From: "Dan Babcock" <DBABCOCK2@wi.rr.com> Subject: cdr media Date: Wed, 25 Dec 2002 10:13:00 -0600 Thought I'd throw in my 2 cents, MITSUI discs work the best in my experience and are well worth 60 cents apiece if you want to keep what you burn for a long time. They are also the only discs that always play in my nearly 20 year old cd player. http://www.cascademedia.net/ is a great place to get them. they also have sony dds dats for 2.25 a piece. I dont work for them, just very happy with their prices and service.
From: Keith Bode <t.tunakebo@verizon.net> Subject: Re: TY and Mitsui Date: Wed, 25 Dec 2002 08:35:57 -0800 I wanted to add to the post qoted below, my .02. Using all Plextor SCSI burners, my Seat of the Pants, undocumented anecdotal experience is I have more failures in burning with Mitsui Media than I have had with TY media. I have also seen pssts from others, stating the same experience. On the other hand, I have read posts from people who have had problems like they can't burn TY media on their pro standalone. Tough call to clearly crown a winner. Keith "The Taiyo Yuden made discs have a 70 year life and among the lowest errors of any disc on the planet. The Fuji discs are a no-brainer when you consider the cost. Best option would still be the Mitsui discs with the 100+ year life, low errors, AND universal compatability with every audio cd player due to it's unique dye properties. Mitsui's are the only disc that play and track perfectly(individual tracks can be selected) on every cd player. They're the only current data brand that tracks perfectly on my cd player. The first generation TDK's and Verbatim's also tracked perfectly but the current crop don't. Fuji, Verbtaim , TDK(real TDK's) all failed the universal compatability test although the TDK Audio discs did track perfectly. Mitsui also made some claims in their literature about having a better sound than other brands. It could be related to the fact they have better reflectivity specs and better tracking."

From: kindtaper@aol.com Subject: Phish and WSP dat clearance Date: Wed, 25 Dec 2002 13:22:55 -0500 Hello, I have about 165 or so Phish and WSP DATs that I have amassed over the years that I never listen to. There are a few other bands mixed in like Moe and MMW, but it's mostly Phish and WSP. They are from all years 86-99, with most of the Phish being mid/early 90's shows that aren't highly circulated. Some are aoundboard and some are audience, but they all sound good. Some of the early WSP shows are direct from the master tapes>DAT. I am trying to keep only shows in my collection that I taped/attended, and I feel certain there is a newbie out there to the DAT world that would listen to everyone of these. So, I'd like to sell them for much less than the cost of a new tape. I am asking for $250 for the lot, and that's like $1.50 a tape, for mostly audio grade Sony/HHB dats with some DDS mixed in. If you're interested, please contact me. I don't have a list, but I'd be happy to call you and go over them on the phone. And please don't give me any crap about "selling the music". I am just recovering a fraction of the costs it required to even obtain the tapes, and that doesn't include postage. Thanks, Wes Kindtaper@aol.com

From: sec1968@ezl.com Subject: toad tour dates Date: Wed, 25 Dec 2002 17:24:31 -0600 Hi all, again. Since my test post worked, i'll go this route: Toad The Wet Sprocket has announced a winter tour for Feb. & Mar. 2003. The dates can be found on: www.toadthewetsprocket.com. I'll be hitting 4 of the midwest dates (St. Louis, Detroit, Cinci & Indy), and as they openly allow audio recording, taking my dat with me. If anyone else happens to catch any of the other shows, please drop me a line, as i'll be up for trading. From: <rbbert@earthlink.net> Subject: Mitsui CDR's Reply-To: rbbert@earthlink.net Date: Wed, 25 Dec 2002 16:57:49 -0800 I have tried several fairly new CD players which do not play my Mitsui's (or TY's, for that matter) well (NAD and Sony). Interestingly, in my (limited) experience, the newer, cheap TDKs (from Costco) play perfectly in every CD player I've tried.

Same here. I've moved strictly to Fujis for trading and archiving, for this reason (despite the fact that I archive as SHN so I don't have to EAC). It makes me a little nervous using Mitsuis. YMMV and others use them with great success of course. -- Mark Mayhle mark@mayhle.com
