Anyone happen to tape the WLIR holiday show @ vanderbilt 12-21 (someone,
Spiraling, and TMBG)? I didn't survive the pat down at the door so had to
use my backup rig, the left mic decided to cut out most of the night so I
have a lovely mono recording of TMBG. Much to trade. TIA.

I received some tapes recorded with "pmb mics (very nice german made)" to
quote my source. I tried to find out more about these using google but the
only hits seemed to be on microphones for recording conversations in
conference rooms and the sound is too good for that.
Anyone know anything about these? The abbreviation might not be correct as
well so if you have any pointers to anything that's a close match that would
be helpful.
Thanks

Also check out the Memorex 'Black' CD-Rs... reminiscent of a Play Station
disc, and they give those to 7 year olds to toss around... very sturdy and
scratch
resistant, in other words. Gold substrate under a heavy paint layer on the
face
and a dark purple (aka 'black') on the play surface that's transparent to
the read/write
laser.
They cost a bit more per each ($20 for a 50 ct. spindle) but after some
deliberate weather
testing and some experiments with sandpaper I'd say they're archive ready.
(I made six copies of a disc, then left them all face up in the sun for
three months on the porch
rail... checked 'em at 2 week intervals & found very few errors and no
delamination of the disc
layers...)

even tho this is DAT-heads and not cd recording..... :)
thats a litle high for CD's, so at least make sure they are TY (Taiyo
Yuden) memorex blanks. you can tell that by the type of spindle they are
on. the TYs have a little disc on the top of the spindle that screws on.
aboiut half oif the memorex blanks sold are TY's.
for my DAT-<cdr transfers i use Fujis cause they are all TY and only 4.99
for 100pk after rebate at bestbuy

You are paying about $4 too much-- TYs from Tape Warehouse in Atlanta
run about 38 cents ea in spindles of 100. Toss in a jewel case, label
(one of their Neato clones), and tray card and you are up to about $1 total.

I just wanted to add my .02 on this. I have bought at least 1500 of the
Fuji Film 80 minute discs between Best Buy and Office Depot sales, and
never bought any Memorex media. I have recieved some Memorex that was
trash. If you buy Fuji Film, all the media in the blue shrink wrapped
packaging has always been manufactured by TY for several years. I
believe I have recieved one or 2 discs of Fuji Film media that wasn't TY
manufactured. Why mess with the maybe (Memorex) when there is an
absolute choice (Fuji)? Fuji is definitely made by TY, is Memorex, or
is it made by Ritek? Also, on the Fuji Film media, you can get one
rebate per year. I got mine a long time ago. Even so, the last time I
bught Fuji Film media on sale, it was about $55 for 200 pieces, 4 50
pack spindles, and I am content with that price, since it was the best
price I could get at the time.

Is there anyone else out there making DVD-Audio discs (with or without MLP
encoding) at 24bit/96khz of live music? I have been making a few lately and
was wanting to possibly trade some DVD-Audio discs and get some opinions on
what software other people were using.

I bought some Fujis a couple months ago in the 50 pack with Best Buy
rebate. A few weeks later they had the 100 pack with rebate so I called
Fuji and they told me it's a different offer, so I could get another
rebate. We'll see if they deliver, but I keep careful rebate records and
follow up closely.

Ok, folks I need a little help here. I realize that
this is a DAT forum, but am sure someone out there can
help me. This past Friday night I whent and recorded
a friend's band at the Galaxy Club. Equipment used
was a Sony MZN1 Minidisc Recorder with a set of Cores
Sound Binaural mic's with the battery box and bass
roll off. The recording came out great. The next day
I transfered the recording to my pc in analogue. I
captured the file using Soundforge 6.0 and saved it as
a 44.1, 16 bit wav file. My only problem is that I
can't figure out how to burn it to CD. I tried Nero
5.9.1, CDRwin, MusicMatch Jukebox, and a few others
without any success. I keep getting an error that
says "audio not in compatible CD format, 44.1 16 bit
stereo." But I know that the file is for a fact a
44.1, 16 bit stereo wav file. So I tried to convert
the wav into a .cda file or a pcm wav file by using
various programs such as Cooledit, Soundforge, Easy
CDDA Converter, etc.., And was unable to convert the
wav file at all. So now Im stuck with a wav file that
I can only burn as a data cd. Could someone out there
give me any suggestions? How do you guys tranfer your
dat recordings to pc and then burn them? I guess that
I could convert the wav to an MP3 and then burn it,
but I really do not want to have to do this, since MD
already uses a lossy compression to record the audio
to the minidisc, then by turning it into an MP3 file I
would be losing even more bits than before. Any help
would be greatly appreciated.

as a general rule: made in japan or u.s. = good. made in taiwan = shit. my favorites
are made in the u.s. (i believe), they are apogee golds. although over $2.50 a disc, they
are better than ty, mitsui etc etc.

BP-P20 directly from TEAC (about 190 $ !), but they can't provide me the
user manual. if
anyone got it, would it be possible to get a copy or a scanned version ? at
least, i need to know how long does the battery charge ...
is there other batteries usable for DA-P20 ?
