaded.
Or any number of reasons that boil down to money and greed.
However, it seems as though your request MAY be a bit problematic, doesn't
it?
Are you are requesting that someone on the list trade an official release w/
you?
Wouldn't this mean that person would burn a copy of their official release
to trade w/ you?
Do you see any problem w/ this??
Maybe, there's digital copies of these performances in the trading network.
Is that what you are looking for....?
Just trying to save you and anyone else out there from any potential
trouble.
Be careful with wording posts....
Peace,
D-Rider
DEAR FISH-
you had better be careful brother! the next time you are at a festival you
could be swarmed by an angry bunch of wookies.
Do you want the wookies to yell at you in public or even worse, pounce on
you with passive aggressiveness rhetorical questions?
Do you understand the implications of asking for an official release in the
presence of the recently created TP? (trading police) And havent you
received your newsletter?
Don't you understand that it would be much more acceptable to simply ask
your parents for the money to buy the official release from Europe as
opposed to getting an illegal copy of a poorly marketed concert from thirty
freaking years ago from some guys that have one foot in the grave? You could
be taking food out of a record executives mouth for cripes sake!
I am just trying to save you from the potential troubles that exist in the
ever changing world Utopic "bootlegging" so take heed my friend.
keep your boots on. the shit gets deep. by the way the dylans are turning
out nicely and i'll send em down. ive also got a sweet Windows 95 that i am
willing to part with if you get a copy of this stoneage show. dont tell
anyone though, they could shake their head around and start pounding on the
keyboard.
ya know, did any of us even think twice about making cassettes of our
albums? i'll bet this dudes got a vhs copy of starwars and the empire
strikes back that he's not disclosing to us.

Optical splitters work great. Allows for 2 digital outputs
off one standard toslink output. Inexpensive and easy.
Best if used with short run cables.

Done this many times, but not with a special cable. I use a digital
converter box (runs about $100.00 if memory serves me correctly). Allows
you to go in with either an optical or coax cable and go out with one or

I have a pair of GDTS taper's (Sect 5 row Q). Due to a pretty nasty chest &
head cold, Jill and/or I will likely not go. (Which is a bummer as this was
the only show on the tour that we are able to attend.) So one or both of
our tickets may be for sale and preference would go to someone who would be
able to meet me around Rock Center during the day tomorrow, pay face value
and who has a decent recording rig. Let me know via private email if you
want to be on deck, where/when we could meet and a bit about your recording
rig. I will get back to you by tomorrow afternoon.
