I get it, only being a lock-step is acceptable. Not being indoctrinated
is grounds for revocation of first ammendment rights, yet being
indoctrinated removes the need for first ammendment rights.

Spectacular for the price -- quiet, even, not harsh at all. I record mostly
acoustic/classical, so I don't know how they are for amplified concerts.
They're very hot, so the preamps can go down and the 10dB attenuators can
go on!

NRBQ is about as anti-taping as you can get. We have a venue here in Rhode
Island, Chan's, where the owner video and audio records every show that
happens there. Except NRBQ that is...they won't even let him do it. They are
also the only band that he has to put "no taping allowed" signs on the
outside door.
So if you want 'em, stealth is the only way. And as someone on the last
digest so eloquently put it, please keep any anti-stealthing morality jive
posts/emails to yourselves. We've read it all before.

Ok, here I will exercise my first amendment rights.
Stop whining. There are a lot of people who seem to contribute to
DAT-heads, but there seem to be a few names who like to have diss
other folks and then whine when others disagree with them. (Keith
does contribute and usually its the response to such people that
is even more unbalanced, but I do see this post as whiny.)
I have gone to great lengths to allow open discussion on DAT-heads
over the years, to not restrict what people can trade... not to
moderate. And I resist requests to "throw this guy off the list."
If you have an opinion state it and be done. However, your message
does not say anything about stealth taping -- if you had an opinion
and stated it, I would have supported that. If you had stuck to
it to the death, countering everyone with a different opinion, I
would tell you to accept that others differ in opinion. Having
an opinion is fine and using your right to express it is fine
also, but there is an obligation in that case to understand
someone else will have their own opinion and maybe different
from yours.
The particular topic referenced has been "fought to the death"
before and it is reasonable to ask people to hold their opinion.
But its also reasonable to still express yours... and we'll say
"been there, done that, can we move on."

considering upgrading my mics. I am currently using OKM II Rock Studios
(Soundman). They work nice, but are very fragile and the A3-adapter
(batterybox) is not very stable either. So, looking around for other stealth
mics, preferrably Cardiods. Any suggestions?

that page specifically tests how a drive reacts to an extreme error example,
not really indicative of what you're going to encounter day in/day out in
your usage
they even say this:
"At the moment there are no drives which can pass the test with a perfect
score. In fact the test is so difficult that most drives get a 0.0 score."

which does not make it very attractive!!

i still think that plextors are among the best drives $ can buy for audio
purposes, and they make both IDE and SCSI drives (phasing out their SCSI

You're right about the beating to death stealthing. IMO, you're wrong
to tell people not to address an artists rights moral issue you bring
up. I didn't even mention anything to do with your activity. As you
are, I'm sick of discussing it. In the future, I would, and I'm sure
other would also, prefer personal attacks be kept off list. I am quite
adept and handling anger, profanity, and degrdation in private e-mails.

It's time for me to make some headway into laptop recording so my trusty old
D3 is on the block. It's a good deck, and I do mean trusty.
I bought it from a production company here in richmond in June'01 that
estimated about 100 hours of use at the most. I sent it to pro-dig in the
fall of that year for a transport lube/inspection. got good feedback on the
condition of the heads and internal mechanisms. Since then it has seen about
30-40 shows.

I have my Sony Vaio up on ebay right now, it is set up for recording and
will be sold like that, all of the VAIO bells and extra whistles have been
taken off of it, the drive has been partitioned for recording with 9 gigs
open on the recording partition, it has windows 2000 on it, wavelab 4.0 and
soundforge 6.0, I used it for all of the NYE Phish run and it was great,
