All your words wreak of justification for actions that IM(and MANY others)HO suck. You won't sway anyone's opinion just as I won't sway your's. Where is it you will draw the line? Perhaps when you can find a justification for selling your recordings you will share that with us too? Do what you want but I for one would ask that you please don't come to DAT Heads trying to justify your actions. Last I checked this list is for DAT related discussion not the Keith Bode opinion column. Peace, Sean ------------------------------ From: Subject: re: ebay tickets and Keith's comments Reply-To: kmstraker@mindspring.com Date: Fri, 27 Dec 2002 11:44:24 -0500 Yep, welcome to America, I guess....where morality is ruled by profitability. If you can make a buck off of it, you can find a way to justify it. It's a pretty lame mentality, but hey..everyone else does it. I don't mind paying a little extra, but 1000.00 for two tickets (lots on ebay) is ridiculous.(not saying this is you, just an example from ebay) I know you'll say, "not so crazy to the people who bought them". Let em go ahead and enjoy the show. I'll go another day. I'll go see another of the many great bands that will be out on NYE. Phish will continue to tour through the summer and fall. After all the dumbasses get out of the way I'll have plenty of time to catch as many shows as I can afford. I'm not some sappy hippy idealist, but if you're selling your tickets for more than you paid, I think it's wrong. Do unto others...... It's not a business transaction. Just be decent and hook a fellow music lover up with a deal. I know that this was all a waste of time. In the end, you make too much money for this kind of reasoning to have any effect whatsoever. Econ question: if phish just went ahead and charged 500.00 a piece for NYE tickets how many do youthink they would sell? How high could they raise the price before playing live is no longer economically viable? If the tickets cost 500 each, what kind of people do you think will be at the show? Will these people be fun to play to? If one train leaves Philly going 65MPH at 6:00 AM, and another leaves NYC at 12:00...... ------------------------------ From: DannyThweatt@webtv.net (Danny Thweatt) Subject: Verve shows? Date: Fri, 27 Dec 2002 11:16:28 -0600 (CST) Hello DAT folk. Hope everyone had a nice holiday with a minimum of family tension. :) I'm looking for anyone with DAT CLONE sourced, or known early generation Verve material, preferrably with source info. Any era is fine. I'm trying to upgrade any show of mine that I can. My list is at: http://www.sanctifiedpress.com/trade.html Also looking for 2002 Richard Ashcroft shows. Thanks, Danny ------------------------------ From: "Drew Caruso" Subject: Springsteen Date: Fri, 27 Dec 2002 12:55:17 -0500 I am looking for any current Springsteen or even some older RARE Springsteen I don't have. I have a clone of the 12/17/02 Indy show (Schoeps MK4vs) to offer (DAT only right now please). Email me to work out a trade. Thanks Drew www.geocities.com/drewcatc ------------------------------ From: Benjamin Cho Subject: Mitsui/TY media, CDR brands Date: Fri, 27 Dec 2002 10:04:36 -0800 (PST) Just wanted to add my 2 cents on this. I burn my 24 bit masters as compressed data on TY media (look for the screw-top nut spindles at stores). I would highly DISCOURAGE the use of Mitsui discs, I have seen a HUGE percentage of these discs have flaking problems. I was recently going through the CD collection of a friend who had burned a good number of discs on Mitsui silvers (b/c she heard Mitsui was the "best".) I would say at LEAST 10% of the burned discs, all under 1 year old, had flaked. Despite their quality dye, they seem to have SERIOUS quality control problems with their top layer. I don't know if it was a bad batch or what, just my personal observations here... Take care, Ben PS: Regarding imations, I have a bunch from 98' with that real dark blue dye, some players don't like them (not reflective enough) but haven't seen even one flaking problem yet! Never had a problem with Imation, burned through probably 500 or so since buying those first ones. __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Mail Plus - Powerful. Most Sony media is made in Taiwan. All the media that has been made by TY as the opaque or white or frosted, or whatever you want to call it, center. In my experience if it doesn't av the opaque center, it's not made by TY. Several years ago, Sony had all the media they sell, have the manufacturers of the media put the ATIP code on the media say it is manufactured by Sony. Sony does not manufacture CD-R or RW media. Sony even had a battle with other companies about releasing the ATIP code, so programs like Feurio and CDR-ID could identify their media. Prior to that, I was buying some very expensive media that was Sony branded. CDR-ID said the media was made by Ricoh in Taiwan. I got most of it back, and replaced the discs. I haven't bought a piece of Sony media since. About the same time, proably 4 r 5 years ago, I bought a spindle of Imation media. Most of what I burned wouldn't play in ther devices. I pitched half the spindle in the trash, around 1998 fr thse wo would grovel for it, and have bought no Imatin media since. Originally, when the CD-R format was developed, 3 companies wrked together t develop the format, the burners and the media. Sony, TY and Phillips. At first, lke 1996 and 1997, perhaps all Sony media was made by TY. Not any more. Keith ------------------------------ From: ISTEIN2@aol.com Subject: Re: eBay tickets Date: Fri, 27 Dec 2002 13:48:05 EST Ticket Scalping is Ticket Scalping is Ticket Scalping! The prior post made metion to the fact that it's simple economics, and no one is hurt. That's like the guy who got caught cheating on his wife who used the excuse that he used protection so that no one would be hurt! I don't think his wife would buy that type of logic (unless he happened to be President Clinton a few years ago). Here's the bottom line: Ticket scalping is against the law in New York State! Anyone who delivers a ticket for more than a few dollars above face in New York State for an event in New York State is breaking the law. Bands like Phish do the best they can to get these tickets into the hands of real tapers. Anyone who willingly sells a taper ticket above face value (and a few dollars service charge) is a lowlife. To me they might as well be selling recordings of shows! It's all the same to me. ------------------------------ From: Eduardo Malvido Subject: Paul McCartney taping on ebay STOP THIS!
