From: Neal Copperman <neal@swcp.com> Subject: Ryman Auditorium Date: Sun, 19 Jan 2003 23:02:20 -0700 Anyone have any info on what it's like to tape in Nashville's Ryman Auditorium? I thought, as the former home of the Grand Ole Opry, that it might be tougher to get gear in then other places but was curious what sort of experiences people have had. Thanks, neal
From: "Felix Lopez de Maturana" <fmaturana@euskalnet.net> Subject: Nomad Jukebox Date: Mon, 20 Jan 2003 15:20:26 +0100 In last weeks someone asked about using Nomad Jukebox as recording device. I've started doing it as a stealth recorder with a pair of Core Sound High End binaural micros with very good results. Just you need last firmware 1.30.08p and get a right micro preamp in the Nomad. Output is at the level of a Sony TCD-D100 in my opinion. I'm taping opera performances and using it in a local broadcasting Radio. Kind regards Felix

From: DATJAMS@aol.com Subject: Fixing Bass Farting? Date: Mon, 20 Jan 2003 10:35:30 EST Hey all. I'm using an AT 822 straight into a Denon DTR 80P, and everything else is cool, but the bass is oversaturated. I'm using the bass roll off switch on the mike, and using the -20dB setting on the deck. 2 Questions: Should I change my taping technique? How to fix what I've got? I have Sound Forge XP 4.0 and the demo of Cool Edit Pro. Thanks in advance.
From: "Slipkid" <slipkid@voicenet.com> Subject: re: plextors (phasing out scsi products) Reply-To: "Slipkid" <slipkid@voicenet.com> Date: Mon, 20 Jan 2003 12:38:17 -0500 ethan wrote: > >actually, plextor has just released 40 speed scsi burners ;) > one of the CD-R forums i'm on (can't remember which one), had a discussion thread on this, the talk being that plextor either already stopped making new SCSI burner models, or were going to be shortly (due to more $$ to be made in the ATAPI/IDE world which they want to concentrate on), & that the new SCSI writers they were selling were actually made by another company, then "rebadged" & sold as plextors, or not using all plextor parts, or whatever etc i hope it is not true, but unfortunately in the world of PC products (or practically anything these days), it is hard to know what you're really getting, who makes what :-( i just looked around the 'net to try to find some evidence/discussion of plextor not making SCSI models anymore, but i couldn't find anything (good news? or just lack of evidence of the bad news, i dunno) i did find this one article that at least does lend credence to plextor not making *all* of their drives; this one refers to a USB model http://www.cdfreaks.com/document.php3?Doc=100&Page=12 >>>> Before we continue with our final words we would first like to point out that the Plextor PX-S2410TU drive we reviewed was based on the TEAC CD-W224E drive. When we opened up the Plextor drive we could see the CD-W224E model number printed on the recorder label. Plextor using other manufacturer's laser units for their slim line recorders is no surprise since we saw the same thing with the other slim line Plextor recorder, the PX-208TU drive. This explains some of the un-like Plextor performance we saw during our review. <<<< i still say that plextor makes the best readers & writers for audio work, but i guess you really need to do your homework b4 buying anything!! - jon -
From: Colin Liston <cliston@cs.utk.edu> Subject: attenuators? where to buy? Date: Mon, 20 Jan 2003 12:54:25 -0500 (EST) Does anyone know where I can buy a set of XLR attenuators? thanks colin
From: "zach" <zach@funkytulip.com> Subject: FS: Tascam DA-P1 Date: Mon, 20 Jan 2003 12:17:36 -0700 If you see this more than once I apologize. The unit was bought new in June of 1999. It has been meticulously maintained. It went into Pro-Digital last Jan. for a full head cleaning, alignment, lube and tune up. It has seen 2 shows since then. The unit has the usual worn paint on the corners. I have original box, battery, charger (wires have been cut and re-soldered) and documentation along with an Eco-Charge 6v battery with power cord (no Eco-Charge charger though). The deck was used as primarily a field recording deck. It wasn't a cloning workhorse. I used cleaning tape every 30-40hrs of use. I would estimate it has @ 300-400 hrs. on it however it has had full "tune up" done, with only 5hrs of recording since then. I'm selling because I tired of carrying around lots of weight (using my D8 now), and haven't taped anything in months because of Grad. School. I'm asking $950. I can provide digital photos to serious inquiries. Peace, Zach Andersson

Also, are they a must-have vs. the standard built-in pre-amp I have been using, or just a slight upgrade? <snip> There are numerous options available for Pre-amps and they will definately give you a considerable improvement in your recordings compared to the built in pre's in almost any recording device. http://www.sonicsense.com/preamps.htm <snip> Also, who makes / sells the mic mounts that are adjustable for aiming? The ones I have only parallel to each other (0 degrees). <snip> You can find some options here: http://www.sonicsense.com/access.htm Let me know if I can help you with any specific questions.
