Hey all-
I have been on the taping scene for a while now and i'd like to sell some
stuff:
1. Tascam DA-30, new heads were installed in 1999 and It has less than 200
hrs on new heads. Didn't use it much after I got it back because I bought a
Sony home unit. Asking $600
2. Tascam CD-RW700. About 1 year old I am dissapointed im the performance
of this unit. Asking $300
3. Advent Legacy II floor speakers. These 40w/200w max 2 way speakers
reproduce live sound very well and they are about 10 yrs old. I've replaced
the tweeters once because my EQ was set wrong and popped them. The covers
have some wear. Asking $100 pr.
Thats it for right now. Thanks for the bandwidth. Email me at:

Great deal on the custom Oade brothers cable. Check
it out at:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1941993320
If the link above doesn't work, use the item #
1941993320, or just search on "Oade", and I believe it
will be the only thing that pops up.

Sonic Studios DSM Stereo Microphone. I have made some
great tapes with these mics but really have too many
sets of mics and need some cash. $100 plus shipping
takes them. Additional information is available at

Thanks to those who provided input re: whether bit-perfect transfers are
possible via USB. Based on certain info I received, I contacted Ego-Sys,
and received the following "simple but it says it" response. Based on this,
I returned the U24 I was trying out.

The USB interface is not perfect. I would not suggest using a USB device if
you want a perfect transfer from your DAT.

Subject: is U24 bit perfect?
I am curious as to whether the U24 is capable of bit-perfect digital
transfers from DAT to hard drive. On one hand, I’ve seen an old email from
one of your technicians indicating that your previous unit, the U2A, was not
capable of doing this. I’ve also seen literature indicating that it is not
possible to reliably get bit-perfect transfers when using any USB device
because of certain resampling done in Windows. Can you shed any light on
this?
On the other hand, on page 4 of the U24 manual, it states that no resampling
is done *by the U24* of prerecorded digital signal. So, if I have a 44.1kHz
signal recorded on a DAT tape that I transfer to my hard drive thru the
s/pdif in on the U24, and then to the hard drive via USB, should I expect
the .wav file to be a bit-perfect copy of what is on the DAT, or does the
use of USB automatically render the .wav not bit perfect?
I intend to use the U24 with both Windows 98SE and Windows XP pro, so if the
answer is different for each OS, I’d appreciate learning which is better and
why.
Thank you,
Daniel E. Estrin, NYC
