There were about 6 or 8 different colors in the spindle and CDRIdentifier said they were mfg. by Tayio Yuden.

From: "Digital Ambience" <digitalambience@hotmail.com> Subject: Re: Taiyo Yuden Date: Tue, 24 Dec 2002 13:46:48 -0500 The Taiyo Yuden made discs have a 70 year life and among the lowest errors of any disc on the planet. The Fuji discs are a no-brainer when you consider the cost. Best option would still be the Mitsui discs with the 100+ year life, low errors, AND universal compatability with every audio cd player due to it's unique dye properties. Mitsui's are the only disc that play and track perfectly(individual tracks can be selected) on every cd player. They're the only current data brand that tracks perfectly on my cd player. The first generation TDK's and Verbatim's also tracked perfectly but the current crop don't. Fuji, Verbtaim , TDK(real TDK's) all failed the universal compatability test although the TDK Audio discs did track perfectly. Mitsui also made some claims in their literature about having a better sound than other brands. It could be related to the fact they have better reflectivity specs and better tracking. From: Keith Bode <t.tunakebo@verizon.net> Subject: Memorex, Imation, Ritek, CMC, Fuji and TY media Date: Tue, 24 Dec 2002 10:52:31 -0800 As the individual's who wrote the posts below ask the same question on a couple of similar topics, that question being WHY, I can only offer this as an answer, and it really is all I know, or feel I need to know. I don't know why. I don't even know anyone who has really even expressd an answer to why. I also feel from my own experiences, and from the anecdotal experiences I have read, why doesn't matter to me. What matters to me is the concistency of the expressed anecdotal experiences of others, combined with my experiences is Memorex, Imation, all media made by CMC Magnetics and Ritek is a nightmare. Fuji Film 80 minute discs in the blue shrink wrap is very reliable, and has worked well for myself, and many, many others on multiple mailing lists. I have also had great success with unbranded TY media. Since I have had great success, as have many others with the TY manufactured media, I don't have a problem that needs fixing. If all the sudden TY and Fuji did something like TDK did several years ago when they stopped manufacturing their own, or had someone manufacture for them, the media with a dark blue recording surface many of us used. I highly doubt I would be looking at brands of media that are manufactured by 3 different manufacturers, and I have had trouble with their media before. This planet, this universe, is filled with many, many unanswered questions. The questin of why does this manufacturers media have a bad reputation, and this companies have a good reputation are questions I personally dn't need to know. What I feel I do need to know when I walk into Best Buy is buy Fuji Film media when it's on sale, don't buy Memorex media because of personal and anecdotal experiences. Perhaps there is an Audio, or Chemical Engineer on the list who can answer these why questions. From: "Digital Ambience" <digitalambience@hotmail.com> Subject: Re: Taiyo Yuden Date: Tue, 24 Dec 2002 13:59:01 -0500 Forgot to mention that Ritek, CMC Magnetics and other inferior quality media have a substantially lower life span than Mitsui/TY. Their dye is less stable and prone to unreadable errors as early as a few years into their life. I once received one brand that had audio becoming static-like halfway through the disc within days after the receving them when they originally played fine. Despite all the negativity surrounding Ritek, they signed a major deal to manufacture the DVD discs for some major studio DVD releases in europe. >From: Christopher D Gacek <gace0003@umn.edu> >Subject: Taiyo Yuden >Date: Mon, 23 Dec 2002 23:03:52 CST > >Can someone please explain WHY the Taiyo Tuden discs are better than the >others? > >Much Appreciation, >Chris > _________________________________________________________________ MSN 8 limited-time offer: Join now and get 3 months FREE*. http://join.msn.com/?page=dept/dialup&xAPID=42&PS=47575&PI=7324&DI=7474&SU= http://www.hotmail.msn.com/cgi-bin/getmsg&HL=1216hotmailtaglines_newmsn8ishere_3mf
