I have been using fine tip and extra fine tip Sharpies to mark CD's for
years. I try to write in the center, but if I want more information
than that n the CD-R, I write all ver the non-recording side. I have
seen other posts on this list wh d the same thing, and have not
experienced an problems, nor have I. I thing the sharpies are about
1/3rd the price f the pens you are describing, or less in a package of
10, at ffice Dept, Staples, etc.

particular micrphone almost every time I looked at Sennheiser
micrphones. I don't think they are usually tht cheap, but they are
there.

I have a bunch of Sony DG90P DDS2 tapes, I bought from Masterpiece AV.
Accoring to one of the partner's there, that is the best selling tape
they carry. Other people n this list, and BUDD suggested the same
tape. I don't know how the TDK tapes compare to te Sony tapes. Now tat
you got them, try them, sell them or dump them. I'd try them, but others
may have different opinions.

selling a 40x CD-RW. Now for my next post. As it seems Most DAT-Heds
convert their DAT's to CD, so I don't think this is off topic.

As Plextor has jumped in the arena of high speed burning using a SCSI
bus, with a 40x CD-RW, hopefully they will maintain the Plextr quality
we are used to.
As they have done so, I had stocked up on some brand new Ultraplex40 max
drives, some Adaptec 2940 U SCSI cards, and some 3 connector SCSI
cables. Now maybe a good time to sell a drive or 2, and some cards as I
have 6 total.
So, if anyone's interested in being set up for high speed SCSI burning,
I'll sell 2 of the sets of 3 items. I will also set the SCSI ID on the
Ultraplex to 6, and put the term jumper on the Ultraplex. You can put
the burner on the middle connector of the cable, and it should be fine.
I will include printed instructions.
Normal prices for tese items are: Ultraplex 40 max, 50 pin OEM, retail
about $90. The SCSI cable is $7 to $10, and the Adaptec card used to
sell for over $150. It's been discontinued. The card that is one model
lower in the line, retails fr abut $75-$90, boxed.
Keith
I will sell all 3 pieces for $125 plus shipping. I will set it up as
descriped. Priority mail fr this set should be about $8, and get the
set to you in aboout 3 or 4 days.

small package. It has the line stage upgrade and the coax mod(replaces 7 pin).
Total was 750.00 new. I'd like 700.00 and i'll pay shipping. Purchased in the
spring of last year and upgraded by doug oade. I"ll include the case which
holds the sbm1 and a sony portable dat, the original box, and the ecocharge
cable.

I have recorded audio-range scientific data on DAT tapes using Sony
TCD-D8 recorders. The tapes have an auxiliary absolute date/time track
and that information can be displayed on playback.
What equipment is needed to make an exact tape duplicate - including the
timing information - if that is possible at all?
Thanks!

If you get the Platinum edition of the ADK, with the preamp upgrades, you can
use it without a pre in front of it with no problem. I have a pair of MBHOs,
cardioid and sub-card capsules, and Audio Magic Excalibur cables, and haven't
used a pre in front of my ADK, but have made some really sweet tapes over the
last few years. Just make sure you get the right ADK.

Subject: Help Please: Recording to CD Ideas...
Date: Sun, 5 Jan 2003 23:02:03 EST
Hello!! I've been asked to set up a "simple" recording rig for my religious
organization and I need some help. Basically, the gentleman I'm helping
wants to record his voice onto CD-R and hand these discs out regularly to the
congregation. He currently records using a cassette deck- and when he makes
an error, he backs the tape up a bit, hits "REC" and continues on singing
till he's done. What would you guys suggest for a new setup?
I was thinking of buying him a stand-alone CD recorder- such as the Marantz
CDR-500, a lavolier microphone such as a Sony ECM-77B and then some adapting
device so the mic will plug into the Marantz to BOTH channels (any
suggestions there?). Then his workflow would be: use CD-RW's to record his
voice, finalize that disc and pop it into the player side and pick the tracks
he wants to copy over to a CD-R. Make sense?
How about setting him up with a computer? Knowing he is not spectacularly
savvy, would it be silly to set him up with a CPU/sound card/ software? I
know he would have more control over his content this way for fixing his
mistakes but the concern here is two-fold; a) too complicated b) too
time-consuming. But then again; I could get him an Apple iBook, and a
USB-type adaptor for his mic and software.
Keep in mind; it's one voice we're talking about here and we're not after
superb fidelity. Cost is an issue as is complexity.
Any thoughts and suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Now back to the EBay ethics discussion...

hey now,
i've got 2 d8's and a d7 that i need to sell. these are used, fairly much,
and all are in working order. the 2 d8's have been cleaned and aligned
within the last 6 months, and were given a clean bill of health by paul
plotnick.
each d8 comes with the option to buy a 7 pin end of line cable.
the d7 hasn't been cleaned in awhile, and needs it.
last used it worked like a charm though.
i'd like 300 for each d8 (350 with cable).
i'd like 250$ for the d7.
can sell any or all....no pairing required :)

Subject: mystery grab bag b&p offer
Date: Mon, 6 Jan 2003 09:23:51 -0800 (PST)
hi --
this is a little unconventional, i'll admit at the
outset.
i've got a stack of 50 CDrs that i'd like to find a
home for. many of them are in .shn or .flac format,
many are audio, but all of them are high quality that
anyone would do well to add to their collection. i'm
purging myself of the audio disks because i've
converted them to .shn for my permanent archive, and
i'm purging myself of the .shn disks because i've
re-encoded them, in most cases because they were
encoded without seektables the first time around which
is a major pet peeve of mine. SO... they're yours, if
you want them.
the catch? i'm not listing the contents. it'd take
me a good 90 minutes or more to properly note what's
in the batch, and i don't have that kind of free time.
So let's just call it a Mystery Grab Bag! it's a
pretty interesting mix of jazz, rock, alt-rock, and
the like. no jambands! it's all good stuff!
all i want is someone to send me a new spindle of TDK
Taiyo Yuden 80 minute disks + return postage and the
Mystery Grab Bag is yours! i'm also interested in
sealing this deal ASAP, so we've got to get this
underway within 24 hours. all you've really got to do
is order a spindle from bestbuy, staples, wherever,
ship it to me, then paypal me money to ship the Grab
Bag back to you, so there's no reason why someone
interested in this can't make it happen quickly.
ready, set, go,
the first recipient who promises to get his end of the
deal underway quickly wins!
cheers, happy new year y'all
peter

Subject: Nomad & Time code
Date: Mon, 6 Jan 2003 10:37:53 -0800
there seems to be some misunderstanding here. No DAT decks other than very
high-end decks such as the stella dat or some somy models intended for film
production actually use 'time code'.
However, when you are cloning a digital stream (dat>dat, dat>nomad,
dat>soundcard, whatever), any decent non-resampling unit will lock as a
slave onto the host clock of the unit feeding it the signal. Thus the
*sample rate* of a clone is exact. if you went analog into the recording
unit, it would reclock the data internally, and there would be a slight
variation in the sample rate (say 44.101 vs 44.105 kHz for example). That is
why it is difficult to mix two independent digital sources, as no two clocks
were alike, and drift occurs, causing echo, etc. But as long as you are
cloning a recording with non-resampling equipment, the sample rate will be
*exactly* matched to whatever the original a>d that clocked it was.
